To not understand why Farage needs to be so smug and flippant about people losing their job?

LegUcler · 02/05/2025 20:25

Just seen reports of the speech in which Nigel Farage tells council staff who are employed on DEI initiatives and climate change to “find new careers”.

I get Reform view these things as a waste of public money, and if they’ve been democratically elected on that mandate, then those departments will be cut.

However, whatever you think of those departments, the people he’s talking about are about to lose their livelihoods. They’ll have bills and families. I’m not saying that means they’re immune to cuts or they shouldn’t lose their jobs. I just don’t know why he feels the need to be so shitty about it.

Bloat is bad, or are you ok with that?

You’d sound like a medical problem to be got rid of.

Its a perfectly normal phrase to describe an organisation that is too big

but the thread is about how farage was smug and flippant

which he was…and starmer wasnt 🤷🏻

A major thing is that when you write things like this you exacerbate the problem.

Calling people stupid has the complete opposite effect. Just like Brexit, complaceny massively set in and rather than any attempt to campaign for their side they just called everyone else fucking idiots.

I believe that those who think they are better than the idiots are actually the biggest threat to themselves.

Exactly. The working class are sick of being done over and sneered at. I don’t vote reform but I’m sick of people sneering at those who do.

No3392 · 02/05/2025 22:54

So glad my area wasn't voting yesterday, as we would have absolutely ended up reform!

I'm so sorry to those who have ended up with reform, but didn't vote for them.

I understand that we're all pissed off to the hilt, but this isn't the answer!

My LA has put on huge amounts of training from the likes of Stonewall, Mermaids and other external consultants charging £££

We just got a message from the leader saying how worrying the recent Supreme Court judgement was and how they were proud to see and support all the LGBTQIA+ staff. But obviously the rights of women weren't mentioned 🙄

The person who gave the advice to ignore sandy peggies rights in favor of male drs who wanted to watch her get changed was a highly paid but unqualified DEI officer. Pretending they don’t exist is silly- they do. Of course we shouldn’t discriminate and obey the law but these dei people aren’t doing anything useful

HoskinsChoice · 02/05/2025 22:59

You are possibly right as the stupid are generally too stupid to understand they are stupid. So by telling them they're stupid they'll probably just dig their heels in. Doesn't mean they're not stupid though.

Although to give the stupid a little bit of credit, even the stupid brexit voters are starting to realise they were stupid. So maybe there is some hope...

Do you mean the harassment and terrible atmosphere for immigrants in the UK which has led to record high levels of immigration to the UK?

Or do you mean the anti Semitism of senior members of the Labour party after Brexit?

No I mean the harassment of Polish families being told to 'go home' immediately after the vote and of non-white people who were nothing to do with Brexit anyway

socialdilemmawhattodo · 02/05/2025 23:14

MugsyBalonz · 02/05/2025 21:10

I said similar earlier today.

I feel bad for the people living in the area but I sincerely hope that Reform run that council into the ground, that they bankrupt it, massively fuck up services, mismanage the whole lot, and basically preside over such a cluster fuck that they will forever be synonymous with the term. That way, people might think twice about voting for them at the next GE.

Your post reveals ignorance. I live in Kent. Kent taxpayers have borne a large disproportionate financial burden of illegal immigration as any monies passed from central to local govt is not sufficient, if ever paid. Kent had to threaten to sue to get some of it paid. KCC have had to close schemes for unaccompanied under-18s several times over the last years as the support is not there or sufficient. The under-18s require resource to support at an individual level for many years. Kent has high social issues/deprivation caused by the loss of our industries leaving East and north Kent very vulnerable to influence. The impact of Brexit and the withdrawal of Eurostar services from the county had a high economic and social impact. In addition Kent is the single largest education authority, so the support required, quite rightly, for SEN students is high. All of this has been repeatedly communicated to both Tory and the current Labour administrations. They both chose to ignore the problems. I didnt vote Reform and never will; neither will i vote Green or LibDem. But in this county with all those longstanding issues I don't think it is surprising that many did.

He's working on that though. People can't see why he is so dangerous. They will vote him in at the general election unless the next few years are a disaster.

They'll vote him in anyway. If the councils they ruin (meant to be run, but I'm leaving the autocorrect) are all bankrupt and vulnerable people are dying, people will still vote for him. Because somehow it will all be the fault of immigrants and asylum seekers.

Livelovebehappy · 02/05/2025 23:19

CaptainMyCaptain · 02/05/2025 20:56

But there was a pathetic turnout - only 36.2% in my area. Reform got all their supporters out to vote and the people who couldn't be bothered bear a lot of the blame. I believe voting should be compulsory.

Edited

Maybe the ones who didn't turn out didnt like any of the parties standing. A lot of people now don't have a party they respect. They're all pretty grim. So who do you suggest they should be forced to vote for when no party actually represents their beliefs snd values?

Tryingtokeepgoing · 02/05/2025 23:19

The man’s an idiot. I can’t imagine who’d actually vote for his party, other than people who don’t understand. But then Reeves and Starmer don’t seem to care much about people’s jobs either and people voted for them…

EilonwyWithRedGoldHair · 02/05/2025 23:21

OonaStubbs · 02/05/2025 21:52

There are a lot of people working in the public sector whose jobs provide little to no value for the paying public. It's good that they should fear losing their jobs. The gravy train is over.

So you are happy that people who have applied for jobs that have been advertised and done well enough at interview to be employed are now going to be unemployed where you'll presumably criticise them for being on benefits?

I get not liking certain jobs and thinking they shouldn't exist, but do you have to get such pleasure from people being made redundant with all the stress and anxiety that causes? It's a fucking shitty situation to be in, especially with the job market as it is at the moment.

PickAChew · 02/05/2025 23:23

He's a fucking nasty scumbag reading straight from the MAGA script book.

He's not going to find the thousands of "DEI" workers he thinks he will in Durham County Council. Unless he considers boring, everyday council stuff like planning, waste, transport and children's services to be "DEI".

Feel sorry for those in Reform-run councils who will have to put up with his Trump-esque experiments. Hopefully they will prove as unpopular as Trump's and wipe Reform off the electoral map for future elections.

Yes probably a blessing as people will see who they really are by their actions and enough time to truly cock things up at the various councils before the next election.

if I was in one of constituencies, I would be writing to them in a few weeks asking if they had fixed the pot holes yet and could they reduce the council tax.

He'll never be PM thankfully, but I am worried about the increasing levels of support that Reform are getting.

Are you sure about that?

I'm not.

They do exist, we have one in our organisation.

Not an entire department, though, and I'm assuming that you're not a county council.

I personally voted remain and am a strong supporter of free trade and the eu. That said, of course there are disadvantages to the eu. Calling everyone who voted leave, stupid is sneering

Because he is a cunt of the first order.

Because what he actually wants is people showing up on a Monday to see if they have any work that week. And no paid sick leave, annual leave or anything. They like the idea of the privileged few owning everything and the rest of us just living to work all the hours for a few scraps.

They won't lose their jobs because they dont exist. He's talking crap. Someone does it as well as their main job. Just like the real DOGE, his nonsense will hardly save any money at all. All Doge has done is sack people so theyve had to close the National Parks Service, lose tourist money and discreetly hire everyone back again. They'll need to be cutting adult social càre or children's services to save money. I wonder how popular that will be?

There is no such thing as "DEI' in the UK. Farage is completely obsessed with the USA. I wonder when was the last time he did a surgery in Clacton for his constituents?
