Trans protest- sharing for balance

1000 replies

Tandora · 20/04/2025 11:47

There’s a thread sharing some really awful images from the protest, so I wanted to share some positive ones for the sake of some perspective/ balance.
A lot of people are really understandably incredibly angry and overwhelmed by the events of the last few days. But most people who support trans rights absolutely don’t condone fighting oppression and injustice with misogyny.

This man is a clinical psychiatrist with over 20 years clinical experience treating trans patients

It is well worth a watch as he puts the trans position on a clinical footing and makes some very astute observations based on real world experience.

Thank you for the link, very interesting and worth watching.

Why are they positive? They’re self serving, terminatory and meaningless.

andtheworldrollson · 20/04/2025 13:47

“Beyond devastating “

guess they finally know what women have been feeling? Does that increase their empathy for what women have been living though?

transwomen -“ I don’t want to be with any men”

women - “ I don’t want to be with any men”

transowmen “ but we are not men “

women “ you haven’t fooled me “

transwoman “ we just want to live our lives without fear”

woman “ but your behaviour is just like any other man’s and I would like to live without fear “

You do not speak to women. You speak for yourself.
The majority of protesters have been women.

So why don’t the reasonable people utterly condemn and push out the folk calling for violence and murder? How come so often those people get the microphone at events and get to stand next to MPs, MSPs etc with their awful signs knowing they will get in the press? If the reasonable trans activists had loudly said years ago “no, men with beards, men who commit violent and sexual acts against women and children, men who aggressively push to get into rape and domestic violence centres etc are NOT women” that would definitely have helped the cause. Instead they said ALL trans women ARE women, it is bigoted to question them etc.

i meant to quote this-

try listening then.

We have.

and it doesn’t make sense. All that’s happened in biological fact has been reiterated.

It appears to be tantrums because they can’t have access to women’s spaces. Almost like that’s the priority for them.

and again, you example of the other side of the story is transphobic itself. So still doesn’t make sense

The protesters are protesting a dangerous new variety of fascism that has taken increasing hold of the public discourse and our public institutions

Except they are not. They are protesting the removal of the "right" (which never actually existed under the law in any case) for biological males to gain entry at will to spaces that have been reserved for women in order to protect their safety and wellbeing.

It is not "a new type of fascism" for women to assert their rights under the law.

It is not "a new type of fascism" for women to seek to protect themselves through the provision of single sex spaces.

The narrative that did take hold of our public discourse and our public institutions for an extended period was the narrative that women should make compromises with regard to their own safety and wellbeing in other to validate the feelings of a certain sub-group of biological males. The SC judgment has now clarified that women's rights are protected under the law and that we don't need to do that.

I do understand that some trans people will be very unhappy about this judgment, and I recognise that some may indeed be very worried about it. I absolutely support the creation of safe third spaces in which trans women can feel safe from male violence. I just don't want those spaces for transwomen to be provided at the expense of the safety of women.

And you can bandy the term "fascism" about all you like, but your use of the term reflects more about your own lack of understanding of the word than it does about the feminists who are seeking to safeguard the rights of women.

BreatheAndFocus · 20/04/2025 13:46

A new fascism? What? Biology?? You’ll be freaking out when I tell you there are other sciences too! One even insists the earth isn’t flat! Unbelievable fascism!

The type of fascism that is taking hold has nothing to do with science.

I have explained the science over and over again on anti-trans threads on mumsnet , very few people are interested in reading or engaging with it.

I actually think that this ruling is a good thing for Transpeople
The law has been clarified
TW can stop fighting for things they can never get and focus on establishing rights for transpeople that ARE achievable - ie 3rd spaces
Transmen seem to actually matter too for once
Now we know that TW cannot come into women only spaces women can drop their guard a bit and even actually try and help Transpeople (in theory)
Predators can no longer use being Trans as get out of jail (or into a womens jail) free card so it will hopefully stop men who are using their Trans status to get their rocks off or get softer treatment will stop.
This should all mean that genuine TW and TM who just want to live their lives and enjoy the rights they are entitled to can do so more easily now.

Yes a very good point @Hoppinggreen .

Peony1897 · 20/04/2025 13:48

Tandora · 20/04/2025 13:42

I genuinely don't understand why TW are so upset ?

then try listening .
what is happening is beyond devastating for the trans community and others.

Then they’ll just have to be devastated.

LadyBracknellsHandbagg · 20/04/2025 13:43

Neither of these things exist. One is a woman and the other is a man. Even a two year old can tell the difference.

How do you tell? You cannot be serious. It's obvious!

And what was happening to women was outrageous, wrong and ridiculous.

Trans have many rights not to be discriminated against etc, but nobody has the right not to be offended

It's devastating that they are not (and have never been allowed) to access female single sex services where safety and dignity are important? That they are no longer allowed to force themselves into single sex rape crisis services, single sex hospital wards and the female prison estate?

I really think you need to consider the optics on this and why this 'devastation' has manifested itself into an outpouring of death threads towards women.

(Hint - its hatred of women saying no)

TheOtherRaven · 20/04/2025 13:49

If someone feels they can only 'exist' as their inner self if everyone agrees to enable this for them? They have a major problem on several fronts.

Not everyone ever can or will be controlled, and they are going to experience constant disappointment and distress. And basically, not everyone will consent to do this for them, and why should they? Other people have their own lives and beliefs, and it's not a reasonable or appropriate demand to make.

Third spaces are not hateful and transphobic.

Agreed - the cisoleth mantras are being heavily deployed along with the usual thought terminating cliches that never offer the next 10 words.

EverythingElseIsTaken · 20/04/2025 12:45

She actually either avoids using the toilets or uses the disabled (which she is entitled to use as she IS disabled) but I do wonder why if I as a woman am in danger from men, why isn’t my friend (who looks very feminine - petite 5’ 4”, nicely made up, good hair, lovely clothes etc.) in danger from men? She honestly feels that it would be dangerous to use the male toilets but she does respect that biological women can be unhappy about her using their spaces. I think it’s a difficult situation.
She doesn’t claim to be a woman incidentally - she describes herself as transgender.

So who else do we allow in? All men irrespective of their GI if they are short? Old men? Gay men? Men who were bulli d at school?

Trans people have been sold a lie, and they should be angry, but with those that sold them the lie, not with women who are the ones who’s actual rights have been affected.

You’re going to be shouting into a void for a very long time because now that the law has been clarified, you can no longer bully women into accepting that TWAW. As we have always known, they are men, and we have recourse to the law in order to protect us from this insidious ideology.

Well obvs.

Another caretaking role for women to perform.

Patriarchy innit. Conforming is almost a life or death decision. See what happens to the out group if you're unclear on how much free choice women actually have on this.

Second one. They do not want third spaces.
