To think I can't be the only person who doesn't know a single trans person

VioletSpeedwell · 17/04/2025 22:58

Seriously.

The news is full of people worrying about how the SC ruling will affect people who identify as trans.

Where are they? Not in my office (large organisation), my family or social groups. I don't come across any in the village where I live or when I go into town.

DD is at university and doesn't know any trans people.

Surely, I can't be the only one?

I literally live next door to a trans person.

Pigeonqueen · 17/04/2025 23:00

And your point is?

Lots of us do know many. Are you trying to suggest they don’t exist?

ToKittyornottoKitty · 17/04/2025 23:02

I don’t really get your point, are you suggesting they aren’t around? Many people do no someone who is trans, I’m sure plenty also don’t.

IchiNiSanShiGo · 17/04/2025 23:02

How do you know the people you know aren’t trans? Have you seen their genitals or their GRC? Or can you “just tell”?.

VioletSpeedwell · 17/04/2025 23:03

Are you trying to suggest they don’t exist?

Not at all. I'm just amazed at the impact they've had when they are so few in number.

Same. It’s such a small minority of people… yet we are meant to bow down to this nonsense (I presume that’s what you’re getting at)

KrisAkabusi · 17/04/2025 23:03

How do you know? Unless you see them naked, you can't tell with a lot of people.

BlondeMummyto1 · 17/04/2025 23:04

I don’t know any either.

Waterlilysunset · 17/04/2025 23:04

I don’t know anyone trans

Helleofabore · 17/04/2025 23:04

I know quite a few. However, I live in a major city, perhaps that has something to do with it.

Exactly what I'm getting at. It's not like they're 51% of the population is it?

I know one, sadly obviously a middle aged man in awful clothes and unflattering and obvious wig. No real woman would leave the house looking like that. Screams "I'm a bloke".😔

My 17yo dd, when 13 had half the girls in her class identify as male. One has continued but also wears pink and likes “girl” stuff but is called he… I think they’re in too deep. Her year group was disproportionately trans. Dd2&3 don’t know any in their year (now 13). I do know 3 trans women - one is late 50s and looks like a bloke in a skirt with massive hands, one works on a farm locally and wears thick makeup including false eyelashes to do this job - I think I find that more bizarre than the fact they’re trans. One is younger - 20 - and autistic. The mum is very vocal about paying for her daughter’s vagina… I don’t comment but feel it’s not a vagina, it’s a hole.

I personally don’t have an issue someone being trans - they’re being open about how they feel. However, feelings can’t cancel out science and that’s the bit I don’t get on board with. I will respectfully call anyone what they want to be called with name or pronouns as language changes over time. But, I won’t deny science.

Oh god, the existence line. Give it a rest.

Shows your ignorance really. Hopefully the current media presence will help educate you. Minority groups mattering and making an impact shouldn’t be so surprising to you.

Lol oh you can just tell immediately.

NineteenSeventyNine · 17/04/2025 23:07

Depends what you mean by “trans”. People who’ve undergone gender reassignment surgery? No. Gender non-conforming people who call themselves queer or non-binary? Yes, several (I live in London and work with a lot of people in their 20s/30s).

Oh yes you can

NotTerfNorCis · 17/04/2025 23:08

I know two young people who got sucked into the gender identity movement, who almost certainly wouldn't have been 'trans' or 'non-binary' if they'd have been born a decade earlier.

Have also seen transwomen out and about. One has worked in the M&S ladies' changing rooms for many years.

Pyjamatimenow · 17/04/2025 23:08

If you work in schools there’s tons of them. I know one adult one as an acquaintance. I live in a small town and probably see at least one or two every week.

Ecocool · 17/04/2025 23:09

My neighbour....he was a complete loner in a block of 6 flats. He had a high position in the city council.

I found him in the communal garden dressed up in women's gear (very 60s).

That was 25 years ago. It shook me up but I had no idea really (naive). Was he transgender? What's the difference between transgender and perverted/fetished?

KrisAkabusi · 17/04/2025 23:09

Waterlilysunset · 17/04/2025 23:05

You what, I don’t think so!

You're wrong. As someone that actually knows a couple of trans people, it isn't always as simple as you think. There's one in particular, I knew for years before being told. I am 100 percent certain that the vast majority of people that know them are not aware.
