Trans protest- sharing for balance

1000 replies

Tandora · 20/04/2025 11:47

There’s a thread sharing some really awful images from the protest, so I wanted to share some positive ones for the sake of some perspective/ balance.
A lot of people are really understandably incredibly angry and overwhelmed by the events of the last few days. But most people who support trans rights absolutely don’t condone fighting oppression and injustice with misogyny.

I recognise Transwomen for who they are - Transwomen. I'm one who wouldn't (and hasn't in the past) have a problem with a fully transitioned Transwoman using female toilets.

My problem comes when I try to define exactly where a Transwoman crosses that line to become one. Is it at full surgery? Is it after x months of hormone treatment? Is it at the first moment they start fully "living as a woman"? Or is it the first time they try on a dress? Or the first time they have a non-stereotypical male thought like disliking football & loving crocheting?

You see from my point of view, there needs to be a line because otherwise anyone and everyone can claim "women's" privileges and rights. Whenever a line has been fuzzy in the past, when a line hasn't been clearly defined, and I'm not particularly talking about this subject but many others as well, then people will take that extra inch until that becomes the norm, then take the next inch and the next and so on until the line may as well not exist at all.

Well your perspective is much more nuanced than most and I appreciate you for that.

I have repeatedly explained the science behind sex, gender and transness, including posting links to all kinds of research: it is of zero interest to the vast majority of mumsnetters . People are not interested, they have already decided what they believe and they are completely radicalised into that singular viewpoint.

Great, you can move on now then can't you? Were not interested in pandering to misogynistic men, you finally get it.

Supporting trans people = dismantling patriarchy

No it’s really not. It’s part of male power to not accept women’s lack of consent on this.

Look at how women are not listened to, including this thread.

Snorlaxo · 20/04/2025 13:59

Is sex isn’t binary then why do TRA say TWAW and want to be part of the binary choice of man and woman?

I would support TWATW as would many people who don’t believe that TWAW.

AnSolas · 20/04/2025 13:59

ThisFluentBiscuit · 20/04/2025 13:06

Not true; TERFs don't want a trans woman in the cubicle next to them even if she's had her penis and balls removed and has had lots of hormone therapy, and passes completely as female. TERFs still don't want them there and they are unconcerned about what harm might come to her if she uses the men's, post-transition. See the recent thread on here ("How to live in the female gender") written by someone who has fully transitioned and was told by numerous posters to stay out of female toilets. TERFs are completely and utterly compromising, they don't want transwomen to exist, they deny that they exist, and they don't care about their safety. It's the new hate.

And yet under trans ideology a woman who calls herself a man (passing or not) expected to be safe if using the mens?

Its a bit of a conundrum

Scentbird · 20/04/2025 13:59

The only people trying to erase trans women are the people pretending transwomen are women.

Tandora · 20/04/2025 13:59

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 20/04/2025 13:57

@Tandora
Could you explain something please?
Do you think there is any biological difference between

  1. someone who was born female (XX chromosomes and observed female genitalia at birth) and
  2. someone who was born male (XY chromosomes and observed male genitalia at birth) but as an adult declares themselves to be a woman.

If you do recognise a difference do you think those two distinct groups of people should be treated in exactly the same way in everything in life (Sport, Medical treatment, prison locations, female changing rooms etc.)?

Edited

Do I think there is any biological difference between those two groups? Of course.

Do I think that they should be treated exactly the same for all purposes? No.

@Tandora But do you agree that no Trans persons rights have been removed by the ruling by the supreme court ?

BundleBoogie · 20/04/2025 14:00

Tandora · 20/04/2025 11:54

The point is that you are completely wrong about that and it is deeply oppressive to try to enforce policies that say so.

I think you’ll find that Scottish Egg is absolutely right.

Men that identify as women are as similar to women as any other man.

And if a man who identifies as a woman wore the same clothes as me ie. Sweatshirt, jeans and trainer, no make up etc no one would ever spot that he was trying to identify as a woman. What does that tell you?

andtheworldrollson · 20/04/2025 14:00

I haven’t seen any postings of science behind transgender- apart from a few years back that were laughable ? I rather think if there was credible science it would greatly help

If you insist that trans women are men you are absolutely erasing trans people

They are men(literally) whose feelings might get a bit hurt , not fucking Tinker Bell!

"The science" of TRAs is akin to 'the science' of anti-vaxxers. There is no science to support dismantling women's rights in favour of an inner, unverifiable identity that aligns with social stereotypes.

Well that is some balanced good faith you’re displaying.

The mere fact that you’re framing this as anti trans rather than the women’s rights and equalities frame speaks entire libraries.

I always change my mind if I’m proved wrong, Tandora. I want knowledge and facts not dogma. I’ve never seen anything that proves men can become women.

There was a lengthy one on a thread just yesterday about this judgement . Only one person engaged to say “yawn, don’t you have anything better to do, we’re not interested” or words to that effect.

Let's face it, trans have exactly the same rights as non trans under the EA. Exactly the same.

The issue for them (not all but TRA anyway) is that they want, demand and insist that in addition to equal EA rights they want the right to encroach female only spaces.

That's the nub of it for me. If they agree to use third spaces the issue is resolved to most people's satisfaction. But their raison d'etre is to access women's spaces, so a third space will never be good enough.

That's the reality isn't it?

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 20/04/2025 14:02

Thank you for the response. So as a follow up question - what do you believe the differences in the treatment of those two groups of individuals should be?

LadyBracknellsHandbagg · 20/04/2025 14:02

😂😂 Men telling women to believe things that aren’t true in order to benefit men is the very definition of the patriarchy. Rarely have I come across someone as utterly brainwashed as this. Read some history about the fight for women’s rights ffs, preferably that was written by actual, biological women and not men role playing.

"Only men could oppress women for thousands of years, then turn around, put on a dress, and complain that they are the most marginalized group in society."
