Personalised number plates - cringey?

AmyAmb · 29/04/2025 17:00

Inspired by the mum I see most mornings on the school run. Range Rover, personalised plate, leggings tucked into white socks - I’m sure you know the type!

Anyway, personalised number plates - yay or nay?

OP posts:

@DrPrunesqualer stalker alert ?

i know
and i don’t have electronic gates to keep them out even though My neighbour with his really really cras personal number plate wanted to put one on my drive 🤣🤣🤣……

Numnumbirdy · 29/04/2025 22:42

Each to their own sounds like sour grapes to me

NeilDiamondsBlowDry · 29/04/2025 22:43

@DrPrunesqualer ah come now you just sound bitter and jealous cus he is ‘rich’ and dripping with sovereign rings

NeilDiamondsBlowDry · 29/04/2025 22:48

It’s very telling that the opinion of the PNP lovers always without fail put it down to ‘sour grapes’ /jealousy or forelock tugging awe of them being ‘rich’ enough to afford a £500 reg plate

i think they all drank the Kool Aid 🤷🏻‍♀️

Its not a rich thing
I’m sure they all know that, it would be sad if they didn’t tbh.

It’s a taste thing and we are not all the same. Thank goodness!

Difference is we all have to have clothes, footwear and some sort of haircut.

We have to have a reg plate too.

Lonelycrab · 29/04/2025 22:55

330ml · 29/04/2025 22:52

We have to have a reg plate too.

But not a personalised one

Which is what the thread is about.

NeilDiamondsBlowDry · 29/04/2025 22:55

@DrPrunesqualer ’rich’ has been mentioned a lot to be fair 💰

Does it actually matter? If people want one, and a lot of them look like normal number plates to start with, then what does it matter to you?
This place.... how does anyone actually live a normal life when they are spending so much energy hating something that does not not affect them whatsoever.

NeilDiamondsBlowDry · 29/04/2025 22:57

@330ml eh ???

NattyTurtle59 · 29/04/2025 22:58

I would rather hang out with a nice person who had a personalised number plate and tucked their leggings into their white socks than someone who judged those who do.

We do know your type OP, and I for one am not impressed!

notacooldad · 29/04/2025 22:58

It said.. MONNEY 1
On a 15 year old Audi A4😂
Well they obviously didn’t have much money. I mean, would you be seen driving around in that?
Seriously it wouldn't bother me.
Neither the plate , the age of the car or the type of car. If it drives ,it's already winning for ne. I'm not skint or rich either.
I just don't care.

It would make me smile.
I have learned on this thread, that some tradespeople have a personalised number plate related to their trade on their vans. I kind of want to look out for them now.

I don’t think anyone is hating anything here, just expressing an opinion of tacky and cringey (in their opinion)

Quite amusing how wound up that gets some people…it’s just an opinion, and not something that’s really all that insulting, although it obviously does to some.

NattyTurtle59 · 29/04/2025 23:05

This thread is actually nuts. Personalised plates are quite common where I live, and some of them are rather clever. People in the UK seem to get so wound up over things people in other countries pay no attention to. Confused

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 29/04/2025 23:06

Clearly nay

But I didn’t know leggings tucked into white socks was a type. What type is it?

Well yeah, but the opposite will be true also.

Cardiecard · 29/04/2025 23:11

personally I like to name cars when they piss me off so it’s nice of them to have a name badge 🤣

Mine isn’t personalised as such, just sheer coincidence it is almost my nickname and came with my first old lil car. I retained it, it’s more obvious it’s been retained now on a new car.

Don't think so Wink I've never known anyone who finds life so dull that they need to go on a website to tell thousands of random strangers their views about something so trivial. They might mention it to a friend, then forget about it.

MyNameIsX · 30/04/2025 03:35

PNP’s on a run-of-the-mill motor, are akin to the cheapest LV tote.
They scream ‘look at me’, ‘wannabe’, and ‘try-hard’.

As I say, fur coat, sans underwear.

Otherwise, I find them simply naff, but not offensive. Knock yourselves out, PNP lovers.

WaryHiker · 30/04/2025 03:38

DisagreeingALot · 29/04/2025 17:23

V v v v tacky.

I wouldn't personally go for that one. But each to their own.

Kimmeridge · 30/04/2025 03:48

Oh here we are. Thete hasn't been a private plate bashing thread for what a week 🙄

Some people like them and buy them. Some people don't. I think judging people for having them is ridiculous though.

People spend money on different things - what a shocker

TheatreTraveller · 29/04/2025 18:56

Mine is very important to me and holds a lot of emotion.
I'm about as far away as being a 'chav' as possible. Totally boring middle aged glasses wearing geek.

I fit most people's idea of what a chav is on here lol and if that makes me one.... fine with me! (also wear glasses and middle aged lol)

it's definitely a rich thing around here, we have 3 families that own and run a lot of businesses round here and have bought the majority of the houses where they live (sad and in competition with each other I think!) all have private plates, so we all know which family they belong to 🤣

Why does it bother you so much?

I don't know - l have always felt like it
