Is Pride exempt from public indecency rules?

DD (aged 14) went into London today with a friend she is staying with. I can only assume friend’s parents didn’t realise it was pride weekend and we don’t live anywhere near London so had no idea.

Aside from the fact that it was a complete ballache getting back out because tube stations were closed, DD said she was shocked at some of the things she saw in terms of arses on display with men just wearing “thongs”.

How is it OK to have such sexualised stuff going on in view of young kids?

Save your bloody energy for something actually problematic. Closet homophobe?

Why did Mumsnet do away with the laugh emoji?

So because I find an article written by a lesbian writer interesting, I am a closet homophobe? I love the reasoning.

And yet on MN a couple of months ago, a woman absolutely had a new one ripped, for daring to complain about a young woman wearing a thong bikini at her local swimming pool.

Either arses ARE sexual, or they aren't. They can't be OK in Bognor Regis local swimming baths but NOT OK at carnival type events.

Which is it?

Beach clothes at the beach. Fine. Beach clothes in the city mid afternoon, nNot fine.

I had exactly this issue last year when I was in London at the same time as Pride and accidentally found myself in the middle of it with my DCs. There was a group of people wearing fishnet stuff, things barely concealing anything, and leather gear. One woman’s vulva was plainly visible.

I would support any festival that was anti-prejudice / homophobia or whatever. But this was a no holds barred display of overt kink/raunchiness. It was about sex rather than sexuality. And whilst I’ve got no problem with people doing whatever they like with whomever they choose, I’d prefer them not to be acting it out in fetish wear down Oxford Street on a Saturday afternoon.

I saw a vulva in my local restaurant last weekend. While she was in the queue at the bar. Her shorts were so short I saw the beginnings of labia.

It isn't just pride. It's everywhere.

You missed the point. She can come to a lot more harm travelling around than watching a bunch of gays having a great time. Also, when were you 14, 30/40 years ago....London has changed.

Blimey, why have you assumed my age quite so specifically? It was less than 20 years ago, and it really hasn't changed that much!

JaneEyre40 · 05/07/2025 22:18

Jennps · 05/07/2025 22:15

Would be kinda worrying if all these people who are falling over themselves justifying this behaviour around children, have children of their own.

We do! Thankfully they will grow up to not be total bloody prudes! Oh dear someone's bum cheek, I fear I may faint!

They are not generally on display either.

Been out on any Saturday night in many towns in Essex?. ?

Micro skirts and micro shorts will still. Cover an arse crack (just, albeit) and I too find that attire a little distasteful.

Barely and the thong is a thong

It's the same really

But it's not "the mens" so we can't attack them the same

Sorry, by 'event' I meant something equivalent to Pride. Notting Hill Carnival I'll give you, but there are no parades for IWD or Eid.

My city does Eid in the park to celebrate. London does Eid on the square. Luton gives it an entire weekend.

Are people there walking around in fetish gear too?

I used to go to central London with a friend at 14! It's London, not Mordor.

Me too I live in London between age 12 and 22

Most LGBT+ people are very clear that MAPs are NOT part of their community....

I’m sure most LGB people want to distance themselves from paedophiles. It’s not so clear cut with the TQ+

Sophie LaBelle’s paedophiliac images and ‘talks’ have been promoted by and for trans groups. Women objecting to public facilities being used for his talks were removed.

For anyone that doesn’t know, he identifies as a woman and lifts people’s baby pictures from the internet and reproduces them in sexualised cartoon form for his nappy fetish ‘community’. This is why we should never let our children’s pics be publicly available.

The discredited Children’s Charity Mermaids had a board member who wrote papers promoting paedophilia. Trans adviser to the Green Party ‘Amy’ Challenor employed his dad as campaign manager while he faced charges for kidnapping and raping an 11 yr old girl while holding her hostage in his loft. Mermaids also posted pictures of a young boy dressed in a sexualised outfit in his bedroom on their website. The founder of Surrey Pride was recently convicted of raping an 11yr old boy. A Drag Queen associated with a Pride organisation in Wales (from memory) was convicted of child sex offences (reporting quickly suppressed by the BBC fur *reasons). I could go on for a while with more examples. Too many to be a coincidence.

Slimlampshady · 05/07/2025 22:21

I tell you exactly how. I emerged from Piccadilly Circus tube station and there it was.

SquishedMallow · 05/07/2025 22:22

Slightyamusedandsilly · 05/07/2025 22:15

Nah, but you'll see it on public beaches and your local swimming pool.

I get where you're coming from. But, at a beach or a pool you are going there with the expectation that people will be in "underwear" like garments. That's what bikini and swim shorts kind of are. But at a so called public "family" event in the street: you wouldn't perhaps expect to see naked arses. I think context is everything. We're constantly shouted at by white straight women that gay males are about so much more than anal sex and promiscuity. because oh no, there's never any truth in stereotypes. It's all about love . And it's all just liked BBC dramas where they're just like a straight couple. So, naked arses at an "acceptance/'love is love ' festival is really helping the cause isn't it ? but now the straight white women are saying it's ok ?

BloodandGlitter · 05/07/2025 22:22

Jennps · 05/07/2025 22:20

Afraid I don't know everyones fetish so couldn't tell you. The point was that other minorities didn't get celebrated though not about if someone was wearing a thong or not to a religious festival. The women at Carnival barely cover their nipples and definitely don't cover their arse I'd bet good money that's a fair few peoples fetish.

Vaisaki (sp?) closes more roads and for longer than Pride does here

We also have massive events for Armed Forces Day (that includes a parade), Eid, Windrush Day, Black History Month... in fact it's almost every other day the Mayor is photographed posing with the flag of the day

lemonraspberry · 05/07/2025 22:22

It is unfortunately the world we live in these days. Instead of lived experiences, good conversations it is not just about slapping your sexual preferences & fetishes into peoples faces &making sure everyone knows what they are.

There are small events in London for eid - very welcoming, GREAT food 🥰

And there are events for football teams winning things, royal events, events celebrating soldiers (rightly). In Chinatown on Chinese new year, its lovely. Glastonbury- music and paganism(?)

Its just that pride and notting hill carnival are big events which upset people
