Real simple - snooped on DH phone and found a 'Wifey' saved in his contacts - he called this number unanswered a month ago but no history I can see. I called it and rang out then phoned right back. Like an idiot I hung up. Now I'm thinking I should call and find out who the Hell this is....
I'm feeling very sick and scared and just want to bury my head in the sand because I can't believe this...
I have the number. Do I call and find out or ask him first. I'm shaking.

Wifey does not just mean woman.

With the correct spelling “Wifie” it does. But as can be seen here, not everyone uses the correct spelling for it.

Apparently he has no idea who it is...call log says he called this number with no reply beginning of the month but doesnt remember. Doubt I'll ever get to the truth. Nothing in his behaviour suggests he's cheating but it gave me a horrible shock. My insecurities I will have to work on I know that. Did fess up to looking at his phone and he just gave me a massive hug.

That makes no sense. Things don’t save in your contacts automatically. You have to click several buttons to do it.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 31/05/2025 10:25

Typo for "Wilfy"?

SpunkySquid · 31/05/2025 10:26

Willyoujustbequiet · 31/05/2025 02:03

It absolutely does just mean woman in Geordie/Northumbrian/Scots.

It's roots are Anglo Saxon and it's very common usage up here.

And it’s also a slang term for girlfriend or someone you’re very close to. I don’t believe for one second no one in that part of the world has heard or used this alternate use 😂

nomas · 31/05/2025 10:27

Needsomeadvice2234 · 31/05/2025 10:06

Maybe I've missed previous, maybe he communicates through a different platform - I simply don't know. I'm not looking further at the moment. I have the number and will simply call it and ask rather than try and imagine endless scenarios. If I'm brave enough.

If a man is stupid enough to save his affair partner’s name as ‘Wifey’ on his non-password protected phone, he should be divorced for being a dumb-ass.

Yes, I'm not speculating on which version it is in this situation. I only wanted to correct the poster that said it it doesn't mean just a woman.

Well it doesn’t just mean woman, so you aren’t correcting anything. Unless the op and her other half are from some remote Scottish isle that only uses the ancient Anglo Saxon language maybe and have never heard it used in any other way 😂

Ffs. It absolutely means just woman. It's not a remote Scottish Isle thing...it's Northumbrian/Geordie/Scots common usage.

How arrogant to tell others what their own language/dialect is????

Scottish person...I'm a wifey. I used to be a lassie but now I'm a wifey. I may even be an auld wifey by now.
In Scotland it does mean 'woman'.

I agree with this. And I also think if you read the word wifey and automatically jump to "my husband is having an affair" then there are other underlying issues that need to be addressed

do you not think the OP would be aware if her husband was Scottish or had used that term before?

I'm actually not Scottish. I was more agreeing that I think the use of the word Wifey is a bit inoffensive and I wouldn't automatically jump to thinking my other half has another woman if I saw someone saved as it in his phone.

Could it be someone who put their number in his phone? Someone flirting with him when he was out somewhere busy in a group. His phone on the table. Or asked to use his phone?

Agree with @nomas you’d have to be pretty stupid to put an OW in a phone as ‘wifey’. So v unlikely. But some enamoured men can be v stupid.

Calliopespa · 31/05/2025 11:13

I’d agree I don’t think wifey is offensive but equally it doesn’t scream “ hot illicit sex” to me.

I’d think of maybe the woman at work who takes lunch/Starbucks orders or similar …

This is what I'm so afraid of. Why call this number beginning of the month? I have written the number down. I'm going send a message tomorrow. What I'm going to say I have no idea.

Op its not impossible to save someone's name that you don't actually have in your contacts. If someone sends you a contact (for what ever reason) and you save it in your contacts how ever it was sent to you unless you change it. But I doubt this is something you wouldn't remember. I think personally the name wifey would defo stand out especially if you rang it recently.

Utterknowitall · 31/05/2025 11:43

I have a theory. A lot of people who cheat have two phones. Maybe "Wifey" has two phones and one is stored under Wifey and one is stored under something else, like Steve or Alan. Maybe Wifey wasn't responding on the normal number DH uses to communicate so in desperation they rang the other number one time, to get Wifey's attention.

Butteredradish3 · 31/05/2025 11:53

On a random note I have a man’s number saved in my phone. I noticed it when I was on TikTok said people you may know via contacts. Now from his profile he lived in my old street but I have never seen or met this person. Not sure how it’s got there I mean could it be airdrop or something? I suppose it’s a bit different though as he actually called it 🤔

Cucy · 31/05/2025 12:12

Normal couples do not go through each others phones.

You must have had a gut feeling to go snooping.

What is it that makes you feel like he’s up to no good?

Your instinct is likely right because he is lying because not only has he saved this number but he’s also phoned it.
But there must be something else in his behaviour that made you suspicious in the first place.

Blueblell · 31/05/2025 12:26

Are you sure it’s not a smelly acquaintance and he has spelled it badly

planetfall · 31/05/2025 12:29

I thought that this was going to be a complaint about his having saved YOUR number in his phone as Wifey! My (admittedly ancient) mobile does its best to assign a name to any number it doesn't recognise and sometimes gets in badly wrong (most recent was a driver called Malcolm who persistently appeared as Julia).

If you're nervous about calling back, can you ask him to call the number and see who it is, just to set your mind at ease? Since he's called it before from his mobile he'll more likely get someone picking up than if you call from your unfamiliar number.

MyDeftDuck · 31/05/2025 12:31

cyvguhb · 31/05/2025 07:26

It's not 1984, you can switch your phone to hide number 😁

Well, that’s me told off then!

BobbyBiscuits · 31/05/2025 12:36

I very much doubt this person instructed him to save their number as 'wifey'? I also can't fathom why he'd name his affair partner that in his phone. It's not exactly covert is it?

You must ask him. I wouldn't assume the person on the other end is even aware they're named under that.

FloweringAnnual · 31/05/2025 12:45

Wifey is a tree surgeon. He hangs about in bowers.

MrsJJ84 · 31/05/2025 12:48

Could it be an ex from years ago still in contacts ? I have loads of old contacts on my phone that I just haven’t ever deleted

TheNinny · 31/05/2025 12:53

A work wifey?
