To ask about shandals?

I love a shandal, mountain warehouse particularly.

BUT! Is there an actual sandal you find comfy for all day walking in the sun?

Which might look a bit better with a summer dress…

I wear shandal type shoes if I am abroad in a warm place but need to do plenty of walking. I find them very comfortable and practical. They are trainers without the leather panels.

I do have a different pair of sandals when I want something better looking.

I agree with TaggieO , Teva are really comfortable and hard wearing and this style is lighter and goes well with dresses:

Leave Talking I’m nearly 50 and would not be seen dead in those, they are are frump central. I can’t do heels or strapped shoes. Some of the other styles the previous poster showed were a lot more flattering from the heavily feet website I liked the chunky silver strapped one strap. I’d wear those and I have bunions to hide. You can have comfort and style.

BoobsOnTheMoon · 11/04/2025 08:39

I flipping love my Keens - have you checked those out?

TequilaAndPickles · 11/04/2025 08:41

They're all dreadful, plus I'm outraged at the word shandal, so it's a no from me.

I promise you. These do not go with dresses.

Emanresuunknown · 11/04/2025 08:42

I'm sorry but anywhere you are considering wearing a summer dress, you don't need to wear awful frumpy walking sandals.

Because that's what they are - walking sandals, fine if you are hiking in summer wearing shorts and a shirt.

But anywhere you might choose to wear a summer dress you obviously aren't doing loads of walking, you can wear normal shoes that would go with a dress?

Surely nobody would put on a nice cotton summer dress to go and potter the shops or something, and put these chunky hiking sandals with it? No need?! It almost feels like a weird sort of virtue signalling like 'oh but I am outdoorsy!!!'

madamegazelle1 · 11/04/2025 08:44

Hotter Tourist might work for you- very comfy!

DearBee · 11/04/2025 08:45

Pikolinos are great.

I've been wearing them since my kids were little and we are pretty outdoorsy too. They have that geeky look but I think they're cool too. They've taken me on many city breaks with serious pavement pounding. Go larger on your normal size so you have a little room.

I feel we need some kind of shandal society. They are not getting much love.

I would totally wear the lace up leather ones with the cut outs in bright colours. They are eccentric and fashion forward in my opinion. But I would rather die than wear the canvas velcro strappy things that backpackers wear, nothing against backpackers

amele · 11/04/2025 08:51

I wasn’t going to search what a shandal is but these comments I had to!! Omggg op they are awful, I’m sure I’ve seen my uncle in his late 50s wear something like that.
the bin bag comment from someone took me out! Haha

LeaveTaking · 11/04/2025 08:51

Lots of talk about no toes, just for clarity these are what I wear. Or was wearing.

Yes! That’s very similar to what I have been wearing but they seem to be getting some hate on here!

Well I'm disappointed. By the reactions on here I was expecting something horrific. But they're basically like walking sandals? Not sure how they're so much worse than trainers? And some of the suggestions seem similarly practical rather than stylish.
I mean, you wouldn't wear them with a nice dress to an event or a night out but I can see why you'd wear them with shorts and a t shirt.

IndigoDynamo · 11/04/2025 08:53

Op that's a walking or hiking sandal... Keens, Merrells and Tevas are great.

Meh, who cares? It's not like you're forcing anyone who hates them to wear the shoes that offend them so much. I'm sure we'd have plenty to ridicule if we got to pick over their wardrobes!

Aparecium · 11/04/2025 08:55

I have a pair of shandals. I've had several over the years. The only time they come out of the wardrobe is for scrambling on rocky beaches or in rivers. They are hideous to walk far in. Everything chafes. Grit and pebbles get inside and aren't easy to knock out without taking the shoes off.

The sandals I wear to walk all day in are Birkenstocks. TBH I don't get the love for the Arizona model, but Mayari and Taormina are beautiful and comfortable.

If you are used to wearing Birkenstocks you can just step in and go. If not, you'll need to get your feet used to them by wearing them for increasing periods over a week or two.

LeaveTaking · 11/04/2025 08:56

Ok everybody, turns out I am wearing walking sandals and not shandals.

I thought that was their name!

But thanks to everyone for the suggestions!

Thought it was a typo! I have some but not worn them yet. I usually wear Crocs on the beach.

reelcat · 11/04/2025 08:58

I have now found a shoe that is on par with the ugliness of crocs and makes me want to throw up in my mouth. Not what I needed at breakfast time!

What do you mean by all day walking in the sun? Just round a city or pottering about with everyday life shops/walking dog/dentist? Or up hills and over streams?

I have monstrous walking sandals that I wear if I’m walking the dog for a few hours in the forest or at the beach but if if I was going to Edinburgh for the day for example I’d just wear my ordinary sandals. To me ordinary sandals are leather decent quality sandals.

ThatsNotMyTeen · 11/04/2025 09:00

I didn’t know they were called Shandals. Therefore I didn’t realise i actually have a pair 😆 mine are Keen ones, they are ugly yet comfortable but I only wear them on UK beach holidays.
