Do you make your bed?

Flora73 · 26/07/2025 22:43

I do, every day. It looks so untidy and I love getting into a made bed.

But I was talking to a friend earlier and she never does. So just wondered what the general consensus was.

Make your bed (at least 5 days out of 7) = You are not being unreasonable

Don’t make your bed = You are being unreasonable

Yes,I don’t like getting into an unmade bed

KingOfPoundbury · 27/07/2025 07:14

I certainly do not.
But one of my staff does, I assume, as it is always made (with perfect Private Hospital Corners) when I retire.

aCatCalledFawkes · 27/07/2025 07:40

Yes always, even if its just very quickly shaking the duvet out. My last ex would just get out of bed and leave it in a mess, I found it really off putting TBH.

MalcolmMoo · 27/07/2025 07:44

I wish I did but I’m terrible I think because I’m always in a rush in mornings so it just doesn’t get made and I’m not back on the room until night time.

If my husband is around (he leaves for work before me normally) he always makes it. I want to be like him!

Londonrach1 · 27/07/2025 07:46

Yes I either fold it back to air it nearly or if someone is visiting make it look neat. Why wouldn't you. Takes seconds ans makes the room look better

likeafishneedsabike · 27/07/2025 07:50

I think it’s revolting to make a bed that just been slept in all night. It needs airing thoroughly. Therefore I hang all duvets on the banister, leave windows ajar and make the beds on return home from work. Nice and fresh.

Cynic17 · 27/07/2025 07:52

Yes, of course. I am far from houseproud, but I can't leave the house if the bed is unmade.

dudsville · 27/07/2025 07:56

I make the bed daily. I see it as a gift to myself; whenever I see the made bed I feel better than if I were to see an unmade bed.

Everydayimhuffling · 27/07/2025 07:56

I don't. What's the point? Just pull the duvet back into place when you get back in. I don't have decorative pillows, though, and the fitted sheet doesn't usually move so it's just arranging the duvet. Easy to do when you are in it.

spanieleyes · 27/07/2025 08:05

Yes, every morning. I have a duvet and a decorative bedspread, so I just straighten the duvet and pull the bedspread over ( the bedspread is tucked in between the mattress and bedstead and just folds back over the bedspread at night- unless it is really cold,in which case I pull it up!)

Fuelledbylatte · 27/07/2025 09:00

Yes every day
Otherwise to me it just feels like you didn’t get up/start the day. Tiny ritual but helps with the passing of time and bedtime feels much nicer.

Caroparo52 · 27/07/2025 09:01

Every day

Every day

Years ago I read an article by a microbiologist saying you should make your bed, you should keep the duvet down to let it breathe. Something about lowering the bacteria count due to UV light exposure.

I followed the first half but now I never remember to open my bedroom curtains before I go out for the day so it probably does nothing anyway!

That should say Shouldn't make your own bed. I don't have the edit button!

JadeSeahorse · 27/07/2025 09:04

Every day - absolutely!

However, I'm old. 😂

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 27/07/2025 09:06

I fold the duvet back halfway, to air the bed. I don’t see how actually making it properly first thing can let it air. Though that was what we were always taught to do as children - back in the days of top sheets, blankets, and an eiderdown in winter.

Thricewomen · 27/07/2025 09:06

Wow. I feel like such a skank now. Surprised three quarters make their bed. I make mine just before I get in it again for the night!

I loved an eiderdown! And blankets. I still put blankets on my bed. I love the weight.

MellowPinkDeer · 27/07/2025 09:08

I honestly can’t believe how many people don’t make their bed! It’s literally a life basic! Why wouldn’t tYou?!

NorthernDancer · 27/07/2025 09:09

I fold the duvet back so it airs but looks neat.

Exactly

Wynter25 · 27/07/2025 09:14

Sometimes. When I can be arsed

WanderingWisteria · 27/07/2025 09:19

I’m generally a bit crap at finishing tasks and also at allowing the right amount of time for things (I suspect I have ADHD) and so this seems to be one of the —many— routine tasks in my life that I mean to do but just doesn’t seem to happen.
I used to do it all of the time pre-DC and then, once DD1 was born, there was always a distraction. Now they’re older, I should be able to get back in the habit but just don’t seem able to prioritise it. I drive myself mad as there’s a little bit of sadness every night when I go to bed and it’s not been made and I am so happy on a Tuesday (the day that I change the bedding) and it’s all nice & smooth.

Denimrules · 27/07/2025 09:23

Only if DH is away or off to work early, otherwise he always does it.

Bumcake · 27/07/2025 10:23

Yes, always. I leave the duvet folded neatly in half though, not pulled up.
