Trans protest- sharing for balance

1000 replies

Tandora · 20/04/2025 11:47

There’s a thread sharing some really awful images from the protest, so I wanted to share some positive ones for the sake of some perspective/ balance.
A lot of people are really understandably incredibly angry and overwhelmed by the events of the last few days. But most people who support trans rights absolutely don’t condone fighting oppression and injustice with misogyny.

They never actually had those rights, they just took them.

Exactly 😒

Fimofriend · 20/04/2025 13:07

For balance? The majority of the news sites have only shown that kind of posters. They have conveniently ignored all the posters with threats and the only news outlet that mentioned that a reporter or camera man from GB News got assaulted at the protest was GB News

How about for balance you acknowledge that is isn't only a small minority of the TRAs who are abusive to women and girls?

Tandora · 20/04/2025 13:08

VickyEadieofThigh · 20/04/2025 13:06

They're still male or female. Just because the UN adopts out of date terminology doesn't mean it's "not true" that a lot of people with DSD conditions dislike the use of the term.

The terminology is not “out of date”. Some people prefer the terminology of “intersex” and object strongly to the language of “DSDs” (which they find offensive); some people feel the opposite. Both perspectives are legitimate. There is no consensus on this and you have no legitimacy for claiming there is. It’s simply dishonest.

The point is that you are completely wrong about that and it is deeply oppressive to try to enforce policies that say so.

Ok, so contrary to your OP you've just come here to argue and troll. Good for you.

ThisFluentBiscuit · 20/04/2025 13:06

Not true; TERFs don't want a trans woman in the cubicle next to them even if she's had her penis and balls removed and has had lots of hormone therapy, and passes completely as female. TERFs still don't want them there and they are unconcerned about what harm might come to her if she uses the men's, post-transition. See the recent thread on here ("How to live in the female gender") written by someone who has fully transitioned and was told by numerous posters to stay out of female toilets. TERFs are completely and utterly compromising, they don't want transwomen to exist, they deny that they exist, and they don't care about their safety. It's the new hate.

See, no matter what men have done to themselves, they're still men to me. And I adopt the safeguarding principle that all men are potentially dangerous to me (the many examples of trans-identifying men who've committed crimes of violence and sexual assault against women proves that such identification doesn't wave a magic wand and make each of those trans-identifying men suddenly completely safe) and therefore, I want them all kept out of women's spaces. I include my beloved younger brother and all my male friends in that.

This black clad, masked man with a hand at a woman's throat doesn't look like he's trying to have a respectful discussion.

Why must this argument always drag in people with DSD.

They are not trans 🤷🏻‍♀️

Spirallingdownwards · 20/04/2025 12:21

Unfortunately this is MN. You won't get a balanced view on this subject. Any thread is hijacked by those with very anti trans views and those who are in the live and let live brigade are out shouted.

My own view is that trans women should not be allowed to compete in women's sport but other than that each person is an individual and should be judged as that individual. There are evil men and evil women and evil trans men and evil trans women but there are also good people in every category too. Judge the person not the group.

I know there will be people who disagree with my view about the sport issue too. I am simply saddened that there is so much hatred towards other people whether that's based on race, religion, sexual preference or sexuality.

Bravo! This, exactly. This is a sensible, balanced viewpoint.

This is not true. The UN only last year (2024) adopted an international resolution on the rights of intersex people using the language of intersex. Please stop assuming consensus on subjects in which there is none and please stop spreading false information about subjects you clearly don’t understand .

Says the person describing the Supreme Court judgment as "fascism"????

That document repeatedly refers to people with DSDs as ‘persons with innate variations in sex characteristics (also known as Intersex persons)

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 20/04/2025 13:10

PowderRoom · 20/04/2025 11:54

For fuck sake. Sex is absolutely binary. And no one is suggesting trans lives ‘don’t matter’, only that the erosion of women as a biological/legal category matter more, and that trans people are going to have to work on other solutions that leave women’s rights undisturbed.

This

Im sick and tired of the hyperbole that -

Defending womens spaces, safety and dignity = denying trans people exist

So OP, how about your side of the discussion start to come up with some practical real ideas of how we can keep biological women safe before we start addressing any rights you feel this denys trans people?

Plus, for real balance we would need to see examples of Horrible TERFs holding placards inciting violence and hate on trans people (decapitating them, for example) or Twatter threads hoping trans people die in grease fires.

Bescuse one side of this argument are very happy to see women actually harmed for their cause.

Your opinion vs my opinion. Calling me "dishonest" is absolutely priceless coming from you!

Pluvia · 20/04/2025 13:11

I posted this yesterday but it applies here. It's from a brilliant essay by Kathleen Stock. Link to the entire article after the quote.

'...another big problem for transactivist campaigners was the restricted arsenal of argumentative weapons at their disposal. They couldn’t rely on reason or evidence as these concepts are commonly understood, because no good arguments for transubstantiation by means of lip gloss existed. This left only three options: intellectual misdirection, emotional blackmail, and aggressively shaming opponents into silence.

The result of the first of these was fancy-sounding obfuscation about spectrums, social constructs, and the supposedly close relation between trans-identified and so-called intersex people. But this was only ever likely to work with the young or dull-witted, while cleverer minds watched and learned from the mistakes.'

Serencwtch · 20/04/2025 13:11

Yawn, for the umpteenth time - no one is taking away any rights from trans people - they still have the protected characteristic of being transgender & have every right to fight to protect that.

However, what they cannot do is change sex & there are times when sex really does matter & women have every right to protect women only spaces.

Your own lesbian group still has the right to allow trans women but mine also has the right to legally exclude trans women. Everyone has a choice.

Just to add, a lot of the behaviours he talks about were very much on display during the protests yesterday. Clear as day when you look through the clinical psychiatric lens.

That was very interesting. Thanks for posting. Explains a lot

Why do you agree that transwomen should be excluded from women's sports, but not women's prisons, rape counselling, hospital words, domestic violence shelters, changing rooms?

You are so very wrong in so many ways its hard to know where to start.
I don't hate anyone for what they are, I hate them for what they do.
TW do not pass as female, they hope they do and because women don't point and scream "MAN" at them some even believe it
I do not want TW to not exist and I acknowldege that they do.
I care about their safety as much as I care about the safety of any other group I am not part of but not as much as I do about a group I AM a part of (women)
What you ARE right about is that I do not want ANY man, no matter what surgery he has had or whatever he wears in a cubicle next to me or in my toilets. I include my DS and DH in that by the way.

FOJN · 20/04/2025 13:13

Tandora · 20/04/2025 12:50

Nope. I mean to avoid giving the completely wrong impression that that’s what these protests are all about by cherry picking a few bad apples and presenting/ publicising only that side of the story.

It’s exactly like when people try to deflect/ detract from the really legitimate aims (and tactics) of protests for Palestine by trying to paint all protesters as supporters of terrorism.

These protests were a peaceful demonstration against a dangerous form of fascism which is taking greater and greater hold of UK institutions in recent years.

I wouldn't describe vandalism, placards inciting violence and the assault of two women peaceful.

Still waiting for an answer to that one.

TheCatsTongue · 20/04/2025 13:13

@Tandora Can you define trans for me please? What is the minimum requirement for being trans?

Snorlaxo · 20/04/2025 13:14

Trans People Exist and Will Always Exist - I don’t understand who has said that they don’t exist ? So much hyperbole around trans existence that people won’t understand unless TRA explain my previous question.

Predatory Men are the Problem Not Us- nobody has said that all trans people are predators. We have single sex spaces because biological women are safer in single sex spaces sometimes. Nobody is saying that all men are predators but there’s no way to tell who the predators are.

Sex is not binary - Sex is binary, gender is not. Sometimes babies need medical help to work out which sex they are but it’s very unusual.

Trans Lives Matter- Nobody has said they don’t! GC women welcomes the Equality Act making discrimination due to gender reassignment illegal so that a trans man retains the same maternity rights as a woman. People who push this slogan want to say “trans lives matter more than women’s lives” which is the ultimate misogynistic view.

This lesbian thinks that trans women are women - The only reasonable placard. It’s her personal opinion and we live in a place where she can say that.

What is your opinion on transmen’s voices not being heard as much as transwomen’s voices over this issue ? Is it because transwomen are more misogynistic towards biological women or the world is more misogynistic towards transmen because they are biological women?
