To respond this way to sister criticising my diet?

I've been a vegetarian since 10 years old, now 35. My mum/dad have been supportive since the start but the same can not be said for my sister who constantly asks how I'm getting my protein, B12, nutrients etc and has since I've been a teenager.

She did it for the 1,000th time while we were out at a restaurant and instead of explaining for the 1,000th time I just asked her if there is any sort of nutritional/developmental deficiency why am I 6" taller than her, in far better shape than her and a multimillionaire while she regularly relies on our parents for money.

She didn't say anything for a second then raised her voice, asked what was wrong with me and stormed out. DF tried to get her to come back in but was unsuccessful and told me I shouldn't have said that but it was a long time coming.

AIBU to think this was a reasonable way to respond, keeping in mind I have told her over and over again to stop commenting on my diet?

The money comment is a bit out of order really the other stuff yes I’d say in relation to diet but the last stuff is too much

PowderMonkeys · 19/04/2025 13:05

Completely unreasonable. Just say ‘Same as the last 1000 times you asked, Linda. Shall we order?’

LadyKenya · 19/04/2025 13:06

What has how much you are worth, anything to do with this?

BlackBean2023 · 19/04/2025 13:06

That was unkind OP and you know it. You could have stopped at the height difference and made a point. The weight and money issue made it personal and crossed a line IMO.

MyUmberSeal · 19/04/2025 13:07

I was on your side until you made a pretentious comment about money and made yourself sound like a bellend.

P00hsticks · 19/04/2025 13:07

The point about your general health and shape was justified, but unless you've made your money publishing vegetarian cookbooks or similar, in my view the point about being a multimillionaire has nothing to do with it and was an unrelated and completely unnecessary mean dig.

Poppyseeds79 · 19/04/2025 13:07

Did everyone not clap and cheer OP? What does being a multimillionaire have to do with being a vegetarian?

I wish I'd been there!

I think you made a bit of a tit of yourself there…

This

nessiesnotreal · 19/04/2025 13:08

Wow that was mean. I mean what the fuck does it matter that you are taller and in better shape and earn more?

Sounds like you think you are just overall better than her in every way.

MissyB1 · 19/04/2025 13:08

Wow all I had to do to become a multi millionaire was to become vegetarian! Who knew??!

SparklyBrickViper · 19/04/2025 13:08

Uncalled for.

Being a multimillionaire vegetarian doesn’t make you superior.

I only mentioned money because she often comments on stuff related to brain development, dementia etc quite regularly and if I'm being honest I was just pissed off at hearing this for the 1,000th time.

That isn't to say I think rich = smart or poor = dumb because I know it's much more complex than that, but I do feel like it was justified in this case.

Yes, surely the whole restaurant broke into a round of applause, some diners waving their plates of chargrilled cauliflower in the air in support, while brandishing fistfuls of fifties?

yeesh · 19/04/2025 13:13

Multimillionaire 🤣 what a knob

I don’t have dementia, or an undeveloped brain but I’m not a millionaire so still, unrelated.

if I was a millionaire I probably wouldn’t rub people’s face in it though as my developed brain would tell me that’s not a nice thing to do.

Maybe I did go a bit overboard going by these responses...

Right, course you did! 🤣

You just wanted to get the boot in and tell her you're taller, thinner, and richer than her... And you think she scabs money off your parents.

I'd have told you to shove your carrots up your arse. You sound awful and smug.

GloriousGoosebumps · 19/04/2025 13:15

The short answer is that yes you were being unreasonable. The somewhat longer answer is that your sister deserved a sharp response. Bet she shuts up now!

CoraPirbright · 19/04/2025 13:17

Totally understand why you are at the end of your tether with this. It must be so bloody tedious. However you did lose the moral high ground with the money bit. Just the height/physical condition probably would have sufficed. However she sounds like an insufferable know-it-all so you still may not have made an impact sadly.

Yes this IMO. She deserved a stomping. Perhaps not the money one though.

It's funny thought how those who are happy to stick the boot in often (her to you0 don't much like it when the tables are turned.

thepariscrimefiles · 19/04/2025 13:23

Has there always been rivalry between you and your sister? 25 years is a long time for you to put up with her comments, and you weren't unreasonable to respond, but you have obviously chosen to mention all her insecurities. You could have mentioned the health/environmental and animal welfare benefits of a vegetarian diet, unless you have done this before and her comments haven't stopped.

She probably won't mention your vegetarianism again though.
