Why are Kneecap not in prison?

1000 replies

BlossomBlanket · 29/04/2025 19:49

But Lucy Connelly is? Kneecap told people to kill their MPs. Why have they not been arrested.

(To be very clear, I do not condone violence of any kind towards anyone, I'm just asking as this seems like a double standard, can someone explain?)

'innocent people being brutally slaughtered, starved and terrorised'

The only emaciated people I've seen have been the hostages. Hamas do need to stop slaughtering and terrorising innocent people though yes.

Yes but I don't believe they support Hamas.

You think that when they said “ Up Hamas” they didn’t really mean it ? 🙄

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 01/05/2025 16:58

@OpheliaWasntMadThe people who care least about ordinary Palestinian’s lives are the Israeli government.

That may well be so but it’s got fuck all to do with the subject of the thread

Gloriia · 01/05/2025 17:05

'The footage under investigation is from a concert 2 years ago they didn't blast it from the rooftops thinking it would bring them fame and fortune'

Yes 2 yrs ago! Not 20 so very relevant and shouting it at a concert is the same as shouting it from a rooftop. If you have an audience they will lap it up.

devourfeculence · 01/05/2025 17:05

ComeAsYouAreAsAFriend · 01/05/2025 16:29

I imagine Kneecap hoped the controversy they generate would lead to fame and fortune for them.
The footage under investigation is from a concert 2 years ago they didn't blast it from the rooftops thinking it would bring them fame and fortune. The only reason they have publicly and fame now is because of their movie. They have been an underground cult outfit for years. I doubt you even heard of them 2 years ago.

I don’t believe for one minute they truly care about ordinary Palestinians
You are very wrong in that assumption.

The footage of then praising Hamas and Hezbollah was from November. And it was on a stage in front of a crowd of people, not whispered to someone in private.

ComeAsYouAreAsAFriend · 01/05/2025 16:57

I have followed the thread I have not seen anyone sympathise with Hamas

You were probably looking the other way every time…

Yes, the evidence I have read suggests they appear to say it. Their statement says
"Let us be unequivocal: we do not, and have never, supported Hamas or Hezbollah.

I have no reason not to believe them I choose to give them the benefit of the doubt unless more evidence comes to light that they are actively supporting terrorists.

I am no kneecap fan, I'm impressed by their grà for the Irish language and their work in promoting it and I am very disappointed that rap artists appear to be held to a higher standard then some elected politicians.

No I'm not thanks. Point out where posters on this thread have demonstrated support for Hamas.

trainplane · 01/05/2025 17:14

The repeated cry of ‘terrorist supporter’ ‘Hamas supporter’ is a trope to block / knock back anyone who states that there is a genocide taking place in Gaza, small children dying or mutilated daily. One could respond by asking the questioner if they are a genocide supporter.

'All through west Belfast, the unionist areas are flying Israeli flags and the nationalists are flying the Palestine flag. They’re using the Israel/Palestine situation to further their tribalism. It’s not surprise to me that Kneecap, growing up in that environment, are perpetuating.'

It's pathetic isn't it. You're right, no wonder they've grown up to be such arseholes being brought up in such a toxic tribalistic environment.

I wouldn’t call it ‘pathetic’
Tribal and tense, yes. But not pathetic. You wouldn’t either if you understood what led to such a huge divide in NI

It’s designed to shut down debate. If you don’t agree with me, you’re a terrorist sympathiser.
This is so much more complex than the reductive ‘good vs evil’ attitude that most people seem to have.

We've all heard of what led to the divide. For nationalists and unionists to be using the situation in Gaza to add to their tribalistic conflicts is indeed pathetic.

There is nothing complex and nuanced about shouting “ Up Hamas Up Hezbollah “ 🙄

You did it again… ‘complex and nuanced’ is clearly in reference to the political situation, but you reduce the discussion to focus on a singular action instead of addressing the question of whether the response to the act (reporting to counter terrorism unit) is a valid one, and if so is it applied fairly (previous posters have given examples of politicians / well known people saying similar outrageous things but not attracting police interest). And are interested parties manufacturing outrage to deflect from accusations of funding a genocide?

I disagree. The Zionist settlers care even less about the Palestinians.

There was once a promising hip hop outfit called NWA

You clearly know nothing about NWA or their members to think it destroyed their career

Whoosh....

I think in this particular case people are saying that kneecap are terrorist supporters because they expressed support for terrorists. Refer “up Hamas up Hezbollah” and the pic with the hezbollah book.

Of course it is valid that this group is reported to counter terrorism.
The fact that other cases have not been reported is not the subject of this thread and is something I can’t honestly comment on as I don’t know the details. But if there were similar cases then I completely agree they should have been dealt with.
I think much of this sort of comment is deflection and derailment from the actual offences Kneecap committed

Reporting a statement in public supporting terrorists to the counter terrorist group would seem one of the most valid things to report to a counter terrorist group I would have thought?

@Gloriia
if you drove up the falls road in west balance 15-20 years ago the plight of the Palestinians was on full view in murals all over the walls. This was not done to add to any ‘tribalistic conflict’. The nationalist community has not jumped on any bandwagon after October 7th. The situation only became more ‘mainstream’ news after October 7th. I can’t speak for the unionist side, but I don’t recall seeing any support for Israel pre October 7th and now there’s Israel flags all over the place.

What do you think it is about October 7 that makes people come out in support of Israel?

I think it was an aspect of the tribalistic conflict. The IRA and the PLO were quite “close “ in the 70’s and 80’s .
