To be happy that Jeremy Corbyn and Zarah Sultana are founding a new party.

We need someone with backbone to put forward an alternative political viewpoint.

If Labour push through 16 year old votes it’d be interesting to see where they’d go.

Very interesting. Nigel has over a million 16-17 year old followers on Tiktok. He's very popular with Gen Z especially sinc I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here. Reform have 234,175 members and fast catching Labour on 309,000.

Using phrases like ' the Zionist ploy', doesn't do much to dispel the view the Corbyn and his supporters are anti-Semitic.

You people really do believe in pesky, plotting, conspiratorial Jews don't you?

The more simple explanation is that JC was an activist, rather than a political leader, that had spent his life avoiding getting the experience, skill and networks he needed to lead a country, and that everyone in the country, except for die-hard idealist progressive left people, could see it.

Yes, he wasn't a bad constituency MP but it was a mistake to elect him as leader. He would have done a lot better remaining on the backbenches and continuing to represent the people who voted for him.

Zarah Sultana has the biggest social media following of any MP. She's very popular with young people.

And I dare say popular with foreign influencers and nefarious state actors too, after all her followers would be ripe for the picking of any foreign interference plot.

The downing of Iranian internet for a short period and the after effects was a good reminder how open our democracy is open to manipulation on social media.

“On 12 June 2025, dozens of anonymous X (formerly Twitter) accounts advocating Scottish independence abruptly went silent. Many had posted hundreds of times per week, often using pro-independence slogans, anti-UK messaging, and identity cues like “NHS nurse” or “Glaswegian socialist.”

DeafLeppard · 04/07/2025 09:47

Isn't it funny how so many leftwingers talk about Zionist plots and Israeli state interference, when the evidence is that it's Iran who is the one busy trying to pull all the strings in the middle east?

Thats a criminal offence in this country and there are certainly no politicians doing so

He called Hamas terrorists 'friends'. He also wrote the forward to a historically anti-semitic book. He also said he did not count Jewish people as among the minorities he pledged to support.

BurntBroccoli · 04/07/2025 09:53

BareGrylls · 03/07/2025 21:54

Glad to see them both as far as possible from the Labour party.
Sultana isn't interested in the UK or her constituency. She wasn't elected to represent Palestine.
Corbyn is the reason many traditional labour voters voted Tory in 2019.
Let them plot away together.

No - they wanted Brexit so voted for Boris Johnson.

Myrobalanna · 04/07/2025 09:54

LABOUR have split the Labour vote, anybody can see that. The Tories have eaten themselves. Reform don't have to do anything except say 'it's ok not to want refugees if you call them immigrants' in their various ways that they do it. Nothing is like it was ten years ago: there is no two-party system and there is precious little stability.

He did say that, yes. He says he used it as a collective term. If the police thought he was supporting a terrorist group with that phrase, he would have been locked up.

The other two points don't equal supporting Hamas.

I don't know a single Gen-Z individual that supports Nigel Farage.

I also follow him on social media, but wouldn't vote for his party if I was on fire and they were holding a bucket of water.

BurntBroccoli · 04/07/2025 09:53

No - they wanted Brexit so voted for Boris Johnson.

A sizeable vote for Conservatives was due to Corbyn and the economic impact of his policies

And many people were fed up with the Brexit deliberations even Remainers

That said, he should go for it. 1 in ten voters isn’t bad.

Bushmillsbabe · 04/07/2025 09:59

caringcarer · 04/07/2025 02:42

I'm delighted Labour will split. Corbyn, and Sultana might be joined by Diane Abbot, John McDonnell or Nadia Whittome next. I'm wondering how many might join Corbyn. Maybe even Long Bailey.

Hopefully, add in the 'bright spark' which is Emma Reynolds and they will be onto a winner

It does worry me though that this country is becoming increasingly polarised. This party will be labours version of Reform.
We used to have a fairly stable centre right vs centre left political landscape, but people are becoming more and more fed up with being highly taxed whilst seeing a decline in public services. I think most don't mind paying their taxes as long as they are seeing value for it, but even since Labour came in, schools have deteriorated, my nhs team has to cut our budget by around 10% - meaning staff leaving are not being replaced. This environment pushes people towards more extreme parties, which is never a good thing.

inkognitha · 04/07/2025 09:59

They can call their new party Islamo-Left, that’s exactly what they are.

And I would pay great attention to their funding, these idiots are going to be manipulated by foreign agents, if not already, in 3, 2, 1 …

(Very interesting article @PersephoneSeethes )

The other two points don't equal supporting Hamas.

You are extremely naive thinking he would face any consequence. My local bookshop is promoting a book called Hamas: A Beginner's Guide, which describes Hamas as a legitimate government and their 7 Oct attacks as 'a consequence.' An Iranian dissident held up a sign saying Hamas = Terrorist at the marches in London and was physically attacked as well as arrested multiple times for disturbing the peace. A Jewish man was also threatened with arrest for trying to cross the street in the middle of the protest due to police anticipating unrest due to his appearance.

The other examples were for the poster saying criticism of the Israeli government isn't antisemitism. No, it isn't, but racism against the Jewish people is (as is calling for the dismantlement of Israel). No one could pretend that the former is all Corbyn does or believes.

I don't think it's naïve someone would face consequences for supporting actual terrorists, given that the government have just proscribed a protest group. I do however think that describing someone collectively as 'friends', doesn't equal support.

If your local bookshop is actively promoting terrorism, perhaps it should be reported? I highly doubt the police have the resources to comb independent bookshops for signs of terrorism without being notified.

Just imagine if any other legitimate minority was publicly excluded like this.

Cososom · 04/07/2025 10:24

I would happily put money on Reform not even existing as a party by the next GE, let alone winning. They're a bunch of utter incompetents, who don't even have a coherent plan for the single issue that put them into parliament.

Social media followers do not translate into votes in a general election. Jezza doesn't even want to play with Zahra. This whole thing is a nothing story, imo.

Swiftie1878 · 04/07/2025 10:26

It’s great news. Siphons them off so they can be completely ignored with no problem.

Where has this idea if Corbyn as a courageous hero come from? What has he done that makes you think that? He was quite happy sitting on the backbenches for 30 years doing nothing but meeting cranks and handing out leaflets.

it's a bloody mystery!

Shame that Jam and Jerusalem has already been taken as a title.

It’s great news. It means that what little hope Labour had has now been officially extinguished. Reform and Conservatives will now be clear front 2 parties by an absolute country mile at the next GE.

They’re fringe trouble makers. I’m pleased they left.

Notreallyme27 · 04/07/2025 10:52

Redshoeblueshoe · 03/07/2025 21:37

Well splitting the Labour vote leaves the door wide open for Reform.
Is that what you actually want ?

The Labour vote has already been split by Reform. We need a party with a positive message to appeal to the disenfranchised working classes, who will offer them the hope not merely blame all their woes on brown people.
