To ask about shandals?

I love a shandal, mountain warehouse particularly.

BUT! Is there an actual sandal you find comfy for all day walking in the sun?

Which might look a bit better with a summer dress…

They're all dreadful, plus I'm outraged at the word shandal, so it's a no from me.

I agree, they're vile, open trainers . so they should be called trandals .

Theorderoftime · 11/04/2025 09:00

I bought my DS a pair of mountain sandals when he was 8. He took one look at them and said “I’m not wearing those, they’re worser than a dress” 😆

ThatsNotMyTeen · 11/04/2025 09:00

I didn’t know they were called Shandals. Therefore I didn’t realise i actually have a pair 😆 mine are Keen ones, they are ugly yet comfortable but I only wear them on UK beach holidays.

You are not alone! But we’re mostly alone. 😂

All this hate seems over the top! And the idea that you would only wear them for a full day's walking & therefore never with a dress is odd. I wear dresses on full day hikes & I wear walking sandals when out all day on holiday whether exploring a town or going on a coastal hike because I like my feet & don't want to ruin them for the sake of looking a tiny bit more coordinated.

I do try & find ones that aren't super ugly but surely any holiday/summer sandal needs to be practical. Unless you are literally just strolling to the pool side or heading out for dinner, sandals need to be comfy enough for a variety of things.

I quite like merrell for comfort - but not very pretty. I hav3 also got trespass kimbra - look good with a dress, and comfy enough to wear all day / walk to work and back in (half hour each way)

Well thanks for the clarification @LeaveTaking because I’ve read this whole thread thinking that you were very attached to these monstrosities!

Just googled it as I had not clue.

I'm on the fence OP, actually I quite like the north face ones! But I don't think they are my kind of thing.

How about something like these:

I have the DM sandals - gamechanger....so comfy!

OP have a nosy at FitFlop too. Pricey but some nice comfy stylish sandals on there

DJSteves · 11/04/2025 09:06

Yep I like my DM sandals

Trumpsgoneloco · 11/04/2025 09:06

Is it a bad time to confess my kids also wear them. … we’re very outdoorsy people.

better start saving for therapy!

Comfort - no idea

Look good with a summer dress - these wouldn’t look good with a bin bag. They are 100% practical wear

Would look good in a bin bag though 😆

NewPapaGuinea · 11/04/2025 09:08

I instantly thought it was where Sean Connery goes on holiday

aCatCalledFawkes · 11/04/2025 09:08

OMG, I'm 47 this year and the idea of wearing these makes me feel so old. I would rather wear a pair of decent trainers than these.

LeaveTaking · 11/04/2025 09:08

I can’t reply to everyone but some great suggestions, thank you.

Conqueeftador · 11/04/2025 09:11

I’m another lover of Keens. I’ve got a few pairs of their sandals, some of their walking boots, and their regular shoes. Most comfortable and hard wearing footwear I’ve ever had. I’m in my 50s though, and gave up giving a shit what anyone thought of how I look years ago (really wish I had had that epiphany in my 20s rather than my early 40s). Got my first pair of their sandals when I was in Australia for 6 months. Pretty much all I wore the whole time I was there they were so comfortable.

They have loads of styles/colours, and are worth the price imo as they are so hard wearing.

Dueanamechange2025 · 11/04/2025 09:12

Skechers sandals are super comfy and not too awful looking. Would be perfect for pottering round town, probably not for hiking.

butterpuffed · 11/04/2025 09:00

Trandal is possibly worse, they're all hideous anyway so I won't be wearing them.

AchillesAndPatroclus · 11/04/2025 09:13

fairislecable · 11/04/2025 08:39

I agree with TaggieO , Teva are really comfortable and hard wearing and this style is lighter and goes well with dresses:

https://www.teva-eu.com/en/gb/womens-tirra-strappy-leather-sandals/4177.html?dwvar_4177_color=CRBO

FWIW I have an earlier version of these, without the hiking-style soft back, the back is just the same flat brown leather as the rest of the sandal, and so they look more like normal shoes.

They are super comfy and supportive and I thought I’d get a lot of use out of them but… I never seem to choose them to wear them out with dresses/skirts.

I always look in the mirror and ditch them for a pair of normal, more attractive sandals.

henlake7 · 11/04/2025 09:13

I hadnt heard of shandals before but.......wow!
I actually kinda admire them, like when you see a really ugly dog. I didnt know a regular shoe could be that hideous!

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 11/04/2025 09:14

Functional shoes are very different from fashion shoes. If you need function then buy something that works. Then when you want to look pretty then buy something that looks pretty.
