Suicide rates and being spoken out of existence

crunchynuts12345 · 19/04/2025 21:59

A lot of transwomen / people unfortunately won't survive this. Feeling like you're being legislated or spoken out of existence, especially when you're already part of a group at such high risk for mental health struggles and suicide, is devastating. It’s not just policy or rhetoric — it’s lived impact. Much like the way the awful section 28 law impacted gays - every time identity is debated like it’s theoretical or optional, it chips away at a person's sense of worth. It's so sad. You’re not welcome, not valid, not safe — can hit deep

A lot of us on here are also supporting gender questioning young people, friends and family members. How presumptive of you to assume we aren’t. We just know that buying into a false ideology doesn’t help them and it certainly doesn’t help anyone else.

crunchynuts12345 · 19/04/2025 22:27

@Snorlaxo Yes
@Witchymadwoman I didn't say legislated I said spoken
@wrongthinker Alright, I’ll ‘behave’ by continuing to be concerned about the suicide rates and mental health of a marginalised group — because that’s my actual lived experience, both as a lesbian and as a therapist who works with the LGBT+ community. If that makes people uncomfortable, they might want to ask themselves why

Your post said “Feeling like you're being legislated or spoken out of existence”.

my question stands

skilpadde · 19/04/2025 22:30

Would a real, actual, authentic therapist engage in this irresponsible, contemptible fantasy of increased suicides / suicide ideation, just to use trans people as a weapon and therefore a means of pushing gender ideology?

LuxuryWoman2020 · 19/04/2025 22:31

OP, if you're a lesbian who truly believes TWAW then presumably you'd be open to a relationship with a Trans woman who still has a fully functioning penis?

People should be free to live how they want, wear what they want and live peacefully. That includes biological women.

MagpiePi · 19/04/2025 22:31

crunchynuts12345 · 19/04/2025 22:10

@Planetmonster Have you ever spoken to a trans person?

Apparently all the time without even knowing, because no one can ever tell…

miraxxx · 19/04/2025 22:32

Emotive, manipulative bullshite.

myplace · 19/04/2025 22:32

If your clients are feeling’spoken out of existence’ then I suggest you help them reframe that fear into something more realistic and rational. Indulging it won’t do them any favours at all.

whitewineandsun · 19/04/2025 22:32

myplace · 19/04/2025 22:09

In fact, your OP is classic narcissism. We had to go to court to reclaim our word and YOU are the one struggling?!

Noone tried to deny your right to be trans. No one tried to take your word and apply it to whatever they wanted it to mean. I wouldn’t dream of telling you I know what it means to be trans, that I too am trans, that I need to join your support groups and get your additional equality protections.

That was what you did to us. So stop with the DARVO.

This a million times.

crunchynuts12345 · 19/04/2025 22:33

@iheartmysmartThis isn't about women's rights. It's about control, fear, and scapegoating. And ironically, it's going to hurt actual women — including butch and masc-presenting lesbians

walliceandme · 19/04/2025 22:33

Rights haven't changed. They been verbally and publicly clarified. Trans people are trans people, not transwomen or transmen, because you can't physically become the opposite gender/sex. It's utterly ridiculous that this even had to go through the court for it to become 'officially' known that transwomen are NOT women. We have been degraded for years and finally our voice has been heard. It's exhausting.

Karasis · 19/04/2025 22:33

Women aren't even mentioned in this. Don't even count. Except as "hating" entities getting in the way of trans people.

crunchynuts12345 · 19/04/2025 22:20

@Leafstamp What narrative am I pushing, exactly? I’m not. I’m just saying — see the individual, not the movement. Same thing I’d say to a racist: don’t reduce people to a group you’ve decided to fear or hate. Start with basic humanity

Do you mean look beyond the individuals holding the disgusting, threatening placards at the marches today or the ones threatening violence against ‘terfs’? Where is their humanity?
I don’t think you get to tell us how to think or how to be empathetic. Individuals make up a movement.

FOJN · 19/04/2025 22:33

crunchynuts12345 · 19/04/2025 22:11

@SatanicAngel You’re telling me to fuck off because I’m worried people will take their own lives over this? That says a lot. What exactly are you afraid of? I genuinely don’t get it. For the record, I’m a woman — a big, raging lesbian and a therapist who actually works with people affected by this kind of hate. So yeah, I care. A lot

Edited

Stop repeating lies about trans people taking their own lives. Someone has posted the article which debunks it further up thread. It's dishonest and irresponsible.

It is absolutely about women's rights to single-sex spaces, why do you so arrogantly completely dismiss that? Why would women want to "control" or scapegoat trans people?

It would be nice if the ‘trans community’ (as they style themselves) could see women as individuals and not just a prop to validate the desires of men but here we are.

It would be nice if people could have some empathy for women rather than posting poor attempts at emotional blackmail and comparing us to racists.

You’re not Nancy Kelley are you?

TheOtherRaven · 19/04/2025 22:34

Did you mind as much when this kind of thing was happening to women? Legislated and spoken out of existence, the lived impacts including a never ending stream of violent threats which were usually sexual, exclusion, harassment, assault and rape? The women who wouldn't go to refuges and stayed in lifethreatening situations because men wouldn't accept that women had needs too?

It is not up to women to suck up all this so that men are able to express themselves freely and not have mental health struggles. There are going to have to be other ways to support those men. Demanding to sacrifice women to their happiness is not ok.

Conxis · 19/04/2025 22:35

But why this now?
Trans people are fully protected in law and have EXACTLY the same rights as they had a week ago. The Judge stated this.
I hope everyone is reassuring any trans friends of this. They remain fully protected in law and, armed with this reassurance, should use their voice to fight for their own spaces and services

walliceandme · 19/04/2025 22:36

I also know a transperson (women to man) that started a go fund me to support the removal of her breasts. I cannot believe people actually donated. Shall I start one for my breast implants?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 19/04/2025 22:36

Leafstamp · 19/04/2025 22:17

Professor Louis Appleby, who is a researcher and government adviser on suicide has spoken against the type of narrative you are pushing @crunchynuts12345

It’s irresponsible and unfounded.

Yes. Grossly irresponsible in anyone, but for a therapist to weaponise this is appallingly unprofessional.

whitewineandsun · 19/04/2025 22:36

Iheartmysmart · 19/04/2025 22:30

Oh FFS, give over. Women have had pretty much everything taken from them due to #BeFuckingKind. Now we finally have some clarity and can start reclaiming what should have always been ours, transwomen are kicking off and having pathetic little mantrums because they’ve finally been told no. Pathetic.

It really is pathetic. But it must be difficult to suddenly not just being able to demand what they want and have it.

Welcome to living life like a woman.

If you think this isn't about women's rights, you haven't been listening, learning or thinking for the last decade. Wise up.

Nelly91 · 19/04/2025 22:37

I know a 19 yr old who did that. It only took her a couple of months to raise the funds. Surgery was very soon after 😢

Absolutely. The very last person who should be doing this, because they ought to know fucking better.
