I’m 39, turning 40 at the end of the year.

My husband thinks I’m being ridiculous with what I spend, but we can afford it comfortably and it makes me feel good.

I spend £42 every 3-5 weeks on nails, and every 3 months or so an extra £15 to get my eyebrows waxed and tinted.

i spend £140 every two months on getting my hair extensions moved up, and then every 4 months an extra £77 to get my roots done.

he thinks this is silly money and an extra £110 a month we could be saving, but I work, it’s my only real splurge each month and it makes me feel great. Am I spending too much? How much do you spend?

'You couldn't sound more condescending if you tried.'

Good. I hope I made my point .

Sorry to disappoint you, but you hoped in vain.

You did manage to fit the mumsnet trope of the head tilt and tinkly laugh though, so well done on that.

£42 on nails every 3 weeks
£140 on extensions refit and roots every 6 weeks

i used to bite my nails for years so its my treat to myself and i like that people admire them. I’ve also now got the hair of my dreams thanks to extensions so it’s worth it in my opinion!

I go to the hairdresser twice a year, I get gel toes two/three times a year.
It’s the time for me, if someone came to my house and did it all in an hour I’d think about it… maybe. I detest sitting there waiting…. and waiting.
I used to go once a month and do the lot, one time I was there about five hours. That was it.

Well we'd best hope you don't get stuck in financial dire straits and be forced to give up your makeup and beauty treatments then. Like that stupid, stupid woman on Jeremey Kyle who was spending 30% of family income on make-up etc but wasn't paying the rent. Her kids weren't happy about having to eat basic meals either and her own mother telling her no amount of make-up would make her less self obsessed.

Good Lord 😮

I'm stating a fact and that link has already been posted on Mumsnet, so it's hardly a problem.
Too much of anything can be bad. Too much tanning, too many vitamins, too many chemical peels etc.

Last time it was dental stuff and a lipstick. Our company does hardware installations for Boots and their offices. We get vouchers from there head office a few times a year.

A lipstick?!? How utterly frivolous! Why did you do that?? You could have spent that money on essentials like toothpaste, shower gel, paracetamol , not something that only YOU could benefit from for your own superficial purposes! What about your faaaaamily?? Your kids didn’t ask to be born!

Has OP come back?

In the melee of criticism for folk spending their dosh on whatever they want, its easy to miss that OPs partner thinks it's too much and has said so. I think OP was putting it out there just to see what other folk thought reasonable, and the answer is that everyone is different, everyone spends money on 'stuff'.

Some like spending it on cruises, holidays, motorbikes or model railways. So long as they can afford it and its not causing financial problems, it's their perogative.

Op, he says its silly money. You say you can afford it and it makes you feel good, just smile brightly and tell him so. Does he have hobbies, foibles or interests he spends dosh on?

Never had my nails, brows or anything else like that done. Haircut is about £50 and I try to go about 3 times a year but I hate it so it's usually only twice a year max.

But there's a huge spectrum of what anyone choses to spend money on in this area. None of which will help you because you could find 100 women who spend 5 times as much as you a month and 100 who spend zero.

This I’m not paying a tax to have nails, eye brows etc done as men don’t!
