To feel so upset about the death of Diogo Jota?

I obviously didn't know him personally but I am a Liverpool fan and see him on the pitch every week. I just feel so upset by it, crying reading all the tributes. His poor poor family, to lose the 2 brothers. So sad.

I can’t understand why anyone wouldn’t feel sympathy for the family who are dealing with such a huge loss.
A mum and dad who’ve lost both their sons, and a young wife and mother to three little ones who has to live without the husband she’s loved since schooldays.
I think this has made many people sad, not just the football community. I feel sorry for supporters of Liverpool and also Wolves who have lost one of their own along with his brother.

It’s tragic about Diogo Jota and his brother passing away but don’t delude yourself @wizbit93, Liverpool are no more “special” than any other team🙄. The football community mourned when people lost their lives in the Valley Parade fire (Bradford City), when Bradley Lowery died (Sunderland fan), when Emiliano Sala died (Cardiff City), and when Fabrice Muamba collapsed and almost died on the pitch (Bolton).

I think the way in which the club have conducted the response and support for his family shows exactly why they are ‘special’

the Gallagher’s who notoriously hate Liverpool paying tribute shows how special

being with my boys in my hometown at the parade was a dream come true, despite how it ended

and I will be with them in the Kop on the 4th August singing and remembering this exceptional young man

i think an awful lot of people will say LFC is a very special football club, more people watched Klopp’s final game than watched City lift the premier league cup

Yanbu, I'm had no idea who we was but was shocked when I got the BBC notification. May he and his brother rest in peace. What pain their mother must be in x

I just feel so bad for his family and, to be fair, also for the fans. You're a close bunch, and you've been through a lot. I'm a bluenose but most of my family are reds and everyone is just devastated. It's all the worse because he's so young, he's just been married, his family have lost two sons, and he seemed such a genuinely lovely person. And now he's gone.
My nana was telling me they were only travelling by car to catch a ferry to Liverpool because his doctor had told him not to fly. I don't know if that's true but I suppose it doesn't matter because nothing will bring him back. YANBU and YNWA mate.

It is true, and he supported Everton

This is exactly what I asked s/he hasn’t bothered to answer!

To be honest, yes and no.

I feel sorry for his wife and children, and his parents who have lost two sons in one night.

But it seems fairly likely his death was due to dangerous driving, and if that is confirmed, I have very little sympathy for him. Frankly, he’s lucky he didn’t take out any innocent strangers too - would there be such an outpouring of grief if his decision to drive at excessive speeds had killed a child, or a family, as well as himself? His legacy would certainly be tarnished.

I think there are few things more selfish than deliberate dangerous driving - be that speeding, driving under the influence, whatever. He had no right to endanger other road users.

And now it’s confirmed - he was driving and he was almost certainly speeding.

Ah well now you have updated us that you are correct you can go and enjoy your afternoon and leave this thread as it was intended; for those of us he meant something to.

AngelofIslington · 08/07/2025 17:22

@BeliesBelief it still doesn’t take away from the fact that you were passing judgement without knowing the facts.
It takes a special kind of person to come back to a thread about the death of 2 brothers in their prime just to gloat that they were right.
My thoughts are still with their family at this horrible time for them.

Absolutely this.

LookingAtMyBhunas · 08/07/2025 17:28

Both can be true at the same time.

We can be sad that two young lads have died leaving behind grieving families.

Whilst also feeling anger that it was caused by them speeding.

I'm sure their family feel exactly the same.

Hobnobswantshernameback · 08/07/2025 18:57

What a vile human being we've witnessed on this thread.
imagine being enough of a disgusting low life to want to win where there are no winners
I wonder what the actual close family of the individual who's loss you have stolen for this thread should say about you using their loss to point score

ForeveraBluebird · 08/07/2025 19:00

I would hate to have any part of me that appears as happy as you are @BeliesBelief , over such a sad loss.

Annoyeddd · 08/07/2025 19:13

The two footballers meant nothing to me beforehand but they are two young men who have gone well before their time which is so sad for the families.
Also not good that footballer are paid so much they can afford fancy cars which are built for fast driving

Namechangerage · 08/07/2025 19:15

wizbit93 · 03/07/2025 21:33

I feel the same and am so surprised at how I am feeling. I keep thinking of his poor parents. To lose your children in such circumstances together is so hard to comprehend.
I don’t know if it is just that I am a huge LFC fan but I just feel that LFC is more than just a team, more than others (with perhaps the exception of City). I can’t really explain that. It’s one of the biggest teams in the world. Maybe that’s why?

I don’t know, I think your team is just your team and you feel close to the players. The Wolves fans I know are equally devastated.

Why only footballers? Is it ok for a pop star to have one? Or a stockbroker?

Yes them as well. Too much money at a young age while young people (often men) have the feeling they are indestructible

Would you be just as devastated if he had killed another innocent roaduser while speeding/overtaking in his sports car?

Given he wasn’t a hell raising, party type, I would imagine given the road was clear he used his judgment that he wouldn’t be killing an ‘innocent’. Nobody has said speed was the reason for the crash, I’ve had a tyre blowout driving at 40

imagine you had just lost both of your children in this horrific fashion
a woman has lost her only ever love, a good, faithful, devoted husband
3 little children have lost a wonderful, doting father

but you would rather focus on blame, and high and mighty almost glee that you are more perfect than an overpaid footballer

as a lifelong Liverpool supporter he always struck me as a good, hard working, decent young man

it’s actually sickening

pushthebuttonnn · 09/07/2025 07:17

They said yesterday in the news that he was overtaking while speeding so it doesn't look like he was innocent in this unfortunately. I'm just glad he didn't also kill the other person/people or anyone else for that matter. Yes of course it's sad for his family but if you drive dangerously that's the risk you take. It's unfortunate all round that he couldn't have just taken the risk and flown the short flight.

IamMummyhearmeROAR · 09/07/2025 16:19

Unfortunate that this thread has not been allowed to remain as the tribute it was intended to be.
Also disappointing that the bad taste joke about the doctor being an Everton fan has been allowed to stand when other comments have been deleted.

bittertwisted · 10/07/2025 13:04

May be of great disappointment to those on here that seem to be desperate to blame him

Liverpool have just released a beautiful compilation video of him
in insta/facebook, well worth a look, really lovely.
