Suicide rates and being spoken out of existence

A lot of transwomen / people unfortunately won't survive this. Feeling like you're being legislated or spoken out of existence, especially when you're already part of a group at such high risk for mental health struggles and suicide, is devastating. It’s not just policy or rhetoric — it’s lived impact. Much like the way the awful section 28 law impacted gays - every time identity is debated like it’s theoretical or optional, it chips away at a person's sense of worth. It's so sad. You’re not welcome, not valid, not safe — can hit deep

The word woman was spoken out of existence. So while I feel sorry for anyone struggling, perhaps they could have considered the implications of their behaviour.

Needspaceforlego · 19/04/2025 22:04

Well what do you want to do about it?

Women deserve to have single sex spaces, for their dignity and freedom.

myplace · 19/04/2025 22:04

The words associated with woman being erased from policy- chest feeding, mother, woman no longer meaning those of us who’d had all
the complications and harassment that being a woman came with- and our word was no longer reserved for us? And you are the one being erased? I think not.

2024onwardsandup · 19/04/2025 22:05

It’s never about trans men is it. Funny that.

TheWiseGoose · 19/04/2025 22:06

There are many reasonable trans women, but the very loud minority have literally been mansplaining women in their space, sports etc the past few years. It has to stop.

Itchybritches · 19/04/2025 22:06

I’m genuinely sorry about anything that happens because if it, but as PP has said, similar sensitivity was not shown when the word ‘woman’ was being happily eradicated. I genuinely hope that a less aggressive approach will get transgender people the spaces and support they need.

Planetmonster · 19/04/2025 22:07

Sigh

what are you drivelling on about? Everyone continues in their existence, they just now have to be bound by reality. people can’t change biological sex.

stay in your lane. If you don’t have a lane then get one created. Don’t hang out where you are not welcome.

Neodymium · 19/04/2025 22:07

Blame trans women like that one at the rally last year who said to ‘punch terfs in the fucking face’. To a cheering crowd.

maybe if trans people had collectively condemned that kind of behaviour instead of encouraging it, then people would have more sympathy.

atamlin · 19/04/2025 22:08

Why can’t you just accept that you aren’t a woman? You’re a transwoman. Insinuating you won’t survive not being called a woman and suggesting many will take their own lives is bonkers and why you need good mental health support.

crunchynuts12345 · 19/04/2025 22:08

@Needspaceforlego

Like with Section 28, silence helped harm flourish.
So please check in on your trans friends/loved ones. Don't generalise an entire group of humans. Most trans people are quietly trying to live their lives.

“CrunchyNuts” Hmm

myplace · 19/04/2025 22:09

In fact, your OP is classic narcissism. We had to go to court to reclaim our word and YOU are the one struggling?!

Noone tried to deny your right to be trans. No one tried to take your word and apply it to whatever they wanted it to mean. I wouldn’t dream of telling you I know what it means to be trans, that I too am trans, that I need to join your support groups and get your additional equality protections.

That was what you did to us. So stop with the DARVO.

maslab · 19/04/2025 22:09

But your rights haven’t changed? They’ve simply been clarified.

@Planetmonster Have you ever spoken to a trans person?

“If you don’t do what I want I’ll kill myself!”

Isn’t that that kind of language abusers use?

Voice0fReason · 19/04/2025 22:11

Why are suicide rates higher in trans people?
What would help that, bearing in mind that women exist and our sex based rights must be respected?
Trans people exist, they are as welcome as any other person in society.
They can't change sex.

SatanicAngel · 19/04/2025 22:11

Have you ever spoken to a woman?

HappyHunting101 · 19/04/2025 22:11

You're so right in that it's not theoretical. If you are born a male you can be a trans woman, but you cannot be a biological woman.

There's always going to be a difference and asking people to pretend, especially in a way that infringes on biological women's rights and safety is never going to be ok. Ever.

crunchynuts12345 · 19/04/2025 22:11

@SatanicAngel You’re telling me to fuck off because I’m worried people will take their own lives over this? That says a lot. What exactly are you afraid of? I genuinely don’t get it. For the record, I’m a woman — a big, raging lesbian and a therapist who actually works with people affected by this kind of hate. So yeah, I care. A lot

‘Most trans people are quietly trying to live their lives.’

this is a lie tho Isn’t it?

I have been at Let Women speak meetings and women only meetings and there were groups of shouting masked individuals baying outside. Bigot ! Etc etc

so it’s not true. This myth of the poor poor lovely damaged transwoman now so scared because the law has been clarified.

cop on love

myplace · 19/04/2025 22:15

TRAs have hounded individual women, organised actions against them and whipped the police into harrassing investigations. Women have been held in cells overnight, their tech removed for years, arrested in front of their children… where were you calling for peace and light then, eh?

And yes, I’ve spoken to trans people. I’m massively pissed off that the lovely young woman I knew has been fooled into taking hormones and ruining her health in the hope of something that will never, never work.

FleaDog · 19/04/2025 22:15

when you're already part of a group at such high risk for mental health struggles and suicide

Much like the (often due to service pressures undiagnosed) autistic and / or ND young people that have often been guidedbto believe if they feel at odds with the world it mist be trans and cause shitloads of issues for families: charities and orgabisatiobs being suggested as suppprt that then jave access to a yoilung person without parental consent, yhreaten to make LADO / safeguarding referrals if parents try to raise concerns, have no training in ND / autism or counselling etc and go down a one track of trans being the issue and manipulate vulnerable people for their own cause?

Did you mean that group?

Becuase that is the slimmest, briefest snapshot I can give of the utter fucking catastrophe that many families have faced with ongoing consequences thanks to this shitstorm.

So save the tears for those poor vulnerable young people fucked over by this.

I am so angry I can't coherently explain this as I want to, and asI and many others haven't been able to die to the fuckingvshambles of noone being able to speak up about this shit without being anilihated.
