To feel so upset about the death of Diogo Jota?

I obviously didn't know him personally but I am a Liverpool fan and see him on the pitch every week. I just feel so upset by it, crying reading all the tributes. His poor poor family, to lose the 2 brothers. So sad.

I feel the same and am so surprised at how I am feeling. I keep thinking of his poor parents. To lose your children in such circumstances together is so hard to comprehend.
I don’t know if it is just that I am a huge LFC fan but I just feel that LFC is more than just a team, more than others (with perhaps the exception of City). I can’t really explain that. It’s one of the biggest teams in the world. Maybe that’s why?

It's just awful isn't it. I think the thing that makes it even more horrible is the fact he only just got married. I've shed a few tears myself today, Andy Robertson's tribute has just set me off again.

I was a bit tearful when I found out too. To lose two sons on the same day in such a horrific way must be unbearable. He had only been married for 12 days too and leaving g 3 little dc. It's just so so sad.

Not a LFC fan myself but just feel like LFC have had more than their fair share of awfulness over the years that have cemented more of feeling of connectedness and loyalty than you see in other teams.

It's so awful. It took my breath away when I found out. I can't stop thinking about his poor parents, losing both their children just like that. And of course his childhood sweetheart and young family.

I agree with this, and so much shit chucked at them by the media that it gives a siege/family mentality. I'm a fan of another club but admire the stick together attitude of LFC. Someone i saw quoted in the Guardian said they are a club who know how to put their arms around people and I agree with that.

Not at unreasonable to feel like this. You see these young guys week in week out, you do connect with them. A player who’d been on loan to my club for just a few months but with whom everyone fell in love died suddenly in the Autumn. Of course I’d never met him personally but his death hit me and DS really hard: and this awful news about Diogo Jota is the same. There’s nothing odd about feeling sad about something like this - the opposite I would say.

I’m a Newcastle fan and I’m telling the truth when I say the whole of the football world is feeling the loss of Jota , it’s absolutely heartbreaking 💔. For the family to lose 2 sons is tragic . YNWA 🥹

The size of the club doesn’t matter. A young man has lost his life leaving behind 3 young children, that’s all that matters, it would be sad if it was any club, Premier League or not.

I feel the same. We didn't know him personally, but we have adored him, sung his song, celebrated his goals, loved his funny celebrations. He was a part of the LFC family, our number 20 forever. And so much more than that, Diogo Jota was a son, brother, husband and father to three young children. I can't even begin to imagine what his family are going through (especially his parents, losing both their sons). My heart breaks for them and for Diogo and Andre. YNWA.

I don’t follow football and I hadn’t heard of him but I feel so much for his poor wife, only married 12 days and with such young children. Just dreadful no matter who he was.

I feel sorry for his wife and children, and his parents who have lost two sons in one night.

But it seems fairly likely his death was due to dangerous driving, and if that is confirmed, I have very little sympathy for him. Frankly, he’s lucky he didn’t take out any innocent strangers too - would there be such an outpouring of grief if his decision to drive at excessive speeds had killed a child, or a family, as well as himself? His legacy would certainly be tarnished.

I think there are few things more selfish than deliberate dangerous driving - be that speeding, driving under the influence, whatever. He had no right to endanger other road users.

You’re being very premature. Reports say a tyre blew out in his car, so it sounds like an accident.

Wait for the facts before judging.

There is no evidence that he was driving.
And no evidence that the driver was speeding.

I admit I am more sensitive about this issue than most. When I was a teenager, I lost my seven year old cousin when her family’s car was smashed into by a boy racer, and her ten year old brother suffered a traumatic brain injury and has never been the same since. He was such a bright, articulate boy, but now he’s in his mid fifties, struggles to string a sentence together and still lives with his elderly parents. All of their lives were ruined by one selfish decision. As far as I’m concerned, speeders are scum.

Of course it's absolutely tragic and I feel so desperately sad for the families left behind. We must await the reasons why but I just hope he wasn't speeding because that will be even harder to deal with for his nearest and dearest.

Such sad news, a mum and dad have lost their sons, a young woman her husband and childhood sweetheart. Three little children their daddy.
This is surely a time to show some compassion and sympathy at the loss of these two young men.
