TheQuirkyMaker · 19/05/2025 11:27

Is is right that an unpopular govt can reverse the democratic wishes of the UK to have nothing to do with Europe?

Aren't you embarrassed by typing out such shite?

No.

Are you?

countrygirl99 · 19/05/2025 12:36

A lot of people like seeing the stamps in their passport and it's fairly unusual to run out of pages.

What a marvellous Brexit benefit! (not!)

If you go back and forward to Europe all the stamps look the same and just take up room.

ilovesooty · 19/05/2025 12:49

Oioisavaloy27 · 19/05/2025 12:15

Also many people know now that Brexit was built on lies, we have not gained but lost a lot from leaving. And this is why I can't understand why people are voting for Fartage.

Edited

Because Farage has convinced them that Brexit hasn't been done properly 🙄

Catsandcheese · 19/05/2025 12:50

It’s really good news for a change. We need to work with our closest neighbours in this increasingly uncertain world. I am happy that the grown ups are back in charge.

if you travel for leisure and you want a keepsake stamp - sure. DH travels for work frequently and the delays are a big nuisance. Definitely not worth the stamp.

Where on the brexit voting form did it say that the options were "Stay in the EU" and "Have nothing to do with Europe"?

Exactly- nothing to do with Europe - guess it’s a giant tug boat to move us to a different continent. Somewhere with warmer weather perhaps?

PoppyFleur · 19/05/2025 12:52

ExtraOnions · 19/05/2025 12:06

The Domestic Fishing Industry has already been decimated

Apart from anything else, Fishing equates to 0.04% of GDP - why would we build an economic policy on an Industry that brings so little to the table ?

Exactly! Well said @ExtraOnions

FrippEnos · 19/05/2025 12:54

Has anybody got a link to the whole deal instead of these inane sound bites?

Me too. The stupidest thing ever

Hear, hear.

Lemmings. Trouble is, they dragged the rest of us over the cliff with them.

Details are still being announced though. Fishing rights remain as they are, with an annual review of quotas and licences.

A new agreement setting out post-Brexit relations on areas including fishing rights, trade and defence has been reached.

He's not but I wish he was.

thepariscrimefiles · 19/05/2025 13:01

Where did it say on the ballot paper that leaving meant 'having nothing to do with Europe'? What does that even mean? That we pretend that Europe doesn't exist? That we never work together on policies such as the ones relating to Ukraine? That we're not allowed to set foor in Europe or allow any Europeans to set foot in the UK? That we don't export any food or goods to Europe and don't import any food and goods from Europe? Banning the teaching of European languages in schools and Universities?

ilovesooty · 19/05/2025 13:02

I see the OP hasn't returned. Unsurprisingly.

Deerrobin · 19/05/2025 13:08
  1. Brexit has (sadly) not been reversed

  2. There was never a vote to ‘have nothing to do with Europe’

  3. Labour was democratically elected on a manifesto which included revisiting our relationship with Europe and seeking closer ties

  4. Stop listening to the rabid ramblings of the biased UK media serving their right wing paymasters

Yet we all bite over and over again.

HarrietBond · 19/05/2025 13:09

The details being announced suggests that EU markets will be open to British shellfish again, reversing the existing ban. That will mitigate some of the economic damage on the sector since that was closed off.

inkognithia · 19/05/2025 13:11

What's perhaps more concerning is that both Farage and Badenoch have said they'll tear up the agreement if they get into power.

Putting aside their obvious dog whistles, it does remain a concern and one which must have already occurred to those drafting this deal.
I'll be very interested in seeing what, if any, rules are put into place to prevent this agreement being rendered null and void if (when?) the lunatics take over the asylum.

Ginmonkeyagain · 19/05/2025 13:11

I love that the OP thought a vote to leave the EU meant "having nothing to do with Europe". Some people really work very hard at being absolute oceon going morons don't they?

PlutoCat · 19/05/2025 13:13

WhoDatDen · 19/05/2025 12:34

Starmer's had enough. He wants Reform to take over and can't wait 4 years. This is now the start of his fast track procedures to get those keys to No. 10 into Nige's hands.

Eh? You think Starmer's going to call a snap GE?

Dream on!

ilovesooty · 19/05/2025 13:13

Locutus2000 · 19/05/2025 13:08

Yet we all bite over and over again.

I admit I do. I will never forgive Cameron for his misguided attempt to placate UKIP, the government's poor Remain campaign then running away from the mess he created, Farage and Johnson for their self serving lies and the people who voted to leave and continue to double down on it and support Reform.

Gardengirl108 · 19/05/2025 12:04

You literally said exactly what I came to say 👍

Exactly. I think we’d have trouble trying to leave the continent of Europe..

They do, and I used to feel the same way. I'll be the first to admit that watching Brexit unfold was like watching my library being burnt down by people who couldn't read, but these days - whilst I absolutely have not forgiven the breathing taking imbecility of the referendum - I try to be a little kinder toward those who voted in favour of imposing economic sanctions on ourselves.

I think education can go a lot further than condemnation.

Given how Brexiteers were desperate to go back to blue passports, and then they had the shock of their lives when they had to queue for hours at airports, when EU members sailed through with no queueing.... that might not be so easy. Especially given it looks like from October, we will be able to go through EU electronic gates and not queue again for stamping of passport.

Whammyyammy · 19/05/2025 13:14

BustingBaoBun · 19/05/2025 12:28

Why is it a plus?

It's a total minus with me because I travel a lot and I might well have to get a new passport before it runs out because I'm running out of pages

And me. I buy the passport with more pages and have come close. Luckily the U.S are stopping the stamps in most states.
