Why were trans threads hidden?

ImConfusedDotComHelp · 20/04/2025 18:19

Since the ruling that biological sex matters I've been reading more and more. Every day.

To my shame, I didn't really follow the issue or consider it before. The more I read, the more horrified I am at how women who've been campaigning have been treated by society, by TRA activists, by other women and even on mumsnet hidden in a corner in sex and feminism.

JK Rowling having rape and death threats for sharing her concerns. Women being cancelled. This is an every women and every girl issue.

With the rise in toxic masculinity and misogyny in schools and society we all need to talk about this more.

Well done to those that did the talking and campaigning for the safety of all women.

When were they hidden? Mumsnet has always been full of them and it's overflowing at the moment.

HermioneWeasley · 20/04/2025 18:25

They weren’t hidden but they were confined to the feminism board and any attempt to raise the ire Sue in Chat or AIBU was moved to the topic.

On sex and feminism threads.

I’ve hidden them all because they’re dull as fuck.

nocoolnamesleft · 20/04/2025 18:38

The feminism area is the first I go to every time I come on mumsnet, because it is so vital and important. Defending our rights is not dull.

Never2many · 20/04/2025 18:42

I’ve hidden all the feminist topics because they might as well have been named the transphobia topics.

The need for some women to make every thread into an anti trans issue has become tedious. And while it can be argued that the ruling is a positive in some senses, it is just going to lead to more transphobia and hatred of the trans community.

There is an awful lot of wrong on both sides of the discussion.

Thanks. That feels odd. Why hide?

I'm glad that people are now allowed to discuss in aibu.

For people who aren't interested they can just ignore as I do for threads I find uninteresting.

I've been reading the threads and find it interesting I don't see hatred but women fighting for rights based on sex. Nothing wrong with that surely.

Are they? Because I keep seeing them and it's getting fucking boring... just the same sweeping statements and sentiments repeated. If you don't want to call someone "she" then don't... If you want to refuse to go somewhere because they have a gender neutral policy then fucking don't go there!

Tbh I'd actually welcome seeing some pro-trans posts, just to balance it out a bit and see some counter arguements because it's so one sided on here. It's like watching old people sitting and talking to themselves in a care home repeating the same things.

Rant over 🤣🤣🤣

You’re aware that 2 or more years ago, the feminism topic was split so that Sex and Gender is its own space and Feminism Chat is everything else?
The justification for it was for the benefit of people who were alienated by exposure to S&G.

Disappointing that such a disruptive action failed in its intent.

No, they are not hidden, they are moved to the appropriate board. Just like there is a royal family board, a pregnancy board, etc. what is the point of having boards if they’re not used? It means people who are interested in the topics can follow them and those who aren’t can hide them.

There was a pro trans one I saw it earlier. I'm not bored finding out about the subject. The violence towards women who merely stand up for women is dreadful. No need for violence at all. Rape threats are never ok, ever.

I guess you should just not read them? I don't read cat threads.

Where is the wrong on the side of those defending women’s rights? Are they the ones pulling this sort of stunt?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/crkx78zlm4po.amp

Or issuing rape and death threats, like the thousands JK Rowling and countless other feminists have received from TRAs?

I have yet to see evidence to justify the “both sides” argument.

A bronze statue of a man in military uniform on top of a stone plinth in front of a Whitehall building. The plinth is defaced by graffiti. There are people walking past the statue.

Graffiti is found on seven statues of historic figures in Parliament Square following a protest.

I see it more as a women's issue really on a mainly women's site. We don't all want to chat Royal family or cats but most of us are women?

If you don't want to call someone "she" then don't

If only it was that simple. Because of your obsessive hiding from the subject, you are clearly unaware that women who were physically assaulted by men have been required to refer to their attacker as 'she' in court. While under oath to speak only the truth, these women were instructed by the judge to lie. In 2018 Maria Maclachlan was assaulted by a trans-identified man. He was found guilty of the assault, but because Maria was penalised by the judge because she referred to him by accurate masculine pronouns instead of using 'she'.

I'm glad they are in the open personally so more of us can see. To me it's about women and girls so it's important to me.

I was gobsmacked that a victim has to call her male attacker she. That's been hidden very well until now. Shameful behaviour towards a victim.

I’ve also hidden the feminist topics/boards, but I also click on the three dots on threads like this that show up and click “hide thread” and it won’t show up in the feed anymore, although it still may show up in the trending topics.

As do the vast majority of the posters on the Feminism boards.

Pregancy, maternity rights, childbirth injuries, breastfeeding, menopause, these are all issues arising because we are women, not because we believe that we are women.

Struggling to get through the glass ceiling at work, losing out on promotions or CPD due to maternity leaves and home responsibilities, these happen because we are women, not because somebody believes that we are women.

The list is endless.

This article outlines it (and shows that even the Graun are now starting to row back on their insane stance on all this… I say this as a leftie who used to read it regularly before this nonsense started):

Thank you.

"Rowling is a serious philanthropist. She supports a wide range of humanitarian causes through her charitable trust Volant, including charities working with women and children, and donated £10m to set up a world-leading research and treatment centre for multiple sclerosis in Scotland founded in the name of her mother, Anne Rowling, who died from the disease. In 2022, she funded and co-founded Beira’s Place, a sexual violence support service for women in Edinburgh." Certainly feels like she uses her money to helps people.
