Is Pride exempt from public indecency rules?

DD (aged 14) went into London today with a friend she is staying with. I can only assume friend’s parents didn’t realise it was pride weekend and we don’t live anywhere near London so had no idea.

Aside from the fact that it was a complete ballache getting back out because tube stations were closed, DD said she was shocked at some of the things she saw in terms of arses on display with men just wearing “thongs”.

How is it OK to have such sexualised stuff going on in view of young kids?

OP posts:

Are people there walking around in fetish gear too?

Fetish gear and a thong are not the same thing

OP didn't say fetish gear. She said thong.

I tell you exactly how. I emerged from Piccadilly Circus tube station and there it was.

Haha, touché

HundredMilesAnHour · 05/07/2025 22:25

We don't go for days out in London during July anymore because the level of indecency was so, so bad.

Am I living in a parallel universe? Honestly, I have no words.🙄

I live in London. I will be refusing to go into the office on Monday due to it being July and the levels of indecency being so very bad in July. I’m sure my boss will understand.

Because when they do it in public, we can see them, with our eyes.

You don't need to watch! What do you think should change? I'm curious.

Why does winning ‘the right to exist peacefully’ result in people waving their fet life credentials in public?
I don’t get the connection between gay people having the same rights as everyone else- which I’m very pleased about- and BDSM/babyplay/exhibifionism.

I’m pretty sure being gay isn’t the same as being an exhibitionist/BDSM/[insert fetish here].

I thought that was the whole point? Way to go undermining all the progress.

Do you live in london, or a big city?

Big cities are full of unique and weird happenings - thats what makes it so great

People wanna do away with the nightclubs, the events, the carnivals, the naked bike ride

Its just one day of the year 😄, its part of what makes london so cool

Walk the other way if it offends you sooo much.

Or alternatively, people could leave their overtly sexualised behaviour at home.

If you’re gay and proud of it, because homophobia is fucking disgusting, then good luck to you and you have my full support. But if you’re into fetish gear, whatever your sexuality, whilst that’s fine I think it’s reasonable to keep it the fuck off Oxford Street at 3pm on a Saturday.

Touché my ass. I saw a bum cheek, now I need therapy, my poor kids were traumatised.

Barely and the thong is a thong

It's the same really

But it's not "the mens" so we can't attack them the same

Actually I'm the first person to call out man hating on here. It's more to do with the context of lack of consent of being subjected to nudity at an event advertised as 'family friendly '. I don't want to see men or women's arses. And if you really do regularly see women in thongs in public walking around in town, I'd expect them to be reported for public indecency. The same way a man jn Speedos on the beach is acceptable, but if he was walking round Tesco : same applies, public indecency.

Why should someone have to change their route to avoid seeing someone's arse? Or someone dressed in fetish gear? Surely it's reasonable to assume you wouldn't see these things in public?

Many people live in London between those very ages....crazy.

The point exactly. Teens live in London.

That’s it everyone. Whip out your blindfold and cover your kids eyes as soon as you see fetishized behaviour at a public event like Pride. It’s you who must cover your eyes. It’s you who must go it of your way to protect children from it.

We mustn’t disturb the enjoyment of weirdos.

Do you constantly swerve when on beaches to avoid bikini bums and speedos? 😂😂😂

Whose time to celebrate? I know many gay people, and none of them want to celebrate their sexuality in that way. In fact several of them have told me they hate Pride because it perpetuates the myth that gay people are sex-obsessed deviants.

It’s not Fetish Pride.

UsingAMansNameInAWomensWorld · 05/07/2025 22:30

SquishedMallow · 05/07/2025 22:22

I get where you're coming from. But, at a beach or a pool you are going there with the expectation that people will be in "underwear" like garments. That's what bikini and swim shorts kind of are. But at a so called public "family" event in the street: you wouldn't perhaps expect to see naked arses. I think context is everything. We're constantly shouted at by white straight women that gay males are about so much more than anal sex and promiscuity. because oh no, there's never any truth in stereotypes. It's all about love . And it's all just liked BBC dramas where they're just like a straight couple. So, naked arses at an "acceptance/'love is love ' festival is really helping the cause isn't it ? but now the straight white women are saying it's ok ?

Wearing a thong isn't celebrating anal sex 🤣🤣🤣

Also, you don't know anything about the posters here to be suggesting we are all white and straight...

SquishedMallow · 05/07/2025 22:30

Jennps · 05/07/2025 22:06

Still waiting for the ‘achingly cool crowd’ to explain why, if a straight person behaved the way described in this thread, they would be considered a risk or a fetishist, but it’s ok to do at Pride?

Why is it different?

Because, there's a two tier system that's been successfully achieved.

It's just the gullible #bekind shouties are too brainwashed to see it.

IButtleSir · 05/07/2025 22:30

JaneEyre40 · 05/07/2025 22:25

You don't need to watch! What do you think should change? I'm curious.

But I do have to see it, if it's happening right in front of me! Obviously I would then turn the other way, but I've already seen it!

I think people of both sexes should wear clothes which cover them from their nipples to upper thighs, at the very least, when in public. I also think people should refrain from wearing fetish gear in public. I cannot understand why this is a controversial opinion.

Pollen count: high

Indecency levels: critical

Gay people are weirdos, right. You've just shown who you are.

Weirdos and weirdos. You are mistaking the vast majority of the gay community for the sex-obsessed kink minority who have hijacked Pride and turned it from a celebration of sexuality during a time of repression into a celebration of sex itself.
