To think I've peaked after spotting three celebs in one day??!

On a work trip to London today. I spotted:

Hugo Taylor (MIC OG) this morning on the street near Liverpool Street station

James Acaster (comedian) coming out of Liverpool Street station at the end of the working day, AND

(Most excitingly for me) Marina Hyde with her husband, running for a train at Paddington Station!

I’m not even a massive celeb-spotter usually, but this was a personal record. AIBU to think this is peak and it’s all downhill from here?

Can anyone beat that? What's your best day of unexpected celeb sightings?

Just remembered another one. Was sitting in an aisle seat in the stalls waiting for a play to start when I looked up and to my surprise saw Ben Elton (it was one of his plays) bearing down on me with his arms held wide for a hug and a huge welcoming grin on his face. Turned out he was heading for Kenneth Branagh in the seat behind me.

I spotted two celebs in one day at Heathrow, T4. Rhod Gilbert and I crossed paths in the shopping area (I smiled politely and he looked nervous) and this is the big one Helen Mirren came and sat next to DH in the BA Club lounge.
I sat opposite and saw her very clearly. She was tanned and wearing a coral peasant style dress, knee length, with the most gorgeous gladiator style heels and her hair was beautifully cut - short, swingy and very chic.
Her husband went off to get some drinks and an American woman came up and plonked herself in his seat. She was very gushy and I felt quite sorry for Dame Helen. The woman didn't move and HM had to tell her she was sitting in someone's (her DH) seat as he returned.
I was being very British and pretending not to notice her. The thing is, DH was immersed behind his paper and really did not recognise her, but did notice the fabulous shoes.
When we got on the plane she was just a couple of rows from us and one of our friends travelling with us (they weren't in the lounge) also saw her and whispered to me 'wow - clock the rock!' - at the very impressive diamond ring she was wearing.

My personal best is two. Sat opposite Tamsin Greig on the tube and then about an hour later, on the next table to Bill Nighy for breakfast. My (then) H's friend who we were staying with is very rich and although he had a lot of famous neighbours, we didnt see any of them!

If you take a walk through Edinburgh during the Festival period, you’ll almost certainly encounter several mid-level celebs. They’re usually shorter than you’d think.

Yes, I think Edinburgh during August is cheating. Although I once saw Billy Connolly and Pamela Stephenson at the Book Festival (neither of them was appearing) and he was taller than I expected.

EconomyClassRockstar · 16/05/2025 01:44

My favourite celeb spot was when Travis Scott and Kylie Jenner were very publicly staying in a hotel in NYC. Except, in reality, he was staying in a completely different hotel in a suite next to ours, with a woman who was very much not Kylie Jenner.

Ok so Rolf Harris aside, I have googled them and still not really any the wiser.

They’re barely ‘celebs’ - I mean Marina brings up ‘Guardian columnist’ which is not really celebrity status is it - especially with the absolute shite they’ve been writing recently.

Marina Hyde is the best thing in the Guardian by a country mile.

OK, Helen Mirren is a VERY good one! I'd have been happy with Rhod Gilbert too!

That’s a weird mix of people at a party

It wasn’t a social party.

NorthernLights5 · 16/05/2025 08:08

Years ago I saw a winner of masterchef when I worked in waitrose in York...does that count 😂

He’s a massive TRA. Thinks women should shut the fuck up as blokes dressed as women are the most vulnerable people in the world. Did a whole sketch about how disgusting Ricky Gervais is for standing up for women.

I used to love him and cried laughing at the conga skit but it’s ruined now.

Oh. Well, that's...disappointing.

Just remembered being in McDonalds with Billy Connolly, it was years ago now. In Windsor. Saw him in LA years ago too, at Universal Studios, I googled where he lived at the time and it was right next door to the studios, on a hill overlooking it 😀

DonaldJohnTrump · 16/05/2025 08:59

I saw Donald Trump - I've got a bigly mirror. He even spoke to me!

DelboytrottersDnecklace · 16/05/2025 09:21

I was once at work (at a maccies between york and leeds),totally boring day and minding my own business when the bloke who played les Battersby in corrie walked in (this was years and years after he'd left)

He walked in,full of himself and very 'yes luvvies!it's meeeeee!'

I didn't have a clue who he was until my manager told me!

Nobody was that fussed and he left after a few minutes

x2boys · 16/05/2025 09:22

I have seen a few of the corrie, cast in Manchester ,and the Trafford centre at various times
And once spotted Sanjay from Eastenders, in a night club in Bolton which was bizarre
Jason and Laura Kenney came to open my sons school.Xmas fair a few years sgo, s it was Jason's old primary school
The weirdest one was on mothers day last year I was in a restaurant with my mum and sister and I spotted someone, who always appears as a body language expert on true crime programme,s ,I excitedly, told my sister as I'm a big fan of true crime and she had no.idea who he was 🙄

Gettingbysomehow · 16/05/2025 10:23

The queen mother came to my primary school, my nemesis was chosen to give her the flowers and I was pissed all year.
Then later on I met Bill Oddie who was horrible.
You don't see many celebs in rural Somerset so I haven't seen any lately.

Bogfrog · 16/05/2025 10:27

So surprised people don’t know James Acaster

Bogfrog · 16/05/2025 10:32

healthybychristmas · 15/05/2025 23:11

Same here. Started shouting about terfs and Karens and how men can be women just as much as women can be women. Absolute bollocks.

I had no idea about his views, so disappointed. Thank goodness for Gervais.

In the 90’s I worked at Sound Republic in Leicester Square where they filmed MTV and the chart show. I remember one afternoon we had Westlife, The Beautiful South, Charlene Spiteri, Depeche Mode, Emma Bunton, Steps, Suggs, E17 and Suede in the restaurant. I even had a cheeky snog with one of them - I’ll leave that up in the air there…!!

Dave Gahan? 😍

Tiddlersfish · 16/05/2025 10:49

I live quite close to Diversity’s studio so see them fairly often locally.
Was sat opposite Billie Piper and Chris Evans at Typhoon Lagoon in Florida in 2001, they were both lovely.
Had a panic attack on the tube whilst sat next to Josh Widdecombe once too - that was a bizarre experience, everytime I see him on TV now I get flashbacks!

KimberleyClark · 16/05/2025 11:01

One for Trekkies. Went to a convention, met George Takei, Marina Sirtis, Garrett Wang, Kate Mulgrew, John Billingsley.

I can see you wouldn't be able to look at Josh Widdicombe without flashbacks - hope they're not too distressing for you. Did he take any notice of what was going on or look out for you in any way?

No he was very engrossed in his book! Not that I’d have expected him too, DH was patiently waiting for the tube to stop so we could get off for some air, once I’d calmed down I was more annoyed that my claustrophobia had stopped me from having a chat 😂

NotDarkGothicMama · 16/05/2025 11:15

My celebrity spots are Helen Glover and Steve Backshall with their kids at Whipsnade Zoo and Germaine Greer at a London pub. The HG/SB one was a bit awkward because DS was massively starstruck and we kept trying to take a different route to them to give them space, but somehow kept ending up in the same spots with DS gawping. Steve was lovely and said hello to DS, who was so overcome that he accidentally called him Simon 🤦‍♀️

Heylittlesongbird · 16/05/2025 11:18

An ex footballer called Matt Le Tissier was at my son’s football tournament. This meant nothing to me, but all the boys were having photos with him so I got one.
Later some of the parents on Facebook and WhatsApp were really excited because they thought they’d been photographed with Phil Tuffnell 😂
I wasn’t going to be the one to tell them!

KimberleyClark · 16/05/2025 11:22

Saw Monty Don in the BA Club lounge. He got on the same flight as we did, to Athens, and then a few days later saw him again. We’d gone on a day trip to Hydra and were sitting outside a bar on th3 harbour and saw him again walking past us with his wife.
