To not understand why Farage needs to be so smug and flippant about people losing their job?

Just seen reports of the speech in which Nigel Farage tells council staff who are employed on DEI initiatives and climate change to “find new careers”.

I get Reform view these things as a waste of public money, and if they’ve been democratically elected on that mandate, then those departments will be cut.

However, whatever you think of those departments, the people he’s talking about are about to lose their livelihoods. They’ll have bills and families. I’m not saying that means they’re immune to cuts or they shouldn’t lose their jobs. I just don’t know why he feels the need to be so shitty about it.

You lost me when you used the word Deform to describe people you don't like.

The juvenile name-calling is prevalent on all sides. Another depressing import from the US.

That's the worst I've seen, but all the intentional misspellings are puerile whether Zalanski or the Daily Fail.

Problem is that the change Reform advertise isn’t exactly detailed or costed is it?

Just like Brexit all over again.

Their 'contract' is a wishlist promising everything to everyone. That bit's easy.

He’s just a Poundland Trump.

He is anything BUT Poundland!

And as I've explained, and is actually quite clear, I've used it to describe the intent of the party, not the people who support the party. The word is an antonym of Reform - in my view, an accurate description.

It's an antonym, not an intentional misspelling. An accurate one at that. They have no intention of reforming anything - their intention is to tear apart, ruin and divide. That people are voting for them speaks more about how disaffected and disillusioned they've become. But this is not the answer.

That’s right. How astute you are. 🙄

A trifle idle, no?

Those sorts of roles are pure grift, so I’d say those people have had their snouts in the public money trough for long enough.

Time they learnt to code!

They play a significant role in protecting councils from claims of discrimination by ensuring that councils' policies and procedures don't unintentionally discriminate against minority groups.

I'd say that's pretty significant. The costs of getting involved in a discrimination case would be far more than an equalities adviser's salary.

Not really. In order to search for something you need to be given a hint as to what you’re searching for.

ItisIbeserk · 03/05/2025 17:36

Well, to be fair, ‘Supreme Court Equality Act case’ would have done the trick.

Crikeyalmighty · 03/05/2025 17:39

As someone on a letter to the Times today’s ‘ A man who has the answer to everything and a solution for nothing’ -

do people not actually look at who they are voting for in local elections - it’s not Farage, it’s a bunch of weirdos who would struggle to get a job in the real world- I’m happy to take bets they will be lousy and no actual improvements locally whatsoever. still they hate anyone non white, think white van man rules and we should all be arrested for not supporting frequent flag flying , not watching Engerland or singing God save the King- problem is though a great deal of the population do indeed think like this, see no issue with being a bit of a conman and would be more than happy with Trump like behaviour pissing on others strawberries , so long as it didn’t affect them or their wallet!!

Elections weren't held in my area but our local Reform candidate tried to stand as an MP for the Conservative Party at the last election but was forced to withdraw due to some undisclosed murky incidents in his background. Not even good enough for the Tories who were desperate for candidates at the last election but fine for Reform!

Crikeyalmighty · 03/05/2025 17:54

@lavenderlou indeed - they attract a ton of losers and oddballs but it seems no one cares because plenty of the voters don’t care either. I really do despair - we came back from Denmark 3 years ago but if they get a sniff of power we have already said we are off - and can do this too - I’m sure their voters would say ‘good riddance’ anyway - you will end up with a to. Of reasonable tax payers and decent businesses leaving if necessary via the ‘nomad visa scheme’ for those who don’t need to physically work in that country

hungryhippo · 03/05/2025 18:50

I work for a county council. There are 3 employees whose job title includes EDI as part of a much bigger HR team. It won’t save a lot of money even if they do go, however it probably will make the council re-focus on what its statutory duties are. Following the Public Sector Equality Duty is a statutory obligation. Sending out emails that focus heavily on “trans rights” and contain lies about what the Equality Act says to the detriment of women, is not. The amount of public money given to Stonewall will also hopefully reduce.

Lucy Powell, the Labour Cabinet minister, is facing calls to resign after dismissing the grooming gangs scandal as a “dog whistle” issue.

DISGRACEFUL.

Clip of Lucy Powell dog whistle speech.

Sons partner grew up in W Yorkshire, went to university there. They all knew to warn their daughters about these grooming gangs years ago. It wasn't a secret in the communities.

Was starmer smug and flippant?

No he was bumbling and ineffective....hence why he made sure his "safe" councils were removed from the vote. He was fucking smug when he was and please please defend the Rayner "Tory scum " quite or Lucy Powell's response to being asked about hundreds of young girls being reaped

Can you genuinely not see the difference between Labour's cull and Reform's cull? My previous point proven.

No actually I can't. When 16% of white working class boys go to university and 32% of black working class boys go and nothing is being done to address that issue by councils then what are their inclusive team doing?

btw when black working class boys get to uni, they do over 50% worse than all other students...thankfully the universities are tackling that issue as it's with their power to do so

I don’t think that’s quite true so I’d be interested to see where you got those figures. 73% of UK students are white.

You didn’t answer if you’d be ok being described as bloat, with the intention of getting rid of your job

Good lord eastern

ok, I wouldn’t be described as bloat…the council i work for would be described as bloated, as I said earlier but you may have missed

bloated is a very well known term…its not an personal insult

if he described the department i work for as ‘bloated’ and made redundancies then for various personal reasons I would be fine with it

other members of staff would probably upset to lose their jobs but they would not be offended by the bloat comment as its used to describe departments/councils/etc NOT people or they jobs

this is fuck all to do with the fact that saying a department is bloated is not being smug or Flippant fucking Farrage was absolutely delighted at the idea that WFH people would have to find another job

starmer was not absolutely delighted when he said there would be cutbacks to the ‘bloated’ civil service

now to make things very clear I am not a labour voter

farage was flippant and smug and starmer was not….thats absolutely all I said,

ya good?

RufustheFactuaIReindeer · 05/05/2025 17:41

Their jobs…fuck my life 😒
