To be fair, though, there's a big market of single women who don't want a random male in their house...

I've has a "random male" in my house for the past week to do a painting job that was needed. Are you serious 😐 😒

OP posts:
GabriellaMontez · 15/06/2025 19:20

'Men' should be careful going on strike. May end up striking themselves out of jobs...

YourAmplePlumPoster · 15/06/2025 19:09

Can you do without these men? You can try it out and see.

Right so what's your point? Are you happy or angry that mostly men do these jobs?

fluffiphlox · 15/06/2025 19:20

My hall, stairs and landing was wallpapered and painted by two women decorators. Not youngsters either.

Maybe men should go on strike for a week and if you need any of these jobs done they won't get done. Seriously. This is all because women simply don't want to do these jobs that involve hard physical labour.

Oh go away you goady fucker

How would we notice?

Maybe men should be a little more passive agressive and start putting the seat down.

TheHateIsNotGood · 15/06/2025 19:21

I know what you mean OP. There used to be a lot of barriers in the way for women to get into the trades, most are not there anymore and any determined young woman could get into it if they wanted to.

But most young women don't want to and that's the problem really. And many trades don't even need physical strength, although it's quite easy to become strong if needed.

So the equality fought so hard for seems to just surround childbirth and 'rights' due to that, further fulfilling the patriarchal society.

I blame it on the Spice Girls, not personally of course, but from then on all efforts before were downgraded to getting what you want by having a bit of 'sexy' about you. To attract men.....

The jobs you have listed don't need hard physical labour and are pretty well paid jobs. I don't hear many men complaining about being plumbers, electricians or decorators, what would they be going on strike for?

Barnbrack · 15/06/2025 19:22

My sister is a nurse in a long term mental health ward, she's hoisting 20stone men with schizophrenia and wiping bums and cleaning foreskins. It's pretty physical. Gets attacked a lot. Huge number of the female workforce doing similar as nurses or carers.

We saw during COVID lockdowns that most male dominated industries could be largely locked down without deaths increasing, fewer female dominated ones.

It's a bit like the argument men shouldn't have to do the dishwasher and cook dinner because they mow the lawn 6 times a year and clean the gutters twice

I am really struggling with the point of your posts. Lots of men choose these professions as their source of income. They want to be tradesmen. Who is saying otherwise?

TomatoSandwiches · 15/06/2025 19:22

I think it would be great for men in these fields to go on strike, give them enough rope and all that.

Do you know women who work in the trades. I do. The main barrier is the men already there. The mysogyny everyday, the accepted 'banter'

Woodworm2020 · 15/06/2025 19:23

We had a female pest control come and deal with the mice and I’m currently training to be a firefighter 💪

BatchCookBabe · 15/06/2025 19:23

Or maybe it’s because they’re not physically suited to it? They’re more adept to jobs that need brain power, so it makes sense to leave the work that requires physical strength to men.

Nobody is disputing that men are overall stronger physically than women. I’m not sure why you’re trying to start an argument to the contrary. As pps have said, many of these jobs are not particularly physically tough but women have always been discouraged from entering trades. Probably because of Neanderthals like yourself. Best to leave the boys to it so they can keep telling themselves that they’re something special.

Oh FFS try pushing a 7lb baby out of a 10cm hole ripping from vagina to perineum and then being on your feet constantly looking after a toddler and having a newborn permanently attached to your tits! Then come talk to me about hard physical labour!

Women entering these professions experience increased levels of sexual harassment, just a couple of articles about this below.
”Banter” is rife in trades and can make work very unpleasant for young women in entry level jobs. Not to mention the risks to women in these professions entering the homes of strangers alone.

Im a middle aged woman of average fitness and I fitted my own kitchen and do my own plumbing and DIY, including building bathroom cupboard from timber and putting up my own garden fence.
It’s not about capability it’s about self preservation.

Men MAY do these more manual jobs, @YourAmplePlumPoster but they still don't work even one TENTH as hard as WOMEN do during their lives.

HTH.

PurpleChrayn · 15/06/2025 19:25

Men and women are different. Who knew??

Gardenbumblebee · 15/06/2025 19:25

You're right op. We do need men. So let's stop stop pushing for gender equality and just accept lower pay, health issues being ignored, and the occasional raping. Because we NEED men to build walls. Or something to that effect.

When was the last time you had a female roofer, painter and decorator, someone to unblock the drains, the boiler engineer, the plumber, the window cleaner who attended you? Me. NEVER.

And?

PennywisePoundFoolish · 15/06/2025 19:25

My mechanic for my last MOT was a young woman.

I don't get the anger though, I hope my DC don't train in DHs trade (gas engineer).

I've had a female gardener and decorator at my home and we used a female electrician where I worked.

I've also had lots of male builders, plumbers and electricians too 🤷‍♀️
