I’m 39, turning 40 at the end of the year.

My husband thinks I’m being ridiculous with what I spend, but we can afford it comfortably and it makes me feel good.

I spend £42 every 3-5 weeks on nails, and every 3 months or so an extra £15 to get my eyebrows waxed and tinted.

i spend £140 every two months on getting my hair extensions moved up, and then every 4 months an extra £77 to get my roots done.

he thinks this is silly money and an extra £110 a month we could be saving, but I work, it’s my only real splurge each month and it makes me feel great. Am I spending too much? How much do you spend?

Nails are £40 every 3 weeks
Brows £20 once a month
Hair is £70 every 8-12 weeks

Cappuccino5 · 17/07/2025 13:52

£44 every 3 weeks on nails
£10 every 3 weeks for eyebrow threading
~£150 every 3 months for balayage, cut & blow dry
£33 every 6 weeks for a pedicure
£45 every 2 months for lash lift and tint

Would you say the last lift is worth it? I’m really interested in getting one!

Never had my nails, brows or anything else like that done. Haircut is about £50 and I try to go about 3 times a year but I hate it so it's usually only twice a year max.

But there's a huge spectrum of what anyone choses to spend money on in this area. None of which will help you because you could find 100 women who spend 5 times as much as you a month and 100 who spend zero.

purplecorkheart · 17/07/2025 13:53

Nails are €42 every three weeks. Although have stopped this as my name have got very weak.
Hairs is €75 for a cut and colour. Slightly less if there is no cut, Sadly need to colour my hair every four to five weeks.

CoffeeCakeAndALattePlease · 17/07/2025 13:54

legs & Hollywood £50 every 6 weeks.
haircut about £40 once a year.

I think if people can afford it and like having it done then why not.

doodleschnoodle · 17/07/2025 13:54

£32 every 3 weeks on nails. £70 every six weeks on hair. Massage once a month/every six weeks for about £45. Misc beauty stuff, maybe another £20-30 a month or two (eyebrow wax/bikini wax) and then my prescription skincare is £25 a month. So about £100-120 a month I think.

Absolutely!! It makes such a difference and really lifts + brightens your entire face. I have quite long but very straight lashes so it has been a massive game changer for me. Most days I don’t even feel the need to wear mascara - literally just wake up, pop a bit of tinted SPF on and go!

Picklechicken · 17/07/2025 13:54

If you can afford it it’s fine. We all spend money on different stuff. Personally I don’t do any of that. I dye my own hair at home every few months (£11 box dye), I paint my own nails and I just pluck my brows into shape and use a brow pencil to fill them in. I worked for Clinique and then Chanel for years and years so I’ve always had access to huge discounts on beauty stuff but I’ve also learnt that spending more doesn’t alwqys equal better. I don’t enjoy salon etc so I never go to them. I get my hair cut maybe once a year just to cut the ends off. I’m 44.

I spend money on holidays, eating out and days out.

ACupFullOfCrazy · 17/07/2025 13:54

hair £12 every 6 weeks or so

thats it, I am very low maintenance😂

TotallyAddictedToCoffee · 17/07/2025 13:55

Nails were £40 every 3/4 weeks but I've stopped that and have joined the gym instead because £40 for infills is, in my opinion, fucking extortionate!

Hair is £15 every 6ish months (DH shaves the sides every few weeks and my hairdresser maintains the rest, but it's a short style so doesn't need doing too often) Plus £15ish when I bleach/dye it pink every 6 months or so (DIY)

I tint my own eyebrows

Moveoverdarlin · 17/07/2025 13:56

Hair is £125 every 13 weeks.

Don’t spend anything else on treatments, but I do spend a lot on good fake tans, lotions and potions etc. Just do my nails myself.

Commonsense22 · 17/07/2025 13:56

Not happening as we have other priorities, but ideally u could spend 120 pounds every 6 weeks in hair, 20 a month on eyebrows, 30 a month on nails and a lot on laser hair removal.

If you can afford it it's fine.

FestivusMiracle · 17/07/2025 13:56

Facial every 4 weeks - £80.

Botox about once a year - £300.

That’s it! I do everything else myself.

Poopeepoopee · 17/07/2025 13:56

£45 nails every 3 weeks
£90 on pedicure every 8 weeks
£55 every 6 weeks eyelash lift and tint and eyebrow wax and tint.
£210 every 12 weeks highlights and/or cut

classiccake · 17/07/2025 13:58

£0 nails i do my own.
£0 hair.
£0 eye bro i do my own.
But i spend out for waxing and message treatments i have a 2 hour spa treatment twice a month.

AlexandraJJ · 17/07/2025 13:59

I spend at least double that on my nails and skin and if you factor in hair care products more so but then I’m single so not accountable to anyone but even when I was married, my ex used to also treat me to all kinds of beauty products because he knew I appreciated them. If you earn the money and can afford it you get pleasure from it I think that monthly spend as a main splurge is more than reasonable.

BriefHug · 17/07/2025 14:00

Cut & highlights: £120 every 12 weeks
Nails: £8 on whatever the ‘new’ nail varnish colour is a couple of times a year
Tweakments: £0
Lashes: £0
Waxing: £0
Massage: £30 every 2 months, but it’s for DDog, not me

twistyizzy · 17/07/2025 14:03

£0 on beauty/brows/nails etc
£35 on hair once every 3 months

People take me as I am or not and none of my friends are into maintenance either. But then we all have an insanely expensive hobby/lifestyle ie horses.

Shoxfordian · 17/07/2025 14:03

My hair is about 120 every 6-8 weeks, nails about 60 a month.

Do you work op? Why does your husband think he can dictate what you do with your money?

YourWinter · 17/07/2025 14:03

I’m 69 and had my nails done for the first time ever in June for DD’s wedding, I love them. They were re-done after four weeks (BIAB), probably three would be better if anyone but me was going to see them. It’s £34 and despite my extremely low pension income I’ll carry on until the novelty wears off as they delight me every time I look at them! Long term I won’t be able to justify it.

I have longish hair twisted up in a claw clip or ponytail and just lop bits of fringe off myself if it annoys me. Never had brows or lashes done and I don’t really like being touched, so facials and massages are a no-go.

Nina1013 · 17/07/2025 14:04

It’ll be relative to the area you live in too.

For me (up north so comparatively cheap) -
• every 3 weeks builder gel nails £35

  • every 6 weeks gel toes £20 ish
  • every 2 weeks eyebrow wax and tint and lip wax £43
  • every 4 weeks basic roots and cut to cover my copious and very obvious greys £70 ish

Same here! I get a haircut about 4 times a year, but just couldn’t justify spending money (or time) to get nails etc done every few weeks. I dye my hair at home every few months as well, so I guess that’s another £15 or so.

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 17/07/2025 14:04

I do my own nails, pedicure, eyebrows.... Pay £22 for a dry cut, every 8 weeks.

Crazyladee · 17/07/2025 14:07

Nails and gel toes (summer only for toes) - about £50 every 3 to 4 weeks.

Hair - £75 every 8 weeks for highlights toner and cut
Botox - £180 every 6 months
Skin boosters - £240 for a course of 3 boosters (summer only)

Brows - £18 every 8 weeks for henna brows.

I honestly don't want to think of how much money I spend on skincare products on top of all that. I go for Korean skincare products as well as Elemis. I do look after my skin though and try to save money wherever I can.
