Is is right that an unpopular govt can reverse the democratic wishes of the UK to have nothing to do with Europe?

Granted 12 years of access to UK fishing waters without even running it by the Scottish Government!

Yup. The EU wanted ten years; we were going to offer five…..and somehow we’ve ended up with twelve. Quite the negotiator, our Kier.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 19/05/2025 12:17

No he isn't, don't be so silly.

CillaBlackSmith · 19/05/2025 12:17

As long as his changes don't jeopardise the 150 million that's now giving us a world class health service!
Oh wait a minute...

TheOnlyMrsW · 19/05/2025 12:19

Goodness I wish that he would! That's obviously not what's happening though so I can't understand why you'd actually post something so clearly untrue!

Different terms and protections. The deal is fine.

Echobelly · 19/05/2025 12:20

No he isn't, but I wish he would.

Have to laugh at the Mail et al in a ferment that we are losing 'our Brexit freedoms'... I can only guess they mean the 'freedom' for our kids not to have freedom of movement in Europe, and to be in a long passport queue 😆

Annoyeddd · 19/05/2025 12:20

I know a few people who still admit to voting for Brexit - they are members of my extended family and also vote reform (would vote bnp if still around).
Fortunately rarely need to see them

sashh · 19/05/2025 12:20

Blueflowerpower · 19/05/2025 11:35

Firstly, he isn't reversing Brexit - please inform yourself properly. And secondly, it would be a bloody good thing if he did. If the referendum were rerun remain would win just on the basis that so many who voted leave have died since the vote was held.

And those like my younger niece who was 17 could have a say.

HarrietPierce · 19/05/2025 12:21

He's not reversing it but I wish he would do so.

Saw the headline in the newsagents earlier as I was queuing and was thinking WTF 😁
what actually are our Brexit freedoms which are beneficial to us?!

BustingBaoBun · 19/05/2025 12:24

No Brexiteer can answer that. Never have. Never will.

Blue passport and...... nope that's it

MonoMono · 19/05/2025 12:24

Such a fucking stupid and completely fictitious title.

Typical Brexiter, zero knowledge of what leaving the EU involved, and what it would take to go back in which won't happen because they wouldn't want a nation of regressive idiots back

Feelingstrange2 · 19/05/2025 12:26

He's not.

Brexit was never defined and never fully sorted. The ongoing trading relationship needs constant negotiation.

Your passport will still be the new black and you wont be able to stay in the Shengen area for more than 90 days a year. Don't worry.

saraclara · 19/05/2025 12:26

Good grief. This has to be up there with the most stupid OP of the year.

I'm hoping it's just a wind up.

And stamps in your passport but that's going soon with new systems. It was the only plus I ever saw amongst a whole load of damage caused by Brexit.

thepariscrimefiles · 19/05/2025 12:26

I wish!

Anyway, you are either uninformed or ridiculous.

HarrietBond · 19/05/2025 12:28

Oioisavaloy27 · 19/05/2025 12:15

Also many people know now that Brexit was built on lies, we have not gained but lost a lot from leaving. And this is why I can't understand why people are voting for Fartage.

Edited

Because he is great at creating a narrative that sounds really clear even if it is untrue - Brexit has failed because the people in charge (don't forget the elites) let it fail.

And if Reform gets into any sort of power and, inevitably, fails to deliver all its unrealistic promises, that will also be the fault of the elites. So people get even angrier that Reform are being thwarted. It's an unfightable story.

Why is it a plus?

It's a total minus with me because I travel a lot and I might well have to get a new passport before it runs out because I'm running out of pages

Echobelly · 19/05/2025 12:29

I mean the whole Brexit Betrayal narrative is to try to get the billionaires' pal Nigel in number 10, not that he needs much help with Labour enacting the horrors of Reform style politics without even the integrity of believing in it

Nothankyov · 19/05/2025 12:29

@TheQuirkyMaker - I think the more important question here would be why wouldn’t you want to have anything to do with Europe? And by Europe I take it you mean the European Union as the UK is part of Europe. That’s a bizarre point of you. The EU is a huge trading block and countries within it hold the oldest alliances with the UK. We share similar values and hold the democratic process as a way of providing a fairer way of living for its people. It’s bizarre to me to think that the UK shouldn’t have anything to do with the EU.

Fangisnotacoward · 19/05/2025 12:29

I heard Reform saying this morning that this deal was taking away the benefits of Brexit. I'm still genuinely waiting to find out what these were...

spoonbillstretford · 19/05/2025 12:29

Where did you get the idea that the EU wanted ten years?

The EU wanted indefinite access.

The old agreement involved access til 2026 then rolling one year negotiations on access.

wonkylegs · 19/05/2025 12:31

Well he’s not but don’t let that stop you getting hysterical
He is not rejoining the EU, he is coming to agreements with the EU about better working relationships between us & them - as was in the Labour manifesto
Seeing that the previous government generally tended to discuss serious stuff with the EU by telling them to FO, it’s great to see some actual grown up discourse & negotiation, we cannot exist in isolation despite what some nutters think.
It was always needed but with the current worldwide political climate it’s especially welcome.
