Personalised number plates - cringey?

Inspired by the mum I see most mornings on the school run. Range Rover, personalised plate, leggings tucked into white socks - I’m sure you know the type!

Anyway, personalised number plates - yay or nay?

PNP’s on a run-of-the-mill motor, are akin to the cheapest LV tote.
They scream ‘look at me’, ‘wannabe’, and ‘try-hard’.

As I say, fur coat, sans underwear.

Otherwise, I find them simply naff, but not offensive. Knock yourselves out, PNP lovers.

Yes, my family members who have one that is in memory of their late child are doing it because they are flashy. I don't think so. Their car is not flashy.

Some people really can't think outside of the box.

Wishywashylaundry · 30/04/2025 06:57

So bizarre how upset people get over what others spend their money on

NeverDropYourMooncup · 30/04/2025 07:12

Don't really give a monkey's one way or the other - they can make it easier to remember the registration of a car that stinks of weed or in the event of there being an accident to report, though.

Tbrh · 30/04/2025 07:30

I think clever ones or ones that go with the car can be cool. But a Range Rover is not cool so def cringe and trying too hard. One of the mums here has one that says "Sexy" 😳 I cringe every time I see it l 🤣

Oh here we are. Thete hasn't been a private plate bashing thread for what a week 🙄

Some people like them and buy them. Some people don't. I think judging people for having them is ridiculous though.

People spend money on different things - what a shocker

I don't think it's bashing as you call it in general, but it's not in dispute that some are vulgar. There's a big difference between initials on a plate and things like X80 TOX, B165 TUD(jiggled about to suit) and the like. They are laughable.

This thread is actually nuts. Personalised plates are quite common where I live, and some of them are rather clever. People in the UK seem to get so wound up over things people in other countries pay no attention to. Confused

Yeah…sometimes that parochial small minded attitudes on here make me realise that I’m stuck on a tiny island with…well, rather a lot of arseholes.

Cosyblankets · 30/04/2025 08:24

Didn't know there was anything wrong with tucking leggings into socks. Do enlighten me if there's any other things i might be doing that affect your day in any way

DonnaBanana · 30/04/2025 08:26

As a “I have surplus money to waste” indicator they are no worse than jewellery or Funko Pops in my eyes

330ml · 30/04/2025 09:27

Lonelycrab · 29/04/2025 22:55

But not a personalised one

Which is what the thread is about.

Edited

You don’t need personalised clothes either. A national uniform would do.

A poor choice of words, perhaps.

MirrorMirror1247 · 30/04/2025 18:19

They're not for me, but my DP's parents both have one, and they bought him one for his 30th birthday. They're absolutely lovely people though and as far removed from tacky as it's possible to be!

NattyTurtle59 · 30/04/2025 03:25

Don't think so Wink I've never known anyone who finds life so dull that they need to go on a website to tell thousands of random strangers their views about something so trivial. They might mention it to a friend, then forget about it.

Mnet and all chat rooms are full of threads on trivial matters.
If people aren’t interested they can scroll on by and find something they are interested in.

Personally i love living in a world full of variety.

They were cremated.

it's definitely a rich thing around here, we have 3 families that own and run a lot of businesses round here and have bought the majority of the houses where they live (sad and in competition with each other I think!) all have private plates, so we all know which family they belong to 🤣

New money 🤣

MyNameIsX · 30/04/2025 19:55

ItsSummerSoon · 30/04/2025 19:52

In all seriousness, I sincerely wish them nothing but peace and love.

Does it actually matter? If people want one, and a lot of them look like normal number plates to start with, then what does it matter to you?
This place.... how does anyone actually live a normal life when they are spending so much energy hating something that does not not affect them whatsoever.

You don't have to spend very much energy at all thinking personalised number plates are a bit naff. You go about your business but, when you come across one, you think the thought. Piece of piss.

ItsSummerSoon · 30/04/2025 20:20

Why can't you say the t**t word? I'd have normally used a stronger word?

I'm actually not offended.

Did you report me for swearing? It was banter 🤣

No, I did not report you.

I was watering some plants so I missed your original reply.

You have my word.

Hallywally · 30/04/2025 20:25

I think they’re pretty naff but I don’t really care what other people spend their money on what they chose to drive/wear. I drive a teenager’s car on the school run, in no make up, supermarket clothes with brightly dyed hair and tattoos- I’m sure plenty of people wouldn’t choose my attire either 🤣

Tw&t is a perfectly acceptable word in my vocabulary, so not sure why it was removed…

ItsSummerSoon · 30/04/2025 20:43

Are there just some swear words you can't say?

Or is it if you call someome a swear word, like- you are a *

But it's OK to say I was * starving

?

Lonelycrab · 30/04/2025 21:07

There’s nothing wrong with twat as a word.

Its if, in the context of the post, it was used in an aggressive or abusive way. Thats my guess. You can’t just call someone a twat because you don’t agree with their point.
