Is this an awful wedding guest dress?!

Looking for opinions! I'm a mum of 2 little children and rarely go to events anymore, both children under 4, size 14-16, 5.3 and wanted something that hid my legs and tops of arms and skimmed over tummy so that I felt slightly more comfortable. I've always had reasonable success with Monsoon dresses and found this in the sale. I've been told by brides friends to all send photos of our outfits (unsure why!) And that I cannot wear this and will upstage her. I asked if it was anything like her dress and they said not even remotely close! I read all the reviews before purchasing and most have worn this dress as a wedding guest! Is it my poor taste?!

I find it odd as a guest you have to send a pic of what you’re wearing, why has the bride not just said to people not to wear a certain colour.

What happened to guests just turning up at a wedding and having a nice time? In whatever outfit they wanted to.

You've been told not to wear it. You don't wear it.

They'll tell you that a white veil and a sparkly white dress isn't bridal on this site, they really really (really) hate women having their own way on their wedding day, it's a real theme on mumsnet.

The answer to your question, to be clear is YES it is a bit bridal/bridal party.

And NO it is not overtly so and you could have worn it and nobody would have thought much of it as it is not overtly trying to upstage the bride.

But you have been told not to wear it, so that's that.

Now your option is to decline the invitation or wear something else.

I know you want everyone to tell you she's Bridezilla - and maybe she is - but so what? It's not your wedding, no need to make a drama out of a nothingburger.

If you don't want to be the centre of attention, as you claim, don't make a fuss about a stupid dress.

Yes, I agree that it is not a great trend. But the onus is on the guests just to decline invitations, as long as everyone goes along with these demands they will continue to be made. Brides can demand anything they want on their own wedding day - our option is to politely decline the invitation.

People are always claiming normal, standard things are new behaviours on this site - but I have to admit I never knew of anyone at all being asked to run their guest outfits past the bridal party pre internet.

I don't really like it, too nightdressy, but that is just my taste and if you feel good in it you should wear it. I am also not into this idea of wearing full length dresses during the day, apart from bride and bridesmaids. I like the idea of sending a picture of something wild, a bodycon mini with cutouts or something!

I imagine the wedding has been and gone!
