Why are Kneecap not in prison?

1000 replies

BlossomBlanket · 29/04/2025 19:49

But Lucy Connelly is? Kneecap told people to kill their MPs. Why have they not been arrested.

(To be very clear, I do not condone violence of any kind towards anyone, I'm just asking as this seems like a double standard, can someone explain?)

I will put again what I always put about Palestine:

At the time Palestine was annexed, the world was in turmoil. It was post WW2, 80 million people had been killed, many countries levelled in bombing campaigns, the nukes had been dropped, borders rearranged and territories reshaped, and millions of Jews displaced having watched their loved ones die the most horrific deaths in concentration camps. While what happened in Palestine was not good - land grabs never are - they are far from the only people to be suffering due to global events at that time: and in the scheme of things their suffering was not on the scale of many other countries. Germany had its borders redefined, as did Eastern Europe, Russia, and there were many micro wars over this period resulting in new territories and loss of the old ones. None of it was fair. But it wasn’t a fair time - on anybody. The only way forwards was to accept the changes and accept nobody was in the position they had prior to the war starting. But Palestine is the only issue that still rumbles on and is viewed as uniquely unfair, to the extent events like October 2023 can be carried out and the brainless ‘power-fighting, anti-imperialist’ blue hairs shrug their shoulders and say ‘but Colonialism…’. Jewish people’s lives are seen as cheap, and theirs is the only form of ‘invalid’ inter generational trauma despite the fact what happened to them was uniquely evil in both manner and scale. Not all suffering is equal even if we try to make it as such, and while I think Netanyahu should be put on trial ASAP as war crimes have clearly been committed (and I have no issue saying that), the slightly unintelligent lefty rent-a-mob types have become nothing but useful idiots for oppressive regimes who would probably execute them in the blink of an eye if given the option. Thank Christ there are intelligent people running the show who won’t bend the knee to this kind of simplistic, self defeating thinking.

Yes. I am from a “soft nationalist” catholic background and recognise everything you say. English people with Irish or northern Irish family absolutely love telling us “how it is”. And to “get over the past”. It’s not the past. We live in it. We know this. Take your colonisers hat off and stop telling us about our own lives because you spent some summers in Portrush in the 90s.

agree kneecap are young, stupid, polemicists.

Tbf the Irish were heavily involved in the British Empire and some of its worst atrocities.

It's perfectly possible to have been colonised and yet be colonisers.

Yes and it’s well within your control to un-partition it. The GF agreement is explicit that a referendum must be held, in conjunction with the Republic, if it looks like there is majority support for reunification and leaving the UK.

So, although you were oppressed in history, and there’s no doubt about that - you’re not any more. Ireland is free to do as it wishes. Rightly so.

Yes and it’s well within your control to un-partition it.

Well aware of the GFA thanks. Live in the real world though so also aware that things are never that easy and straight forward as just un-partitioning it 🙄

You’re supporting terrorism. The only genocide in Israel is that perpetrated by hamas.

you rely on the government to protect you against people like hamas and the IRA yet you support the terrorists because you think it’s cool and you know you’re safe thanks to the sacrifice of others. It’s pathetic

Lucy Connelly is the outlier not Kneecap. It isn’t usual to be arrested for saying something stupid, unless there’s good reason to think you are seriously trying to incite violence and have enough of an audience to succeed.

Lucy Connelly doesn’t score on either count and Kneecap only on the latter.

None of them should be in prison.

This

ColadhSamh · 30/04/2025 10:21

Why did the comments of a female politician (Jess Phillips) stating she would stab her party leader in the front not create a similar backlash against her?

No such outrage when British soldiers were pictured in Afghanistan in a 'firing party' pose in front of a mock up of a British party leader, Jeremy Corbyn.

A national 'newspaper' columnist with 200k followers on twitter writing an article with a caption of Jeremy Corbyn in a coffin with the headline 'Labour must kill vampire Jezza'. Barely a murmur.
Frank Hester, huge Tory party donor and his comments on Diane Abbott. Still embraced by Tories.

The Liberal Dem candidate who issued a leaflet say the only good Tory is a dead Tory.

There are numerous other incidents that could be cited. Yet Kneecap who come from and represent communities who have walked the walk are all over the media for comments made at events with a few hundred/thousand people in attendance.
Well done to them for calling out Israel who for the past 50 days have prevented humanitarian and medical aid entering Gaza. Whose politicians have openly boasted about wanting to exterminate all Palestinians, whose settlers openly boast about stealing land and murdering Palestinians who live there.
Over 50,000 murdered and the outrage over a few words said 2 years ago 🙄

BobbyBiscuits · 30/04/2025 10:21

I don't think they should be in prison, no.
If anything I'm sure that would make them all the more popular among extremists and criminals.

More irrelevant paternalistic lecturing.

Irish involvement in the British empire is absolutely not relevant to the social phenomenon of people who have grown up in England telling people in Northern Ireland all about their own history and that they should get over it.

Fully condemn this as well. Can’t speak for the British authorities but I can speak for myself, and you won’t get any whataboutism from me - no such threats are ok.

As for ‘calling out Israel’, LOL. Which organisation or left wing band hasn’t done this over the last 18 months? It’s hardly a stunningly brave statement, is it? They didn’t call out Israel, they changed ‘up Hamas, up Hezbollah’ and posted this image. How would you excuse this away, as no doubt you will do?

The name is a satirical take on West Belfast stereotypes.

Wondering if I'm the only person on this thread to have seen the Kneecap film.

Edited

It's also a play on an Irish language phrase / joke...Two men in the IRA are walking down the street and they see a man sitting on a wall.

"Do you think that man's in the UVF?" says Martin
Then Gerry says "Ni ceapaim" which is irish for "I dont think so" but sounds like "Kneecap him".

Kneecap are also vocally anti sectarian and support projects helping working class kids with traditionally different backgrounds to them.

Lucy Connolly is in prison, because she pled guilty to an inprisonanble crime.

Kneecap are under investigation. They aren’t going to hurled into prison without an investigation / charge.

This. Due process.

Jesus, some are so overly invested in this and spouting absolute shite.

As for putting Kneecap in prison - that worked out well last time it was tried in Ireland.

They chant in support of the IRA

They are the opposite of anti-sectarian. They promote hatred and division.

What do they chant in support of the IRA? I know the Wolfe tones, Nigel farage, the Irish women's football team etc all love ooh ah up the ra but I haven't seen kneecap do that one. Given that SF/IRA are part of the establishment in west Belfast the hood culture that kneecap depict is as much against them as it is any other authority figure. You can. Also need include the catholic church in that, it isnt just as simple as republican=catholic=ira=hate all Brits.

Kneecap are a trio of absolute cosplaying arseholes and should be widely mocked for their stupidity. Their apology statement being example of their 'sorry not sorry' bollocks.

They shouldn't be arrested but we can only hope they keep getting their gigs cancelled and disappear back under the rock from whence they came.
