To think I can't be the only person who doesn't know a single trans person

Seriously.

The news is full of people worrying about how the SC ruling will affect people who identify as trans.

Where are they? Not in my office (large organisation), my family or social groups. I don't come across any in the village where I live or when I go into town.

DD is at university and doesn't know any trans people.

Surely, I can't be the only one?

I been watching a lot of news items the past couple of days and there's lots of "I'm worried about my trans friends. We stand with the trans community."

And I'm thinking, do you really know any trans people cos I bloody don't and think the majority don't.

Do you know what exactly they’re worried about? Genuine question, I really don’t understand what trans people want that they haven’t already got via Equality legislation.

But no, you said wearing a dress occasionally doesn't make someone trans. But... Why not? Why does a trans woman have to wear "women's" clothing in order to be trans? Why can't they wear a dress only occasionally?

Surely being trans isn't solely about clothes?

The guy the poster talked about was a guy who got caught in a ladies dress one time, far more likely to be a creep than trans. Some people can be trans and not total pervs, some people can be pervs but not transgender, some people are both…

A man who lives as a man, is a man. He might be a creep who occasionally wears a dress also. That’s not transgender.

A man who ‘changes’ to be a ‘woman’ and claims they are therefore a woman and should be allowed women’s rights is transgender.

And if you need more info, Google it.

I think you're confused. It's transphobic to gatekeep. Someone is transgender if they say they are.

The guy getting caught in a dress one time didn’t claim to be transgender… what are you on about?

Theunamedcat · 17/04/2025 23:46

TropicofCapricorn · 17/04/2025 23:26

So, you don't even have your own opinion about how often the clothes should be worn to make them trans. So why offer your opinion that occasional wearing doesn't make them trans?

I'm not derailing anything.

You're avoiding answering a very very simple question, after making a statement about how often wearing women's clothing makes someone trans.

I'm a woman I wear women's clothing everyday HTH

We had a non-binary person (clearly female) join our team at work. A lovely, well meaning person told us that because of how the new person identifies, 'whenever you speak to her or about her, use they or them'.

Maybe he'll feel like it tomorrow, or possibly this evening. Don't be a transphobic hater.

Ha, oh dear. This is how it's gone down in my workplace too. We have a place to write pronouns, but nobody ever remembers to say they/them, because the they/thems have been so obviously one sex or the other. Hilariously, it's often the people with pronouns in their own signatures who forget, while I, the terf, am sitting there thinking "oh dear, he (I mean they) is not going to like that".

Crazyworldmum · 17/04/2025 23:54

I see your point . I know a trans person , he/she them has been using female bathrooms in the office for 15 years without a single issue . I don’t care , nobody cares . This whole thing has been blowed out of proportion so badly it’s actually stupid ! I don’t actually care o will possibly share a bathroom with trans person once a year . They will be happy being who they are and I will be happy seeing them happy . I wish celebrities didn’t invest so much money on court cases and crap and hid under the feminism umbrella . Most women do not mind . So many other feminist issues needing addressing I can’t grasp what this tirade is all about

It's about things like prisons, rape shelters, sports. And not giving an open invite to cross-dressers to pop into the ladies loos at any time. HTH

In my job, I've encountered 4 - all girls. 3 have now detransitioned. Not sure about the 4th - she was still deciding whether to be a trans boy or non binary the last time I saw her.

oh we can tell. I notice men aren’t as good as spotting a bloke in a frock. I suspect women have evolved to be more attuned to sex differences because our lives literally depend on it.

I used to live in Rio de Janeiro. Sometimes I'd entertain myself of an evening by watching male tourists get bewitched by impossibly glamorous male 'women'. Women could tell, local men could tell, but visiting men really couldn't.

That was also a time when I had dozens of 'transwoman' friends. Back in London, I also knew several. Although many referred to themselves as women, especially the Brazilians, they didn't really think they were and weren't pissed off that I talked to them as men. That was some time ago, though, Brazil's gone fully TWAW now.

A lot of my friends with teenagers have one experimenting with 'gender' but, as they grow up, all but one has segued back through non-binary to their real sex. I noticed the holdout's now a "they" so there's hope for her yet!

We have a couple of noticeably trans-identifying people in my very small town.

I made a point on this on another thread.

It's not equality a lot of marginalised groups are after: it's domination.

It's all coming unravelled.

TimeForABreak4 · 17/04/2025 23:59

I don't either.

menopausalfart · 18/04/2025 00:00

When I see these discussions, I often wonder what people will think when we start adding tech to our bodies. Transhumanism is on the horizon, folks.

VioletSpeedwell · 18/04/2025 00:01

It’s about 1 in 200 people identify as trans

I don't believe that figure.

My neighbour....he was a complete loner in a block of 6 flats. He had a high position in the city council.

I found him in the communal garden dressed up in women's gear (very 60s).

That was 25 years ago. It shook me up but I had no idea really (naive). Was he transgender? What's the difference between transgender and perverted/fetished?

There’s a difference between a transvestite and someone who is transgender.

Babycakes39 · 18/04/2025 00:03

I know a couple of trans women. So just because they're a smaller minority people aren't allowed to support them or feel sad at the new rulings...just because you don't know any. What a stupid post.

andtheworldrollson · 18/04/2025 00:04

Hum
tbinking about it - I know 3 and DH knows none but has seen 2 transwomen ( one now in jail ) - guess it’s just a bit random

andtheworldrollson · 18/04/2025 00:04

There may be a difference between transvestite and transgender but those affected don’t often see that

Totallymessed · 18/04/2025 00:05

ToKittyornottoKitty · 17/04/2025 23:36

You no what, it’s actually not rocket science. A man occasionally wearing women’s clothing isn’t transgender… they still ‘identify’ as a man, they aren’t even claiming to be a woman. So they’re not trans or even claiming to be, can you understand? Whether you think trans women are women or men, this statement was just basic bloody common sense. If you can’t comprehend that then there isn’t much point in saying much more than google it. You can easily make intelligent arguments about trans women actually being men because you can’t change your DNA, but that’s not what’s happening on this thread, people are just being thick for the sake of it.

Exactly my point! The man dressing in women's clothes might not identify as a woman tonight, but she might do so tomorrow! It's so important for allies to avoid gatekeeping. I hope this explains better xx

Not according to Stonewall and other such bodies. Have you not heard of the "trans umbrella"? That's why they shortened it to trans. Look up also "gender euphoria" if you like. This ideology makes no distinction between the fetish and the dysphoria.

How do you know that you can always tell though because if you can't tell you'll never know. Maybe you only spotted 50%? It's like when people say you can always tell when someone has botox, you will never know all of the occasions you didn't spot it. Mumsnet is proof that you can't always tell, there has been more than one thread on the feminist board accusing women of being men or the women who have been accused of being men in bathroons.

I genuinely don't understand the confidence from some people that they would always be able to tell.

LoveItaly · 18/04/2025 00:05

My family knows four trans people, 3 are close friends and one is the child of a colleague. Interestingly, given that in the media we mainly hear about trans women, 3 of the 4 are trans men.

MysteriousUsername · 18/04/2025 00:06

I know 2 in my family (one immediate family, one partner of a family member) several friends kids, several friends of friends kids, a few in the volunteering I do.

They are all autistic. As am I.

oh, and men dressed as women do not pass. At all. Ever.
