Do you make your bed?

Flora73 · 26/07/2025 22:43

I do, every day. It looks so untidy and I love getting into a made bed.

But I was talking to a friend earlier and she never does. So just wondered what the general consensus was.

Make your bed (at least 5 days out of 7) = You are not being unreasonable

Don’t make your bed = You are being unreasonable

Yes, and I lie in it.

ETA - sorry, couldn't resist.

YesHonestly · 26/07/2025 22:44

I make mine every day! It’s never crossed my mind not to.

NoweverytimeIgoforthemailbox · 26/07/2025 22:44

I fold the duvet back so it airs but looks neat.

BCBird · 26/07/2025 22:45

I rarely do, yet it looks so much nicer when I do.

Lyocell · 26/07/2025 22:45

I never make my bed, it I also generally struggle with picking up after myself and the house is untidy. I spend ages all the time tidying it up (and it’s not dirty) but I seem to always leave things out so whenever I walk into a room it’s messy.

it gets tidied up a short while later but it just therefore always feels a mess. Things like putting the cereal away or picking my clothes up off the floor.

Yes, I put the pillows straight, neaten the sheet and fold the duvet back to air tgw bed. I always put the duvet back before I get in it though!

Mumptynumpty · 26/07/2025 22:46

Every. Single. Day.

I do it because I deserve a nice space.

Whatareyoutalkingaboutnow · 26/07/2025 22:46

It's healthier to leave it "open" to air.

I do leave it folded back neatly if I’ve had one of those sweatier nights.

I absolutely love my bed and always makes it on a morning.

Me too! It’s a super king size and I’m single, and I have just enough room either side to have a bedside table…so totally impractical and unnecessary.

I keep contemplating buying a king size that actually fits my room, but I love my bed too much.

I always do because it takes seconds to just adjust the flat sheet, straighten the pillows and throw the duvet over again.

When I was a kid, we had sheets (non fitted that used to roll up) and god knows how many blankets, so it was a faff.

MaryQueenOfShades · 26/07/2025 22:58

I always make mine, but turn it back to air a bit first. Then the cats jump on so I wait until it's feline-free to make up properly, which could be mid-afternoon.

lilproblem · 26/07/2025 23:01

Every single day, first thing in the morning, without fail. It just makes me feel better.

cleverhatdisguise · 26/07/2025 23:04

Yes, every day. And if I've been in a rush and just pulled the bedspread over so it looks made but isn't really, I do a proper job of making it just before going to bed. I don't sleep as well in an unmade bed.

This is me to a t - glad I’m not alone - annoying isn’t it!

mumandmumber · 26/07/2025 23:07

I religiously make my bed.
My DH, who is extremely tidy & organised usually, will have a nap and leave it perfectly UNMADE afterwards ans it drives me effin’ potty! It’s literally a case of flipping the duvet corner back!

DustlandFairytaleBeginning · 26/07/2025 23:08

Not as a rule, only if other people are visiting/ coming into my room. It's healthier not to.

ShesTheAlbatross · 26/07/2025 23:11

Nah. I tell myself that it’s because it’s better to air it out, which I believe is true, but even if it wasn’t I still wouldn’t, because I can’t be arsed.
I make it when I put fresh bedding on it.

I leave mine 'open' with the duvet pulled right down for an hour while I have my coffee.
I agree that it seems to air it.

Couldn't sleep a wink in an unmade bed though.

jay55 · 26/07/2025 23:12

I don’t use a duvet this time of year just a top sheet. I don’t make the bed with it.

mrsfollowill · 26/07/2025 23:14

Have to make my bed in the morning can't stand it all rumpled. Pull bottom sheet tight, plump pillows up and straighten duvet but fold it back neatly to air. Window open most of the time. Takes 30 seconds.

abracadabra1980 · 26/07/2025 23:15

@Lyocell I have just 'trained' myself out of this by becoming aware that I make constant 'piles' of things, in every room - to do later/remind me to do them as they are within my line of sight. Reality is they just mount up and up and it's so much easier to tell yourself 'don't make another pile' as you go about your day. The other one I tell myself daily is 'stop trying to do things with only one hand' - as I get irrationally irritated when trying to do too much with that one bloody hand.

zaazaazoom · 26/07/2025 23:16

I don't. Mainly because I am a disorganised fucker
