To say that most heavy duty physical labour is done by men? When was the last time a female plumber, builder, roofer, painter and decorator, drain unblocker, or boiler or washing machine engineer came to your house?

I had paving stones in the garden replaced last year. It was a male of course and he bought a young male apprentice along with him to help him. I thought how nice this young man is being taught a trade by an older man which is something where he can earn money and provide for a family in the future.

You think women no longer work in factories?

Plenty of women work in call centres which are probably the equivalent these days given the reduced prevalence of factories. Minimum wage labour considered 'unskilled'

It seems it's only the reasonably well paid trades that men guard so massively. I wonder why? Gosh it couldn't be that they are better paid could it?...

It’s quite funny that you think that men are somehow guarding skilled manual jobs from women 😂😬

KaleQueen · 21/06/2025 19:12

The reason that men mainly do these jobs is because women wouldn’t last five minutes. Sorry girls. And I’m a feminist! All day on a building site with only a portaloo, all weathers, all your life. Anyone fancy it? All day plastering walls day in day out, your goal being a smooth finish. Anyone fancy it? Other jobs are just as hard eg nursing as one example but this kind of work and environment IS different so let’s stop pretending it’s not and give the lads the credit they’re due for the hard work they do and for anyone calling them thick - why don’t you say that to their faces when they’re next fixing your property up. See how that goes down 😂👍

Exactly what I've been saying 👏and then to insult the fellas on top!

And that could have easily been his daughter. Girls can lay paving stones just as well as men. But they probably don’t want to. But if they do, great. But in reality, most 20 year old girls don’t want to. Some might. Most won’t.

I'm actually embarrassed for you. 'Sorry girls.' Utterly cringeworthy. 😖

And do not apologise to ME, I have no desire to have an apology from some random on the internet who is talking a load of drivel that I couldn't care less about.

And don't call me a bloody girl. I don't want your patronising and goady 'ooh soz and all that' garbage.

It's clear as day that the only intention (from the OP) for posting this thread, is to laugh and point at women, and say 'ha ha ha you could do NOTHING, and would be NOTHING without men!' No point to the thread, or decent argument to make, just lots of mocking and derision and goading. Most pointless thread of 2025 so far.

You AND the OP seem to be massively projecting some serious insecurities onto women. You need to take a long hard look at yourselves, to see if you can figure out why.

Notadramallama · 21/06/2025 19:33

My en suite was replaced by a female plumber. The company is called Stopcocks and they have members all over the UK.

It's not that it's 'heavy duty' work, it's that it's not always safe for a woman to go into strangers' houses alone because of....... men.

YourAmplePlumPoster · 21/06/2025 19:52

But you're all still here. Unable to believe that there are young men working in arduous conditions and willing to provide for female partners.

@BatchCookBabe I’m not insecure at all. And people can debate what they like and start a thread on what they like.

Im a feminist. But also a realist. The work the team of men (yes men but if there was a woman in there she would have been part of that team) did on my house just recently was the best example of team work and professionalism I’ve ever seen. My point is. Women CAN do these jobs. They mostly don’t want to.

do you want to?

Well that’s kind of debatable as lots of women eg social workers and community nurses and care workers and cleaners (professions mainly dominated by females (agree?) go into a house alone where a man occupies it on its own.

Hang on... you think that posters don't believe there are young men in physical jobs? Or that some of those young men are the breadwinners and have female partners? Who said they didn't believe that?!

Nobody's forcing men to be builders or plasterers.

Nah. Just give them a bit of respect while they're doing the hard labour most people dont want to do.

No they’re not. Which is why some are now midwives. And primary school teachers for example. Both female dominated professions

Rewis · 21/06/2025 21:07

I'm sure statistically most of those jobs are done by men. So I guess, you are not unreasonable to say that?

I haven't used most of those services. But my electrician is a woman. I'm our households painter. Also the engineer who checked our water was a woman.

I think it is an over simplification to claim women want to be nurses and men want to be roofers and separate history, expectations, and society from these.

A pp commented on how women won't last a day in these jobs. I agree, I know two female construction workers through my hobby and there is no way I could tolerate the way they are treated, undermined and harassed. Thankfully one of them is studying to become a construction engineer to get away.

Ha ha. Brilliant. There’s a female tiler around here called ‘Bonnie Tiler’.
I’m sure the uber feminists will be along shortly to say that’s degrading of herself. (For context Bonnie means pretty in the north east of England)
