My niece is marrying in October. Her day - her rules . But aibu to be a bit shocked at the dress code ? We are all to wear black and only black. No hats. No fascinators. No flowers in our hair. No coloured shoes or handbags. And wait for it - no nail polish. She wants a monochrome wedding.

Hmm...how many of her guests will comply, do you think? I would be tempted to bend the rules significantly...

Mosaic123 · 22/06/2025 16:21

That's a bit odd. Could it be a joke? Is she going to wear a few colours?

vincettenoir · 22/06/2025 16:22

That is really odd. Especially the bit about no nail varnish. I only wear black with a big flash of colour (bright shoes, hair wrap etc). Wearing all black washes me out a bit and doesn’t seem very celebratory.

CameltoeParkerBowles · 22/06/2025 16:23

I've never understood why some brides feel the need to control everyone else's clothing choices. Is it a power trip?

I don’t think it’s a joke - wish it was 😂

This must be a trend at the moment. There was a big celebrity wedding in my country this last week and this must have been the dress code as everyone, all men and women were head to toe black, no hats, etc. It looked like a funeral. Not my cup of tea, but each to their own... At least it will be easy to dress for as you can just wear your funeral outfit.

KIlliePieMyOhMy · 22/06/2025 16:28

What are you eating?
Black pudding, brunt toast, Black Forest Gateaux with Black Currants?
Honeymoon in Blackpool?

shellyleppard · 22/06/2025 16:28

Sounds more like a funeral than a wedding.....

I think that's a lot worst than being a bridezilla. Go or don't go, but if you do accept, just follow the damn dress code.

She wants a monochrome wedding
It's bizarre to say the least but at least it's very easy to follow the dress code.

She will definitively pop out in her white dress (assuming she's wearing white)

Redpeach · 22/06/2025 16:29

Quite an easy request to fulfill, however odd

I don't think it's even that deep, it's likely just for the photos to put on social media, and to blow up to put on their living room wall 😂

outerspacepotato · 22/06/2025 16:30

Good luck with that wedding funeral, bridezilla.

Maybe suggest all photos be done in black and white just to troll her a bit. ;)

ShoutOutLucile · 22/06/2025 16:33

How many men own a black suit and a black shirt? Not many I imagine.

sweetpickle2 · 22/06/2025 16:35

Even though I wouldn’t do it I think the dress code is fine- it’s not like some fancy dress where everyone has to buy an outfit they’ll never wear again, everyone owns black clothes.

The nail varnish is batshit though- for starters lots of people with colour on their nails (like me) get acrylics or BIAB, I might get a neutral colour done but no way would I be paying to have that taken off for someone’s wedding.

outerspacepotato · 22/06/2025 16:35

That's their church ceremony, it looks like they already did the legal ceremony if I got the gist of that right. That's even worse.

It looks like they're at a funeral.😂

Do I spy part of a headstone?

Oh, go in together and gift them a burial plot or prepaid funeral. Have some fun.

KIlliePieMyOhMy · 22/06/2025 16:36

Is she related to Sir Oswald Mosley?

JustAnInchident · 22/06/2025 16:37

Well that sounds terrible. How unfortunate that wedding planning has brought out such an unreasonable, controlling side of her.

greencartbluecart · 22/06/2025 16:38

Everyone does not own black clothes

i would object to havibg to buy something that doesn’t suit me , so will never wear again for someone’s performance wedding

then it's easy, decline the invitation. It's not such a big deal.

Wirdle · 22/06/2025 16:39

Well I wouldn't be taking my gel nails off for this! Least black is pretty easy to find/rewear, feels very funeral to me though

I am sure they can find a cheap version on Vinted if they want a shirt. Why should it always be women who have to find an outfit

How will you manage if you ever go to a funeral?
