Is Pride exempt from public indecency rules?

DD (aged 14) went into London today with a friend she is staying with. I can only assume friend’s parents didn’t realise it was pride weekend and we don’t live anywhere near London so had no idea.

Aside from the fact that it was a complete ballache getting back out because tube stations were closed, DD said she was shocked at some of the things she saw in terms of arses on display with men just wearing “thongs”.

How is it OK to have such sexualised stuff going on in view of young kids?

Seriously, chill. Your DD 14 went to central London alone with a friend or with them and their parents? If the former, men in thongs are the least of your worries.

I had exactly this issue last year when I was in London at the same time as Pride and accidentally found myself in the middle of it with my DCs. There was a group of people wearing fishnet stuff, things barely concealing anything, and leather gear. One woman’s vulva was plainly visible.

I would support any festival that was anti-prejudice / homophobia or whatever. But this was a no holds barred display of overt kink/raunchiness. It was about sex rather than sexuality. And whilst I’ve got no problem with people doing whatever they like with whomever they choose, I’d prefer them not to be acting it out in fetish wear down Oxford Street on a Saturday afternoon.

Why isn't there an annual event to celebrate what other marginalised groups have achieved?

Personally, having equal rights is enough of a celebration for me.

Nobody's stopping any marginalised group having a parade if they want to.

Branster · 05/07/2025 22:10

I know exactly what you mean OP!
I've stumbled across the London Pride event for a good few years, every year. Days out, often with the children in tow, middle of the day.
We don't go for days out in London during July anymore because the level of indecency was so, so bad.
I can understand if it was evening time or just one location. But no, middle of the day, obviously attendees spread around the areas because they need to travel, groups of people everywhere you turn.
I would point out the one positive thought, and that is I never felt in any way unsafe and there was a sense of they get on with having a good time and not actually bothering anyone. I'm guessing is dressing up because it is an event, people don't actually go around dressed like that in day to day life. Which is brilliant. Apart from, I don't want any of my children seeing the display of over sexualised attire.

Arses aren't sexual

Plenty of women are walking around showing their arse

It's pretty clear your issues are with the "men" part.

I don't see females parading their whole unknickered arse at pride. I've never ever seen it.

Remagirl19 · 05/07/2025 22:10

Have you seen the pop videos kids watch?

UsingAMansNameInAWomensWorld · 05/07/2025 22:10

SammyScrounge · 05/07/2025 22:05

They are not generally on display either.

There's a post on here every other day complaining about seeing arses

They aren't that uncommon

There are lots of events to celebrate lots of communities - notting hill carnival, eid festivals, international women's day etc

Oh, one of those 'gotcha' deflective scripted rote answers hey.

There will have been girls in microshorts and microskirts with thongs underneath walking around London. I can guarantee it

Thanks for sharing that - interesting reading.

Save your bloody energy for something actually problematic. Closet homophobe?

JustSawJohnny · 05/07/2025 22:11

Jennps · 05/07/2025 22:01

You’re wasting your breath. This is the usual ‘oi you homophobe’, ‘oi you bigot’ crowd that try and shut you up calling you names.

How exactly does people not agreeing with you 'shut you up'?

IButtleSir · 05/07/2025 22:12

Jennps · 05/07/2025 22:06

Still waiting for the ‘achingly cool crowd’ to explain why, if a straight person behaved the way described in this thread, they would be considered a risk or a fetishist, but it’s ok to do at Pride?

Why is it different?

A LOT of the people (men) who are behaving this way at Pride ARE straight, FYI. But because they've donned a wig and described themselves as lesbians, it's apparently okay.

Meanwhile, the real lesbians are dressed sensibly and averting their eyes.

That's every friday and saturday night in the city centre.

Children aren't generally present in our outside of nightclubs at that hour. Parents wouldn't voluntarily take their children for a day out outside the clubs on a Friday night. Pride however....

I used to go to central London with a friend at 14! It's London, not Mordor.

How the fuck do you 'accidentally' find yourself in the middle of a pride parade. Were you forced to watch at gun point? Oh lol these comments. So many of you need to have a drink.

Slightyamusedandsilly · 05/07/2025 22:15

And yet on MN a couple of months ago, a woman absolutely had a new one ripped, for daring to complain about a young woman wearing a thong bikini at her local swimming pool.

Either arses ARE sexual, or they aren't. They can't be OK in Bognor Regis local swimming baths but NOT OK at carnival type events.

Which is it?

Jennps · 05/07/2025 22:15

Would be kinda worrying if all these people who are falling over themselves justifying this behaviour around children, have children of their own.

HeyThereDelila · 05/07/2025 22:15

YANBU and this perverted behaviour is just one of the many reasons most people are now so pissed off with “Pride”.

Nah, but you'll see it on public beaches and your local swimming pool.

Micro skirts and micro shorts will still. Cover an arse crack (just, albeit) and I too find that attire a little distasteful.

Freedom for the lgbt community to exist peacefully

Equal marriage

Alan carr being on tv 🥰

Why does winning ‘the right to exist peacefully’ result in people waving their fet life credentials in public?
I don’t get the connection between gay people having the same rights as everyone else- which I’m very pleased about- and BDSM/babyplay/exhibifionism.

I’m pretty sure being gay isn’t the same as being an exhibitionist/BDSM/[insert fetish here].

I thought that was the whole point? Way to go undermining all the progress.

Sorry, by 'event' I meant something equivalent to Pride. Notting Hill Carnival I'll give you, but there are no parades for IWD or Eid.

You missed the point. She can come to a lot more harm travelling around than watching a bunch of gays having a great time. Also, when were you 14, 30/40 years ago....London has changed.

And what hours that? In our local city it's not uncommon to be seeing it at 7pm on freshers night or other student celebrations. Parents don't have to voluntarily take their children to pride either.
