To say that most heavy duty physical labour is done by men? When was the last time a female plumber, builder, roofer, painter and decorator, drain unblocker, or boiler or washing machine engineer came to your house?

Good job all these men do all these jobs isn't it @YourAmplePlumPoster seeing as you seem to be incapable of doing anything for yourself? Wink

popcornpower2025 · 15/06/2025 19:31

Well they need to be good for something, surely

BethDuttonYeHaw · 15/06/2025 19:31

Read all your updates OP

you don’t have love the patriarchy don’t you 🤣

ScarlettOYara · 15/06/2025 19:31

Will no-one think of the men?! 😭

BatchCookBabe · 15/06/2025 19:30

Yes to this too! ^

I should add, assuming based on posts that it's not because she has a disability or anything. Sounds like she's saying she needs a man in because she's a weak and feeble woman who can't open the tin...

Yep.

My husband like to laugh and say everyone is keen for 50% ratio when it comes to ensuring women are CEOs or in senior roles, but no one seems to be calling for more female bin men!
(He’s all for equality in all roles- just a silly joke he made!)

yes those roles are still majority male, but not inaccessible to women. Many women are not attracted to these type of roles.

They can do them if they have to though. Remember when women were doing all the “men’s jobs” during the war?

Yep. And now we have the likes of YouTube to teach us how to do things.

Can men learn to give birth by watching a few YouTube tutorials? 🤔

Exactly, my 5 ft petite granny worked in a factory during the war building tanks!

BrickHare · 15/06/2025 19:27

Where is the heavy lifting involved in plumbing, painter, drain unblocker, boiler or washing machine engineer? As a HCP I often see many women sometimes some probably weigh about 7 stone hosting patients that are 20 plus stone. None of those examples are “heavy lifting”

Excellent point!

NotMeNoNo · 15/06/2025 19:33

Not all trades involve heavy work, there is a lot of dexterity and skill involved.
Most construction work isn't done "in your house" but on professional construction sites where there is a broader mix of people. Just not as visible.

Women do many physical jobs, yes caring/cleaning/catering occupations are traditionally female but that doesn't rule out someone working in a trade if she wants to.

Everyone should be aware of their personal safety but don't turn it into "the poor women can't go out alone". I think some other countries have tried that...

Some men on these threads can't even seem to look after their own children.

@Barnbrack you are completely correct in the still in place mysogyny and the 'banter'. But as a youngish woman that has entered such workplaces any determined woman just gives it back and does their job and it's soon over with.

No, I don't know a single woman (personally) involved in the trades and I think that's very sad. Not least because if more women were working in the trades then certain standards would improve such as turning up when they say they will, not leaving things half done and most importantly the act of sucking air through teeth whilst going on about how 'complicated' a simple thing will be to do.

I'm in my 60s now and do labouring for any trades that work on my house as it keeps it cheap (er).

And then how many threads have been started by Mums freaking out at the male worker in their nursery or the rare male midwife.

It works both ways.

Heyheyitsanotherday · 15/06/2025 19:34

I’m confused why you’re so angry about this topic?
however, to answer your question. We have a female painter and decorator. And a female plumber. Also our electricians apprentice is also a young woman. Gone are the days those jobs are “for men”.
lots of stereotypical male and female roles are changing now. Women and men can pretty much do any role they choose to. Not 100% sure what the point of your post is

BrickHare · 15/06/2025 19:34

YourAmplePlumPoster · 15/06/2025 19:18

Maybe men should go on strike for a week and if you need any of these jobs done they won't get done. Seriously. This is all because women simply don't want to do these jobs that involve hard physical labour.

Babes, women can cope very well without men. We all know this. Who do you think took over all the “men jobs” during the war? 🤣 The question is can men cope without women? Are they going to be able to deliver a baby, care for the elderly? Be a child nurse, be a gyne doctor?

BatchCookBabe · 15/06/2025 19:34

ScarlettOYara · 15/06/2025 19:33

And on the rare occasion they do, they call it 'babysitting!' 🙄

Butchyrestingface · 15/06/2025 19:34

YourAmplePlumPoster · 15/06/2025 19:09

Can you do without these men? You can try it out and see.

Ah.

Out. Pops. Cloven. Hoof.

Didn't take long. 🙄

ScarlettOYara · 15/06/2025 19:34

When we had rats (oh yes), the pest controller was a woman. There was nothing she didn't know about rats.
She was brilliant.

'Men' should be careful going on strike. May end up striking themselves out of jobs...

Kind of how the 2nd world war went

Women shouldn't have to take it and give it back. Same used to happen in healthcare, now we don't haveto
