Silliest place you’ve seen a dog owner take their dog

To ask where the silliest / most inappropriate place you’ve seen a dog taken by the owner

Inspired by recent posts complaining about dogs being everywhere in cafes etc

Yesterday in our local Cathedral Easter service , a dog was taken up to the altar for communion with its owners. I’ve seen it all now 😃
I was unfortunately unable to see if they attempted to snaffle a bit of bread for the dog , but it honestly wouldn’t have surprised me
Just why ?

Wedding reception and evening do.

I don't know about silliest but I was in an M & S food shop on Saturday- it was one off because I never usually buy M & S food - and there was a woman shopping there with a dog in her trolley. It was a small dog lying on a blanket . I stress it was not a guide dog or hearing assistance dog.

I was actually disgusted.

Since when were people allowed to disregard hygiene laws in this manner?
And the staff can't have failed to see this dog.

To a funeral.

HangingOver · 21/04/2025 08:07

Our solicitors let us bring ours in the sign our wills! He was a brand new rescue at the time and didn't handle been left alone so we were going to wait outside in turn but they said bring him in and made a huge fuss of him. When the solicitor reads out the bit about who gets the dog if we both die in a fireball he even looked at DDog as of to check he was okay with it.

EveryFlavourJellyBeans · 21/04/2025 08:12

Any clothes shop really. They all look really stressed being in there and it's completely unnecessary. I expect the poor things would much prefer the park.

You can take dogs in your trolley in lots of supermarkets in France...not just small dogs either!

BigDahliaFan · 21/04/2025 08:17

we have had dogs at family funerals, it was lovely to see the dog there.

Saw someone put their dog in the trolley at b&q yesterday, on a blanket, the staff turned a blind eye…I’m not sure that was an issue tbh, no food involved.

but a dog at a fireworks display I thought was madness.

we took our dog into a cute little old church yesterday, we were just going past on a walk and they were having an Easter open day with people to explain the history of it. I said, oh we can’t because of the dog, and they said, oh you can we’ve got dog treats. Popped in and left a donation after an interesting talk….they know their market.

Why is mumsnet suddenly anti dog?

chakrakkhan · 21/04/2025 08:19

Off topic sort of - Our local cathedral does a service for pets once a year OP! It’s an actually lovely. Someone bought a mini pony once. And they have a donkey and sheep at the crib service on Xmas eve.

Makes a change from it being anti trans 🤷‍♀️

Oh my goodness!
I wouldn't be happy about that at all.

Every day I hear something else that adds to this feeling the world is spiralling into a crazy place I don't understand at all.

LemonRobin · 21/04/2025 08:21

My friend took hers into a small theatre but she does have chronic health conditions and if it was America would definitely be allowed a therapy/support dog.
I love the dogs in cafes. They keep my toddler distracted and entertained while I drink my coffee. She was trying to play peekaboo with a labradoodle the other day!

No one is anti-trans, just pro women’s rights 🙄

Why is mumsnet suddenly anti dog?

Thats not a new thing. Mumsnet is famously anti dog, so much so that it makes me surprised to see people like my dogs when they’re out and about.

Santasbigredbobblehat · 21/04/2025 08:23

Someone I know said she was allowed to have her dog next to her on a flight back from the US as it was her ‘support dog’. I’m not sure that could’ve been true.

Why is mumsnet suddenly anti dog?

There’s a huge anti dog sentiment on mumsnet. Honestly some posters froth at the mouth about the mere existence of dogs. Can be quite entertaining to see how unnecessarily irate they can get.

bozzabollix · 21/04/2025 08:25

I have to occasionally take my dogs to the toilet, if we’re out and about. Not leaving them to be nicked!

LeftFooter · 21/04/2025 08:25

In a small quiet Mass. The dog kept yapping. The priest had to raise his voice. Ridiculous (and expressly forbidden in the Catholic Church).

Rastyopolis · 21/04/2025 08:25

John Lewis and Marks and Spencer’s. It drives me mad seeing dogs in department stores that are not service dogs (I’m saying this as someone with 2 large dogs).

You might not be but unfortunately many are. You can be pro womens rights without vilifying trans people - which is what many are doing

Why is mumsnet suddenly anti dog?

Nothing sudden about it. This sort of thread is about as regular as parking ones.
MN is of course simultaneously pro dog.
MN is pro and anti all sorts of things - lots of different opinions. As it should be.

I hate dogs in cafes. There is nothing worse than sitting down having a coffee and a bite to eat and find someone’s dog sniffing around your table. There are so many selfish dog owners who appear not to understand that many people not only don’t share their love of their dog but actively detest them.

Why is mumsnet suddenly anti dog?

I love dogs but I don’t want them in supermarkets or coffee shops unless they’re a registered guide dog for the blind or deaf.
