To feel so upset about the death of Diogo Jota?

I obviously didn't know him personally but I am a Liverpool fan and see him on the pitch every week. I just feel so upset by it, crying reading all the tributes. His poor poor family, to lose the 2 brothers. So sad.

And for all those speculating , save it. LFC fans have heard it all and CBA with your pettiness. Leave it for the investigators and then comment

The reality is, a car does not end up crunched like that if it’s a simple case of a tyre blowing out while driving at a sensible speed.

do you know what the speed limit was on the road they died on

Agree. Also, as said, fancy cars aren't actually that structurally sound in a crash. This is a tragedy, stop apportioning blame.

This thread is a place for posters to express their sadness over a tragedy and their sympathy for the two young men who died and for the grieving people who loved them.

I just don't understand the mentality of those who are too tone deaf or driven by their own agendas to be respectful of that. Nobody is asking YOU to mourn the loss of Diogo Jota and Andre Silva, so why are you deliberately and persistently trying to derail the thread? Seriously, just why?

This with more bells on

murasaki · 05/07/2025 00:56

Apparently they've delayed the return to training. And rightly so.

burblish · 05/07/2025 00:56

@simsbustinoutmimi Are you being deliberately disingenuous or do you genuinely not understand the simple difference between speculation and fact? It's not actually that complicated; here, let me help you: the police are investigating possibilities. That means they are trying to find out what happened and whether or not certain things may or may not have happened. Please read this slowly and carefully: investigating IF something happened is not confirmation that it did in fact happen. You seem curiously unable to grasp this pretty basic concept.

You also seem curiously unable to understand that you are being a callous, goady fucker though, so I shouldn't be surprised.

Absolutely.
the tragedies the club has experienced in the last couple of months are more than all the other PL clubs.
allow us time to grieve

I’ve linked to someone else who asked the same thing as you below. There’s a news article. If you care to google “Diego Jota police investigate speeding” ‘I’m sure it (and many other articles) will come up.

there is a reason my post hasn’t been removed because I linked a reliable source

Edited

You can link me in as many things as you would like. You cannot answer my questions were you there? Did you see? Unless you have facts it is just speculation and what you are doing is cruel. The police are investigating you know no more than anyone else.

murasaki · 05/07/2025 01:06

My club had the angry black man trope used about the death of our beloved Dalian Atkinson, a policeman ended up being jailed. The young man and speeding trope is being used here in a similarly awful manner. Let it play out, and let people grieve.

ClairDeLaLune · 05/07/2025 01:11

BeliesBelief · 03/07/2025 23:09

I did say, ‘if it is confirmed.’

I admit I am more sensitive about this issue than most. When I was a teenager, I lost my seven year old cousin when her family’s car was smashed into by a boy racer, and her ten year old brother suffered a traumatic brain injury and has never been the same since. He was such a bright, articulate boy, but now he’s in his mid fifties, struggles to string a sentence together and still lives with his elderly parents. All of their lives were ruined by one selfish decision. As far as I’m concerned, speeders are scum.

That’s an awful thing to happen and I feel for you and your family, but I don’t think it’s a reason to judge and condemn someone without any evidence. My friend had a really scary tyre blow-out on a motorway. They do happen.

murasaki · 05/07/2025 01:14

I have a suspicion that several posters on this thread have no interest in football and are merely here to talk about speeding. They wouldn't have known who he was until this happened. So it's a bit ghoulish, to say the least.

bittertwisted · 05/07/2025 01:30

a mother and father have lost their only children. A woman has lost her childhood sweetheart, have any of you SEEN the devastation in her?
3 beautiful children have lost their dad, those cute little boys who are his image
LFC have lost him

and you nasty, jealous vultures want to make it his fault. You should be ashamed

HaileyBailey · 05/07/2025 01:37

It’s such a tragedy. My children were that age when my husband died. I keep thinking of his poor wife and everything she is and will be going through and then I remember his parents who have lost both their children! It’s so so wrong.

SnowFrogJelly · 05/07/2025 11:18

This thread is supposed to be about two young men from the same family who tragically died.. why are some posters making it all about themselves

SnowFrogJelly · 05/07/2025 11:20

Sorry @HaileyBaileythat isn’t directed at you

Riverswims · 05/07/2025 11:44

BeliesBelief · 03/07/2025 22:57

To be honest, yes and no.

I feel sorry for his wife and children, and his parents who have lost two sons in one night.

But it seems fairly likely his death was due to dangerous driving, and if that is confirmed, I have very little sympathy for him. Frankly, he’s lucky he didn’t take out any innocent strangers too - would there be such an outpouring of grief if his decision to drive at excessive speeds had killed a child, or a family, as well as himself? His legacy would certainly be tarnished.

I think there are few things more selfish than deliberate dangerous driving - be that speeding, driving under the influence, whatever. He had no right to endanger other road users.

time and a place love 😳

LakieLady · 05/07/2025 12:04

I don't follow football at all and had never heard of him, but even I felt sad for his family. To leave 3 young children and his newly-wed wife is really sad, and his poor parents must be absolutely devastated to lose both of the young men.

And judging by the response from football fans, he must have been really popular.

HistoricalOrchard · 05/07/2025 13:07

Even if it was speeding, it’s still a tragedy. Just an avoidable one. It doesn’t lessen the pain and suffering his loved ones are feeling.

Dustyyy · 05/07/2025 13:32

It’s tragic about Diogo Jota and his brother passing away but don’t delude yourself @wizbit93, Liverpool are no more “special” than any other team🙄. The football community mourned when people lost their lives in the Valley Parade fire (Bradford City), when Bradley Lowery died (Sunderland fan), when Emiliano Sala died (Cardiff City), and when Fabrice Muamba collapsed and almost died on the pitch (Bolton).

Menobaby79 · 05/07/2025 13:52

I'm the same I just can't stop thinking about it and his poor wife and kids. The team mates too that have only just been to his wedding.
My dp is a huge Liverpool fan and is so sad about it, constantly watching all the tributes and updates. Its just heartbreaking really.

Keepingittogetherstepbystep · 05/07/2025 14:13

As a lifelong Liverpool fan, this hit hard. It's almost unbelievable. My 1st thought was to his wife and kids.

He was one of footballs good guys, plenty of support for women and especially women's football, always had a smile on his face, lived a relatively simple life

I'm disgusted by the obviously fake AI images doing the rounds on Facebook.

Whilst it's human nature to speculate, Liverpool fans have suffered enough with false allegations in the past so I won't be speculating on the why.

Rip Diogo and Andre

ScoobyBooby · 05/07/2025 19:50

Utterly heartbreaking .

All what matters now is their parents have lost their only children , a wife without a husband and more sad , babies left without their father and uncle .

May they both rest in peace . YNWA ❤️

Was this really necessary? Liverpool have had more than their fair share of tragedies over the last 40 years, more than any other football club certainly in the UK.

Exactly.

Aside from the obvious tragedies, we've also had Sean Cox and the incident at the parade in recent times. It's a lot for one club to deal with and it undeniably has an impact on the club and the fans. Is it so hard for some people to recognise that rather than try to score points?
