Would this bother you.

See my parents maybe 3 x per year, due to distance. My Dc had a party today, so Dh took her so I could stay home with my parents, who then proceeded to go out for a two hour walk, so i’m sat in the house alone, when I could’ve gone to the party and caught up with friends.
It’s the same if we decide to have a day at home if Dd is tired, they go out and don’t really spend time with us.

Aibu to be a bit put out by it?

it was glorious weather today, a day to be out walking. Not sitting in PJ’s watching tv that you could do anytime! I would have left too.

Did OP say where she was?

It wasn’t glorious eveywhere.

Tbrh · 18/04/2025 21:51

Well obviously why don't you say it would be nice to spend some time together and plan a few things. They probably want to give you some space or maybe want some space themselves. Personally I love having guests, but it's also nice when they go out so you get some down time too

Glitchymn1 · 18/04/2025 21:51

Voting is 50/50 so clearly others think YANBU. You don’t see each other much. If it’s just a couple of hours out of the day I personally don’t see the issue. It’s a little rude if you are mid conversation though.

Lovemelovemydogz · 18/04/2025 22:04

Wow 😂 so surprised people think it’s odd to stay at home for a day in pjs watching shows. They are my parents, I don’t see it as them being guests in such a formal way.
We’ve been out all week (aside from one day, they went for a walk as I was doing baking and crafts with Dd)
We’ve been for coffees, lunches, walks, beach, shopping each day. Today Dd had a party that pretty much lasted all afternoon, it didn’t occur to me to go out in the morning too to fill that time. We have a nice garden to relax in, tv etc, it doesn’t seem that odd to stay in for a day sometimes

What were you watching on TV? I’m intrigued because it would never occur to me to put the TV on in the day time while my parents or ILs were visiting!

"Hey mum/ dad, can I come on the walk too?"

I mean... just communicate.

This.

Not really odd that they went for a walk then op.

I don't see getting dressed as being formal 🤷‍♀️ it's takes two mins to put on leggings or jeans and a hoody. no matter who is staying in the house I get dressed.

LBFseBrom · 18/04/2025 22:15

They probably think they are doing the right thing by not being in your face all the time. Presumably you are together in the evening. It sounds fine to me.

Why?? 🙈 I find this weird…they’re staying for two weeks, the tv is on at times we’re at home. It’s my parents, we don’t sit around in a silent room, politely sipping tea from china cups

I regularly spend the day in PJ’s watching TV but if I was hosting my parents for two weeks then I’d at least have a shower and get changed first.

Oh and it was ‘The stolen girl’ on Disney. We’d started it the night before and were quite gripped. It was a rainy day on and off, dd was out and the car gone. I was really looking forward to binge watching the rest with an early easter egg with my mum…in my pjs

That’s probably the difference then, we don’t watch the TV in the day time anyway. So there’s no reason I’d put it on when my parents or in laws were here.

So, did you tell them that’s you wanted to do? Or at least ask?

Do you feel judged by them? I don’t feel the same, it’s my home, I wanted to feel comfy, I really don’t see an issue

No reason really, it just isn’t something we do. Never have. Nothing deep.

They knew dh was taking dd to a party and the car would be gone (meaning we couldn’t really go anywhere aside from a walk) and I told mum how excited I was to watch the rest as I never get time alone to watch series etc because of Dd (aside from when she’s in bed and i’m pretty tired by then)

I don’t feel remotely judged, I just don’t like sitting around all day in the clothes I’ve slept in. I feel so much better if I’ve had a shower and put on clean clothes, that’s all, especially if I have guests.

What do you do to fill the whole day if you don’t go out? Just curious. We don’t have it on all the time, but do at some points during the day usually

why can't you be comfy while dressed ? I really don't get this ? clothes should be comfortable if not your wearing the wrong type or the wrong size.
it lashed rain here all day today I watched telly a good bit today for a change my parents arrived and stayed two hours with me. but wasn't in my pyjamas was in jeans and a hoody comfy and cosy
