To not understand why Farage needs to be so smug and flippant about people losing their job?

Just seen reports of the speech in which Nigel Farage tells council staff who are employed on DEI initiatives and climate change to “find new careers”.

I get Reform view these things as a waste of public money, and if they’ve been democratically elected on that mandate, then those departments will be cut.

However, whatever you think of those departments, the people he’s talking about are about to lose their livelihoods. They’ll have bills and families. I’m not saying that means they’re immune to cuts or they shouldn’t lose their jobs. I just don’t know why he feels the need to be so shitty about it.

I find it interesting that a number of posters continue to focus on Farage’s supposed lack of humility, and yet they fail to address the underlying cause of Reform’s success.

Rather strikes me as a case of playing the man or woman, rather than the ball.

By all means, crack on with that approach - it almost guarantees Labour will prove a one-term calamity.

They play a significant role in protecting councils from claims of discrimination by ensuring that councils' policies and procedures don't unintentionally discriminate against minority groups.

I'd say that's pretty significant. The costs of getting involved in a discrimination case would be far more than an equalities adviser's salary.

That’s not what dei officers do. In fact they often create claims eg the person in sandy Peggie’s case

No actually I can't. When 16% of white working class boys go to university and 32% of black working class boys go and nothing is being done to address that issue by councils then what are their inclusive team doing?

btw when black working class boys get to uni, they do over 50% worse than all other students...thankfully the universities are tackling that issue as it's with their power to do so

Careers teams were decimated by the Tories during austerity and have never recovered. In my experience what’s left is very focused on young people with SEND, and care leavers, because limited resources leave not much else for other groups. I’d love to see some
reinvestment in careers services in local government.
