To not understand why Farage needs to be so smug and flippant about people losing their job?

Just seen reports of the speech in which Nigel Farage tells council staff who are employed on DEI initiatives and climate change to “find new careers”.

I get Reform view these things as a waste of public money, and if they’ve been democratically elected on that mandate, then those departments will be cut.

However, whatever you think of those departments, the people he’s talking about are about to lose their livelihoods. They’ll have bills and families. I’m not saying that means they’re immune to cuts or they shouldn’t lose their jobs. I just don’t know why he feels the need to be so shitty about it.

They won't lose their jobs because they dont exist. He's talking crap. Someone does it as well as their main job. Just like the real DOGE, his nonsense will hardly save any money at all. All Doge has done is sack people so theyve had to close the National Parks Service, lose tourist money and discreetly hire everyone back again. They'll need to be cutting adult social càre or children's services to save money. I wonder how popular that will be?

Well they won’t lose their jobs will they, because councils will still have a duty to deliver on those things, as well as everything that goes along with them, like schemes to help address fuel poverty, waste management, community development, planning etc.

He doesn't have the power to sack people. We have employment laws and unions in this country. I wonder how many of those people he is threatening to sack voted Reform.

He’s winding up the MSM & the liberal left. He knows exactly what he’s doing. And they fall for it every single time. And the more they call him a ‘Poundland Trump’ the more he knows his message is cutting through. As yesterday’s election results demonstrated.

But there was a pathetic turnout - only 36.2% in my area. Reform got all their supporters out to vote and the people who couldn't be bothered bear a lot of the blame. I believe voting should be compulsory.

He has seen how the same messages have garnered support for Trump and thinks that will work here.

Unfortunately, his supporters are too stupid to realise that he is talking utter bollocks, he won't be able to sack anyone, because Councils have statutory duties to provide services and we have employment laws in this country.

It's all bluster from a man who should probably take a long hard look in the mirror, given how little time he has spent in his Clapham constituency since being elected.

Feel sorry for those in Reform-run councils who will have to put up with his Trump-esque experiments. Hopefully they will prove as unpopular as Trump's and wipe Reform off the electoral map for future elections.

I haven’t heard his speech but recently the gov did similar with talks of ‘bloat’ and cutting jobs.

These new Reform councillors are going to get one hell of a shock when they discover how much it costs to make people redundant.

I said similar earlier today.

I feel bad for the people living in the area but I sincerely hope that Reform run that council into the ground, that they bankrupt it, massively fuck up services, mismanage the whole lot, and basically preside over such a cluster fuck that they will forever be synonymous with the term. That way, people might think twice about voting for them at the next GE.

He'll never be PM thankfully, but I am worried about the increasing levels of support that Reform are getting.

There's a difference between scaling back based on workload, sustainability, necessity, etc and cutting things like diversity and inclusion simply to suit a far-right ideology.
