Trans protest- sharing for balance

1000 replies

Tandora · 20/04/2025 11:47

There’s a thread sharing some really awful images from the protest, so I wanted to share some positive ones for the sake of some perspective/ balance.
A lot of people are really understandably incredibly angry and overwhelmed by the events of the last few days. But most people who support trans rights absolutely don’t condone fighting oppression and injustice with misogyny.

The point is that you are completely wrong about that and it is deeply oppressive to try to enforce policies that say so.

We're not, Dr Robert Winston is not, the SC is not. What's oppressive is the way women's boundaries have been ignored and abused for a decade. Unfortunately for you, the massive bubble of fear in saying the emperor is naked was popped this week, and the silent majority have seen what's been happening

VickyEadieofThigh · 20/04/2025 13:36

Well, this was posted on this thread today and seems to imply what many of us have seen many times on social media - the suggestion of being "born in the wrong body", which suggests that either there's a belief in the gendered brain OR in the gendered soul...

Exactly. Which suggests what about women? That we choose to be women? That we choose to identify with a subordinate position in society?

Scentbird · 20/04/2025 13:42

Tandora · 20/04/2025 13:37

perfect example right here

No it’s not.

Read it again. Transwomen are man. Which they are. They still exist. No one is pretending there aren’t men who prefer to dress is a stereotypically female way. Or want to appear as women.

But they are still men. They don’t disappear if you acknowledge the truth. Biologically they are men. It’s in every cell of their body.

If believing transwomen are actually male made them disappear, there wouldn’t be any transwomen would there?

Tandora · 20/04/2025 13:35

Trans people need to be recognised for who they are. Not othered and outed every time they need to use a basic public facility

Trans people we see you. And we usually recognise you quickly. Especially the transwomen. Use the male public facility. You'll fit right in, large hands, Adams apple, deep voice, square shoulders no hips and all the bells and whistles.

If you think it is outing because men will know you are trans then you are outed already. Women clocked you ages ago.

And if the men are mean, we'll stand side by side with you and protest that.

You don't get to trample over women's rights because you are too scared to do what is right.

Tandora · 20/04/2025 13:42

I genuinely don't understand why TW are so upset ?

then try listening .
what is happening is beyond devastating for the trans community and others.

I’m happy to switch out the word “men” with “people with penises” as that’s broadly what I mean.

I have a friend who is a trans woman. She has breasts (hormones gave her those) and she does not have a penis (I don’t know the details of how it all works but she had her penis surgically removed).

So is it okay for her to use the ladies toilets? She surely can’t use a urinal and can’t attack anyone with her non existent male genitalia…..

Im genuinely interested. I am happy to use her female name and her chosen pronouns. I’m happy to go out to lunch with her etc. but I do understand women who want female only places.

If I identify as disabled and decide to cut my arm off - would I be given the opportunity to have an operation to do this? Or would I be given mental health support?

so why are people who identify as the opposite sex allowed to mutilate themselves?

aylis · 20/04/2025 13:43

FOJN · 20/04/2025 13:38

Oh stop it. "Words are literal violence" is so 2018. People don't evaporate just because other people use accurate language to describe them.

Literal violence except when they're on a TRA placard, of course.

SigourneyHoward · 20/04/2025 13:43

Its a mass extinction burst in full view isn't it?

For clarity, I am not suggesting extinction of trans people, rather referring to the concept of an increase in frequency, duration, intensity of undesired behaviours when reinforcement is withheld. I saw it with my dd's anorexia.

MzHz · 20/04/2025 13:43

Tandora · 20/04/2025 11:54

No, it really isn’t deeply oppressive to clarify that people are born with a sex that isn’t changeable.

what gender they use is up to them, but it doesn’t change their dna or their sex.

Minuethippo · 20/04/2025 13:40

How is anyone telling the difference between a cis woman and a trans woman ?

Edited

Neither of these things exist. One is a woman and the other is a man. Even a two year old can tell the difference.

Tandora · 20/04/2025 13:43

Dymaxion · 20/04/2025 13:41

I genuinely don't understand why TW are so upset ? No rights have been removed from them have they ?
All that has happened is that the SC have clarified the law, regarding where biological sex can be seen as a reasonable reason for not giving access to those of the other biological sex.

i meant to quote this-

try listening then.

So @Tandora who do you think trans people actually are - because you have dismissed everything other than trans women are women. But why? We can label something anything we want but simply labelling it as so doesn’t make it true and it certainly doesn’t mean others have to believe it.

One truth is that everyone has the right to live the life that they want peacefully and safely- but the world doesn’t let them. And it certainly doesn’t mean that one persons right to do so ca impinge on others. Checks and balances and compromises are needed.

the most dangerous thing in all of this - the one thing that impacted the most on women and trans women was Stonewall belief that anyone can identify as what they want without those checks and balances being in play.

Naunet · 20/04/2025 13:44

Tandora · 20/04/2025 13:33

This is about so much more than chromosomes. This is very black and white thinking that has very little to do with reality

Yes because reality is all about manmade sexist stereotypes, boob jobs and long hair, it's all about mystical, undefined lady feelz.

Tandora · 20/04/2025 13:35

Third spaces are not hateful and transphobic.

SmegmaCausesBV · 20/04/2025 13:44

Men who don't get why this ruling is so key for women are the problem.

I believe most terfs are concerned about the minority, the women in domestic violence shelters, rape crisis centres, in hospital and prison rather than who is peeing in the cubile next to them in John Lewis.

Speak for yourself. I certainly don't want that, and I don't think most women do.

Even less so in an age of phones, given the general state of men's public bathrooms, and given the apparent propensity of some TRAs to scatter urine about in protest. No.

PonyPatter44 · 20/04/2025 13:45

Why not go and tell Prof Winston that he is in fact, a fascist, and see how that works out for you?

VeraWangTea · 20/04/2025 13:45

That is a two way street and after years of not being listened to women have had enough.

TheKeatingFive · 20/04/2025 13:45

Tandora · 20/04/2025 13:43

It's basically tantrums from men because they can't access women's spaces.

Saved you all the trouble.

The protesters are protesting a dangerous new variety of fascism that has taken increasing hold of the public discourse and our public institutions

A new fascism? What? Biology?? You’ll be freaking out when I tell you there are other sciences too! One even insists the earth isn’t flat! Unbelievable fascism!

Tandora · 20/04/2025 13:46

VeraWangTea · 20/04/2025 13:45

You do not speak to women. You speak for yourself.
The majority of protesters have been women.

OuterSpaceCadet · 20/04/2025 13:46

It's inherently misogynist to assert that there's no such thing as humans of the female sex class. It's inherently misogynist to obscure/ deny the fact that women currently face and have always faced oppression on the basis of their sex class. It is inherently misogynist to think it possible to identify into women's oppression and to take women's places and say you represent women when you are not a woman.

I'm pleased many protesters aren't themselves violent or specifically inciting violence but it's a bit of a low fucking bar. Just perpetuating misogyny in a society where the price women pay is actual violence, actual loss of livelihood, actual rape and actual murder every single fucking day is shit.

I call this shit out like I'd call out the hatred and bias against any other group when it's a privileged class of human punching down. My biggest anger is for the university educated male so called allies with no skin in the game. My equal biggest anger is for the straight male chancers claiming special identity for nefarious reasons. YOU are both the kinds of men women are scared to share spaces with and half of you have special pronouns. I'm cross with the gay and autistic kids but I have empathy for their struggles. I'm more cross with the middle class virtue signalling parents bank rolling their special darlings whilst patting themselves on the back.

If I saw my son participate in this I'd move heaven and earth to educate him about the errors in his thinking.

Why are these protests perpetuating misogyny rather than asking honestly for the rights they believe trans people need? Do trans people actually want safety or is just women's bodies for validation and gratification?

It's the same fucking misogyny the right wing do, dudes.
