Why were trans threads hidden?

Since the ruling that biological sex matters I've been reading more and more. Every day.

To my shame, I didn't really follow the issue or consider it before. The more I read, the more horrified I am at how women who've been campaigning have been treated by society, by TRA activists, by other women and even on mumsnet hidden in a corner in sex and feminism.

JK Rowling having rape and death threats for sharing her concerns. Women being cancelled. This is an every women and every girl issue.

With the rise in toxic masculinity and misogyny in schools and society we all need to talk about this more.

Well done to those that did the talking and campaigning for the safety of all women.

I see it more as a women's issue really on a mainly women's site. We don't all want to chat Royal family or cats but most of us are women?

As do the vast majority of the posters on the Feminism boards.

Pregancy, maternity rights, childbirth injuries, breastfeeding, menopause, these are all issues arising because we are women, not because we believe that we are women.

Struggling to get through the glass ceiling at work, losing out on promotions or CPD due to maternity leaves and home responsibilities, these happen because we are women, not because somebody believes that we are women.

The list is endless.

Thank you. We are women and perhaps should support each other.

The ones that find women's issues dull don't need to read them? I don't read pregnancy threads because I'm.not pregnant still a woman so this interests me. Feel a bit head in sand.

Are they? Because I keep seeing them and it's getting fucking boring... just the same sweeping statements and sentiments repeated. If you don't want to call someone "she" then don't... If you want to refuse to go somewhere because they have a gender neutral policy then fucking don't go there!

Tbh I'd actually welcome seeing some pro-trans posts, just to balance it out a bit and see some counter arguements because it's so one sided on here. It's like watching old people sitting and talking to themselves in a care home repeating the same things.

Rant over 🤣🤣🤣

Do you think you have to be old to know that sex matters?

SolielMoonSky · 20/04/2025 19:13

I’m in the ROI. There’s a limit to how much I need to know about this Supreme Court thing because it doesn’t affect me. It doesn’t change anything here. I don’t need to read every single thread relating to it and there are loads atm.

You are right in that too many times many threads in the past that were started in AIBU were moved to the feminism chat board. Usually with no discussion with the OP, just because some posters lacked the ability to control their impulses and clicked on threads that they, personally, did not want to see.

In effect, some posters convinced MNHQ to curate AIBU to suit their preferences.

It gets even better though. Because it used to be one Feminism board. Then a group of posters decided that they also couldn't scroll past threads they didn't want to interact with and demanded that MNHQ create a separate Sex & Gender board. And MNHQ did, maybe thinking that it would make the threads more free flowing without the constant complaints from those posters who demanded that the boards be split. But those posters who demanded the split still stayed on the S&G board and berated feminists. They still do it.

Then came the accusations from people that feminism board was only about 'trans' issues (they never quite work out that it is about the many issues facing women and children from a female centred perspective) because some people never bothered to look to see the hardly ever used Feminism Chat board.

So, you are not wrong OP.

Yes to the shoehorning it into threads. I get told to scroll on by, but I click on something about a school trip or "A HR issue" and SURPRISE! It's about single sex spaces.

ImConfusedDotComHelp · 20/04/2025 18:58

I'm glad they are in the open personally so more of us can see. To me it's about women and girls so it's important to me.

That’s great as that’s what important to you, but you can’t assume it’s the same for everyone else. That’s why there are topics. It’s called mumsnet, but not everyone is a mum. I have found a lot of these posts talk about sexual assault, which can be distressing so people might want to hide it.

What’s the point of having topics if people don’t use them? Just because it’s important to some people shouldn’t mean topics are ignored.

IstayhomeonFridaynight · 20/04/2025 19:37

It's great that you're interested now, but the issue wasn't being kept secret, and debates on trans issues have often come up on trending topics.

Providing a forum to duscuss gender critical issues is why MN was boycotted by Ocado and Barklays, it's unfair to MN to say they'd hidden the issue away.

But not on AIBU, unfortunately. And this is where you are. Don't see your problem.

Tbh, if you would like to see pro-trans posts, you will find Reddit might make you happy. You could spend every moment of every day revelling in them. There are endless subreddits for every single subset of trans interests anyone could possibly want- admittedly the majority are labelled NSFW, but there are many others if watching men in dresses masturbate isn't your thing.

The single gender-critical subreddit was banned, and all the lesbian subreddits are happy to accept their transwomen sisters (well, they get banned if they don't, so have to toe the line).

You're welcome!

Gosh. What a surprise that the issues impact many aspects of people’s lives. Despite so many people derisively saying ‘how does it affect you’? in a way to shame and shut down discussion.

“The rest of the UK”? The republic isn’t in the UK.

The point is there really doesn’t need to be thread after thread reiterated the same thing over and over and over.
It should be mostly confined to the appropriate board because it’s clogging up Actives, getting shoe horned into unrelated threads and has become a total pita. It’s is far, far from being hidden away.
It will die down eventually anyway but some posters will still be determined to keep starting threads in AIBU/ chat/ relationships/ mental health etc and it’s a nuisance. It’s just looking for arguments because they’re sick of agreeing with each other on the feminist board.

Interesting then that people feel the need to hide the true motivation behind starting the thread to get people to read it.

E.g "AIBU to think HR should apologise" and it's not the OP's HR department but that of some random GC woman who has already been discussed to death.

So you clicked on a thread title and it didn’t match what the OP’s title said. It happens.

So what? Do you go and tell off all posters who do it or just the ones who want to discuss this issue in connection to the subject in the title? Or can’t you read the first post and then close the thread?

Does it cause you some kind of harm to read something you disagree with so that you feel you need a trigger warning ?

@SolielMoonSky just for you the transman and transwoman both have an Irish GRC's

.

So you as a jury member for a criminal trial ( or a civil case for damages) and have to decide if a man was assaulted in an A&E.

Judge tell you that assault is the
•act of unwanted physical contact to another person or
• the threat of unwanted physical contact to another person or
• attempt to do so.

A man came into A&E and told the admission/nursing staff member he want a man doctor and another man chaperone for any medical provision including any examinations

There are 4 doctors on staff :
A) female who classes herself as a woman
B) female who classes herself as a transman
C) male who classes himself as a man
D) male who classes himself as a transwoman.

The there are 4 chaperones on staff :
E) female who classes herself as a woman
F) female who classes herself as a transman
G) male who classes himself as a man
H) male who classes himself as a transwoman.

Its a such a quiet night that all 8 individuals are having a teabreak together when the admissions staff member comes in and says one man doctor and one man chaperone is needed as the man said he wanted a man doctor and a man chaperone.

Question 1
Would you agree or disagree that the individual doctor (A, B, C, D) is carrying out an assault if they carried out the exam?
A) female who classes herself as a woman
B) female who classes herself as a transman
C) male who classes himself as a man
D) male who classes himself as a transwoman.

Question 2
Would you agree or disagree that individual chaperones (E, F, G, H) if they act as chaperones for a doctor (A, B, C, D) are witnessing an assault or are participating in an assault?
E) female who classes herself as a woman
F) female who classes herself as a transman
G) male who classes himself as a man
H) male who classes himself as a transwoman.

Question 3
How about the other doctors if they see the other doctors carry out the exam should they have a duty to speak out or stop the other doctor?
.
Question 4
How about the other doctors if they see the chaperones chaperone should they have a duty to speak out or stop the chaperone?

Question 5
How about the other chaperones if they see the doctor carry out the exam should they have a duty to speak out or stop the doctor?
.
Question 6
How about the other chaperones if they see the other chaperones chaperone should they have a duty to speak out or stop the chaperone?

Any one willing to cast a vote in the jury room?

So you too want MNHQ to curate content specifically to your preference.

Why not then campaign to get rid of AIBU completely then? It is a general board to discuss a broad range of topics, but it seems you lack the ability to scroll on by.

It seems now that you have quite an entrenched prejudice about people who don’t agree with you in this topic. Discussing how rights that conflict to learn how to find equitable solutions is not ‘anti’. Ideologically driven people speak in such terms. I am not ashamed of myself for discussing how another group’s expectations for laws and policies negatively impact on those of women’s and children’s.

It is not me going around saying I cannot even read other people’s opinions or the information they post. To me, that fits the description of bigot. So maybe your accusation towards those you call bigoted is merely projection.

I don’t think I said that did I? I just think for a very divisive topic, the threads should stick to the right section.

Same with a lot of the sex threads, it’s a topic people are likely to go looking for.

Don’t twist my words.

So, you don’t think people should post about anything that they want general discussion on, on a general discussion board ? But I am twisting your words?

Other ‘divisive’ topics appear in AIBU, so it seems to be just the ones you don’t want to read that is the issue.

Thanks for replying

Is a question that applies to all NHS hospitals.

NhS Fife is fighting an employee in court to protect the rights of a doctor.

The doctor who has been trained (and is mentored by senior A&E doctors) in the UK health system stated that the doctor expected other staff to ignore the patient when the patient asks for same sex health care.

So I am asking people to decide what policy should the NHS adopt as the policy could lead to staff being charged with a crime or sued along side the tax payer funded hospital.
