Is Pride exempt from public indecency rules?

DD (aged 14) went into London today with a friend she is staying with. I can only assume friend’s parents didn’t realise it was pride weekend and we don’t live anywhere near London so had no idea.

Aside from the fact that it was a complete ballache getting back out because tube stations were closed, DD said she was shocked at some of the things she saw in terms of arses on display with men just wearing “thongs”.

How is it OK to have such sexualised stuff going on in view of young kids?

There are plenty of police around at Pride. Presumably if laws were being broken they would do something about it.

But I do have to see it, if it's happening right in front of me! Obviously I would then turn the other way, but I've already seen it!

I think people of both sexes should wear clothes which cover them from their nipples to upper thighs, at the very least, when in public. I also think people should refrain from wearing fetish gear in public. I cannot understand why this is a controversial opinion.

Who do you think you are? Just because YOU believe that is correct does not in any way make it so.

Probably best to have some idea of what's going on in an area you're sending your unaccompanied kid to.

Do you live in london, or a big city?

Big cities are full of unique and weird happenings - thats what makes it so great

People wanna do away with the nightclubs, the events, the carnivals, the naked bike ride

Its just one day of the year 😄, its part of what makes london so cool

This is a perfect example of normalising inappropriate and frankly disturbing behaviour. Calling it weird and unique.

Erm, why are you coming for me? Get back in your box.

Have you ever even been to a Pride parade?! Do you live in London?! Have you ever taken the time to fully look up the history of Pride?! (And I mean really look it up, watch some documentaries, read some well-written texts - not just what you hear on here or the Daily Mail). You don't seem to have much of a clue to just be leaping to all these random assumptions. I didnt see a single furry butt plug. Just a couple of hairy cheeks, some fun outfits and a whole lot of love.

Anyone who doesn't understand what the Pride march is London is like and wants to go with their kids, should do their own homework. Pride London does not = Pride everywhere.

Charming.

You said I know, but quite frankly, all you have to do is use your eyeballs 😅 when I pointed out that Pride events generally promote themselves as being family friendly and gs r no 18+ earnings on their website.

Yes I’ve been to a Pride event.

I have no idea why I have to read some ‘well written texts’ on the history of Pride in order to point out that public nudity and fetish is nit ‘family friendly’.

Anyone who doesn't understand what the Pride march is London is like and wants to go with their kids,

Are you suggesting that despite their claims, we should assume that Pride is full of men displaying their sexual fetishes and is therefore utterly unsuitable for children? I

According to Pride history, gay men worked hard to dispel any links with paedophiles and inappropriate behaviour around children as a myth though??

Two years ago I went to see Pulp during Pride weekend.

On the tube back to catch my connecting train was a man in a nappy and a bra holding a trans flag.

It’s been co-opted by people who like to bring their whole selves to work…as it were. When I was a kid, people like the guy I was unfortunate to bump into were called flashers and arrested.

Flashing what?

IButtleSir · 05/07/2025 22:33

JaneEyre40 · 05/07/2025 22:27

Again, WHY do you care?

Because I don't want to see it! Why is that so hard for you to understand?

SquishedMallow · 05/07/2025 22:26

Actually I'm the first person to call out man hating on here. It's more to do with the context of lack of consent of being subjected to nudity at an event advertised as 'family friendly '. I don't want to see men or women's arses. And if you really do regularly see women in thongs in public walking around in town, I'd expect them to be reported for public indecency. The same way a man jn Speedos on the beach is acceptable, but if he was walking round Tesco : same applies, public indecency.

And again

An arse isn't something you need "consent" to witness

Just stop staring

We don't have public indecency here. There is a right to nudity so long as its not intended to cause harm or offence

You can literally walk around naked and it's legal

Gay people are weirdos, right. You've just shown who you are.

Awww, last line of defence. When losing an argument, start calling people names so you can shut them up.

Try harder.

JaneEyre40 · 05/07/2025 22:34

IButtleSir · 05/07/2025 22:33

Because I don't want to see it! Why is that so hard for you to understand?

Don't LOOK at it!? No one is breaking the law, YOU don't like it but no one cares what YOU don't like. How do you not get that?

I don't like fucking strawberry chocolate so I AVOID it.

TheOriginalEmu · 05/07/2025 22:34

IButtleSir · 05/07/2025 22:33

Then don’t look. It’s quite easy,

BundleBoogie · 05/07/2025 22:35

UsingAMansNameInAWomensWorld · 05/07/2025 22:08

Arses aren't sexual

Plenty of women are walking around showing their arse

It's pretty clear your issues are with the "men" part.

Men are the sex that can ‘(and does) use their private body part as a weapon, yes.

JaneEyre40 · 05/07/2025 22:35

TheOriginalEmu · 05/07/2025 22:34

Thankfully someone has a brain. Jesus, this thread is scary. It's like something from the 70's.

Do you constantly swerve when on beaches to avoid bikini bums and speedos? 😂😂😂

I expect this poster expects to see underwear like attire on a beach. I don't expect she expects to see it at lunchtime in town on a Sunday afternoon.

UsingAMansNameInAWomensWorld · 05/07/2025 22:35

You absolutely know it’s not the same thing. People on beaches are either swimming, hence the clothing, or sunbathing. They aren’t there primarily to advertise their kinks and fetishes to all and sundry. Stop deluding yourself with the notion that these men are not abusing this day to parade their sexual fetishes to all these non consenting adults and children. Why should their pornographic lifestyle be shared among those that haven’t consented to see it? Just stop being silly

Wow...now the gays are using their penis' as weapons at pride. Right.

😂Who do I think I am? Jesus wept.

I think I'm a person who, like all people, shouldn't have to see nudity and sexualised behaviour that I haven't consented to seeing. The fact that you seem to find that so utterly audacious is very telling.

Doubt it. Have you seen their virtue signalling patrol cars ? Pictures of them on leashes in years gone by at Pride ? They're now a laughing stock because their chief drank the kool aid

EdwinaIronside · 05/07/2025 22:37

If you think wearing a thong in public is illegal, I suggest you don’t go anywhere near a beach.

Sabire9 · 05/07/2025 22:37

The amount of pearl clutching on mumsnet is incredible at the moment.

And I feel sorry for you. Any more kool aid left in that #bekind bottle of yours ? Or have you drank the last drop ?
