Why were trans threads hidden?

Since the ruling that biological sex matters I've been reading more and more. Every day.

To my shame, I didn't really follow the issue or consider it before. The more I read, the more horrified I am at how women who've been campaigning have been treated by society, by TRA activists, by other women and even on mumsnet hidden in a corner in sex and feminism.

JK Rowling having rape and death threats for sharing her concerns. Women being cancelled. This is an every women and every girl issue.

With the rise in toxic masculinity and misogyny in schools and society we all need to talk about this more.

Well done to those that did the talking and campaigning for the safety of all women.

I’m in the ROI. There’s a limit to how much I need to know about this Supreme Court thing because it doesn’t affect me. It doesn’t change anything here. I don’t need to read every single thread relating to it and there are loads atm.

I'm in the ROI and I think it massively affects all women worldwide. It's a great relief to see this UK law being clarified and to have women's rights confirmed. Trans people have lost absolutely nothing, they are still protected under the equality act. The way certain trans activists are now behaving is appalling but unsurprising. Women have been silenced, bullied and abused over this issue for too long.
I don't understand why all women are not up in arms about how they've been treated and why they don't want to pay attention to this stuff? There is nothing 'anti trans' about wanting to have women only spaces based on biological sex where there is a clear need for such spaces (hospitals, prisons, toilets, rape crisis centres etc). But we've been called terfs, anti-trans, bigots, fascists for expressing this view. Finally some light at the end of the tunnel.

And yet, still nothing in the media (as far as I can see) from the UK government, Keir Starmer in particular. How's he going to step back from his implication that some women have penises!

I'm not a bigot. You felt the need to join a thread to post that?

So, you don’t think people should post about anything that they want general discussion on, on a general discussion board ? But I am twisting your words?

Other ‘divisive’ topics appear in AIBU, so it seems to be just the ones you don’t want to read that is the issue.

But discussion of trans isn’t allowed to be a general discussion.

You’re either transphobic or you’re flamed for not being.

nobody is allowed to be anything but transphobic on MN. This is why Barclays and Ocado want nothing to do with them.

People have become so far intrenched in the whole single sex spaces argument that they have lost sight of the fact that they have become bigots.

Let’s be honest here, how many women are being raped by trans women? Genuinely? Because it certainly isn’t anything near a large number, but as soon as it happens once the whole trans community is blamed.

Trans people have existed for an eternity. There have always been trans men and women, for as long as I remember.

myplace · 20/04/2025 22:04

As you can tell from this thread, @ImConfusedDotComHelp , there’s very vigorous campaigning to keep the subject under wraps. PO explained it well, with everything shunted off to ‘the naughty corner’ and even there the board being split so no one’s feelings were hurt- yet they still harassed the threads they didn’t like, reporting posts and getting comments deleted.

For a long time the slogan was TWAW, No Debate! We weren’t supposed to discuss it, to question it.

You’re right. There’s no reason it shouldn’t crop up in AIBU or Chat- it’s not like they are only for ‘things that don’t fit a topic’.

Massive misrepresentation of the problem. No one on MN claims that women are frequently being raped by transwomen- though some have been.

The issue is preserving single sex spaces for the dignity, comfort and safety of those entitled to use them.

I take it back. I don't care anymore. I suggest if you are not up to date with the issue you look at some videos of Helen Joyce calmly and logically explaining why it was important to women and to society in general. I just get very depressed about women attacking other women over this issue and calling them names. I'm sick of the abuse.

No need at all. It's awful how some people feel they can talk to people like that in the name of 'compassion' for another subset of people.. mind boggling.

report the comments if you feel they are against talk guidelines

WE WILL CALL YOU CIS
I won't answer to it

Fortunately, the Supreme Court ruling has meant that women now have the right not to see men in their single sex spaces anymore, and the word you mention (which I decline to use) will hopefully fall out of use completely soon.

Oh, and transwomen definitely aren't women. The SC has made that clear.

Thanks for replying

Is a question that applies to all NHS hospitals.

NhS Fife is fighting an employee in court to protect the rights of a doctor.

The doctor who has been trained (and is mentored by senior A&E doctors) in the UK health system stated that the doctor expected other staff to ignore the patient when the patient asks for same sex health care.

So I am asking people to decide what policy should the NHS adopt as the policy could lead to staff being charged with a crime or sued along side the tax payer funded hospital.

Sorry, I’m not wanting to ignore you and I’m really not being facetious, but I still don’t fully understand. Piecing together your two posts, I’m assuming that a patient has asked to be seen by a woman doctor, and has been given a trans woman doctor? And another doctor/chaperone has reported this but they are the one who has got into trouble for reporting it? I’m not sure who has assaulted who though? Anyways, to answer the question I don’t know what the policy should be there, sorry. If someone has been assaulted, then they should be the one being protected.

I’ve hidden all the feminist topics because they might as well have been named the transphobia topics.

The need for some women to make every thread into an anti trans issue has become tedious. And while it can be argued that the ruling is a positive in some senses, it is just going to lead to more transphobia and hatred of the trans community.

There is an awful lot of wrong on both sides of the discussion.

It isn't gender critical women threatening to rape people and burn them alive, or who carry (with impunity) placards with slogans such as 'kill the terfs' with illustrations.

Same here. Not interested in the other areas.

Ones who are fed up with being called bigots, actual murderers, fascists, right-wing stooges etc. I don't go in for calling women who say TWAW handmaids, I think they either thick or foolish - or possibly misinformed, of course.

Xenia · 20/04/2025 22:45

It tends to be biological men on MN if they come on here and on the planet doing most violence and will always be so. Obviously on a board for us mothers we are very likely to have biological women very keen to protect biological women.

MN has allowed free speech and is to be commended.

I can understand why there is a designated section for it. It’s a very emotive topic and some threads get very heated. I find the complete absence of agreeing to disagree sad. The ganging up on threads I’ve seen has been tiring, where posters call out views, and then will call in back-up to pursue posts with even slightly differing views has been sad to witness. Many familiar usernames. I didn’t know threads could be hidden. That’s really helpful.

1 of us killed every 3 days in the UK. I hope next steps will focus our energy on changing laws for better prosecution of rape, or sex with minors 13-15 being classified as rape, domestic violence - financial, physical, emotional and the general slow-drip abuse of women.
