To not feel very sorry for woman stuck in Turkey.

I was reading about a woman stuck in Turkey. She was there with her partner who was having teeth implants. So they got drunk and she fell against the glasss shower screen in the hotel. And it smashed. So they did a runner. Police chase. Got caught put in jail. Told they owed £15k or else. Sad face. Hmm. Though it does seem very steep for a shower screen.

Classic chavs abroad really.

Just saw the article and the couple and I have to agree with you. Including the terrible love you to the moon and back tattoo 😆

If you knew the full story you wouldn't think it was a comedy
The relatives of the young girl did a ticktok asking for advice
Their sister is in a difficult situation and is very scared.
She's trying to do the right thing and trying to get home
Not funny at all
Her family are very worried about her safety

I'm relieved to read your compassionate post. So many posters have been unkind.
Thank you

Yes, drunken rampage which I am sure she very much regrets.
Very high price for her mistake.
Cut her some slack

But she was given the money to pay off the high price, and didn’t pay it.

There is only so much sympathy someone deserves.

She was only in jail for 1 day.
She's just in Turkey now, apparently she can't leave until she pays the money, her family raised the money but her lawyer said they're looking for too much so she didn't pay it.

So they had the money, didn't pay the fine , spent money on living expenses (sand, sea and tattoos) , so now want go fund me to raise the money again?....yep 🙄

She's mixed race, probably West Indian or Caribbean.

It the British part that's the problem though!

Chavi in Romani is child

I believe chavo is also used to refer to young unmarried men? Which might be where the association comes from with 'chav' (rather than the chavi for a baby or child)

Serpentstooth · 22/06/2025 06:47

Brits abroad. Should have stuck with Blackpoool, shower screen would be about £50. Is there a crowd fund for this sad pair?

ChocolateGanache · 22/06/2025 08:43

@DaisyChain505whatever happened, calling people “scummy” says a lot about you as a person. None of it good. Do better.

ChocolateGanache · 22/06/2025 08:44

Same for the use of the word “Chav” and other iterations @MCal174

Jennps · 22/06/2025 09:03

That headline is pure comedy gold. ‘Celebrating veneers’.

You can just see British chavs abroad doing exactly that.

OnyourbarksGSG · 22/06/2025 09:06

Ask the perked talking/asking about the level of savage, it’s in the article. It wasn’t “just” a shower screen, it looks like it was en entire glass wall separating the bedroom and the bathroom. Floor to ceiling and about 7ft wide. That’s a HUGE piece of glass and it looks like it was strengthened/ laminated as well so v v expensive to replace and it would take a helluva impact to do that.

Yes you’re right it says a lot about me. It says I’m not scummy. I would never deliberately cause damage to someone else’s property and then run away AKA scummy.

Bruisername · 22/06/2025 09:34

I think there has been a shift in this country and people don’t think they should have to take responsibility for their actions. Especially if it wasn’t premeditated

For example, i was in a supermarket and someone knocked a jar on the floor and they just kept shopping as if it hadn’t happened.

we see more and more stories of Brits caught out abroad who didn’t seem to understand that actions have consequences and consequences on a different country will be different. That doesn’t make that country corrupt or full of mafia etc and that’s the cause of your misfortune 🙄

OonaStubbs · 22/06/2025 09:46

The legal system in this country needs to be tightened up 1000% and people need to be held responsible for their actions or their childrens actions. You break it, you pay for it.

NamelessNancy · 22/06/2025 10:04

I can understand objecting to people being described as scummy etc based on the clothes they wear, or the veneers they get. Behaviour is different though imo. It IS scummy to smash up a hotel room and then try to leg it. It IS scummy to gofund me for cash which you already had but have now spent on more hotel rooms. I actually find it fairly offensive to people who may also want to go to Turkey for a set of veneers but would never behave in this way to object to labelling her behaviour for what it is.

amooseymoomum · 20/06/2025 09:30

I am not saying it's right, but the report I read said she and he took drugs, trashed the room, and smashed the shower screen. It depends on how much damage there is; plus, if the glass screen damaged the shower and tray, it may need a whole replacement. Add into that cleaners and workmen's fees, and you would be talking about a big amount. Yet again, the British giving the British a bad reputation.😡🙄

Not to mention they’ve had to find alternative accommodation for other holiday makers booked into that room while it’s fixed!

Apologies if I've misread but I thought shd was quoted as saying
'I know I shouldn't have mixed alcohol and anti-psychotic drugs'
There are just so many legal wrongs and moral wrongs without even starting on the teeth and lips.

Yes, I saw that too. My sympathy, already hanging on by the thinnest thread, fell right away. I take that sort of medication. The sticker from the pharmacist states "Do not drink alcohol" slap bang in the middle. I don't think that's ambiguous.

Unless she can show that this is the one and only time she has ignored this simple, straightforward directive, I don't think this stands up as a defense. Enforced teetotalism might be dull, and it bloody well is at times, but it is safe for the patient and, so it seems, others. Sorry, love - you're still standing on no legs there.

Of course there is . It’s a gofundme🤣.

T1Dmama · 22/06/2025 11:29

When working out the £15k price, I’m sure the hotel took into account the revenue lost on that room while it’s being repaired… depending on the damage, which is likely more than just a shower screen…. It could be out of use for what is now the start of peak season! (Most of Europe have already broken up for their summer holidays!)

thenovice · 22/06/2025 14:37

You can afford the shower scree if you can afford the dental work.

thenovice · 22/06/2025 14:38

screen

Flavourful · 22/06/2025 14:41

“Cleaner Georgia says she made ‘the worst mistake of my life’ that night by mixing booze with antipsychotic medication which caused her to black out and ‘throw things around’ in the room, shattering a full length glass bathroom screen.”
says it all they trashed the room and thought they’d do a runner. Not sorry for them at all, she left the uk and left her daughter behind, she should have behaved herself, on the upside she’s getting a decent holiday, she’s not locked up, she is free to do as she pleases except leaving turkey.

Flavourful · 22/06/2025 14:56

What is odd with the go fund me, at the top it says this
please help my sister get home to us. Making this go fund me will make Georgias skin crawl but we’ve been silent for 6 weeks.
This is not just about money, if anyone has been in any similar situation and has advice, please please contact Georgia. ❤️
So the sister has done it, but then it says —-Organiser

Georgia Harrison
Organiser
England

so how has her sister set up the go fund me?
correct me if I’m wrong I don’t know how go fund me works

mycatismyworld · 20/06/2025 20:20

She was on anti psychotic drugs apparently, which dont mix well with alcohol. Her partner should have called emergency services before things escalated. The hospital bill would have been enormous if the didn't have medical insurance, which if they had would have been invalidated if she chose to drink alcohol with her medication.

They have a single message on the pharmacist's label, not just in the leaflet - "Do not drink alcohol". That's fairly unambiguous in my book, and while not enjoyable to abide by, it is still very straightforward.

I am sure her family is worried, though. The medication is serious stuff that they don't give lightly as the side-effects are truly horrendous. So she is not a well woman and I would guess her decision making is impaired in general, and even more so with alcohol. So why is the family not stressing that she isn't well? Is it because of shame? The headline could have been very different - "Family worried for relative with severe MH problems who has had a breakdown in Turkey". Turkey teeth aside, that would surely garner a lot more sympathy.

Bruisername · 22/06/2025 15:03

Her partner is with her and, afaik, has no mental health conditions. What is he doing to help the situation? I get that they used her for the press/gfm as she’s got a daughter and health issues but it’s still all very odd

can you imagine being the people in the neighbouring rooms during smashgate. That would be terrifying!
