To ask about shandals?

I love a shandal, mountain warehouse particularly.

BUT! Is there an actual sandal you find comfy for all day walking in the sun?

Which might look a bit better with a summer dress…

I will be absolutely flamed here but Hotter have a good range of well-made, comfortable sandals that last for years. Not all their designs look like something your granny would turn her nose up at. I think their Tourist sandals will fit the bill for you. I like and wear their Sol sandals but, if you are sporty/outdoorsy, they are probably not strong enough.

I thought I needed Specsavers when I saw the prices, £565 couldn't be right, could it??? Remind me of when my late mother had really bad bunions, many years ago, and Dad cut her shoes to make her comfortable!

There was some special edition ones for £1500 ...

Mind you, after I stared at them in fascinated horror for about five minutes I became obsessed, and wanted some. How fortunate that I don't have £600 or so to spend on footwear.

Flossy1985 · 13/04/2025 06:36

Best sandals I have are my dr martens mine are 5yr old and still look brand new. Give them a try lots of colours and styles plus go with anything!!! 😁

CheshireDing · 13/04/2025 06:59

I too thought it was a typo , googled it and it's a company in Wales. They are very ugly though 🤣

Sillysoggysheep · 13/04/2025 09:02

I have Ecco Off-road sandals. They're expensive at £130 but shop around on eBay for bargains. They look good with shorts, dresses and skirts and can be worn comfortably without socks.

CleaningAngel · 13/04/2025 09:07

I thought this was a typo so googled them...its a no from me they're foul, and expensive. Think the need to be dedicated to the bad fashion ideas of history together with the 80s shell suit!!

They are the fugliest shoes ever. I’m in my 60s and would not be seen dead in them

BBW53 · 13/04/2025 10:08

Merrell do really nice sandals that are comfortable enough to walk in all day

They're all dreadful, plus I'm outraged at the word shandal, so it's a no from me.

Exactly, there seems to be a trend recently of creating portmanteaus for things which already have a name.

Jorts is another one that irks me. They're denim shorts FFS.

Coco1379 · 13/04/2025 10:15

Hotter do some comfy sandals now - they used to look ’obviously Hotter’ but my daughter has started buying them so guess they cannot be too old ladyish

NoisySwan · 13/04/2025 11:54

shackets, and now shandals. The fashion world never fails to excite me!

AuntieAgnesPoodle · 13/04/2025 11:59

ClearPinkPlum · 11/04/2025 13:07

Had a look at these, even the people who buy them say things like "Usually this kind of sandal has as much style as a perm" and complain that they could look a bit more um, normal.

I am enjoying all the horror and revulsion expressed for something practical that's not going to hurt you when you put it on your feet. It's very entertaining

Shouldn't that be Dorts?

dudsville · 13/04/2025 12:04

I didn't know this product had a name. My DH wore a pair for a few summers. I was never a fan, but his body, his choice. I was glad when he discovered a fault in the design - the multiple little splits in the shoe lets in lots of irritating bits and pieces - and finally stopped wearing them.

Backagainformorepunishment · 11/04/2025 07:42

I'd never even heard of a shandal: I thought it was a typo.

Having googled them I see they are a summer version of trainers. And pretty ugly looking.

I can't stand this fashion for wearing trainers with dresses so even if they are comfortable they would be a total non starter for me.

Edited

I'd not heard of them either, I thought it must be a posting by Sean Connery.

sassyclassyandsmartassy · 13/04/2025 17:36

Never heard of shandies so this fascinated me. Well OP, it could be worse, you could be wearing Crocs, but it’s only marginally better! Sorry, but, not for me either. Have a look at Sketchers, there are some good options and they are comfy.

steff13 · 13/04/2025 17:43

Crocs makes sandals and they're very comfortable and they have a lot of different styles and they look cute with dresses. At least some of them do.

Foreheadthing · 13/04/2025 23:41

Haven't read the full thread but came on to say Sketchers do some amazingly all day comfortable sandals that also look nice with summer dresses. I have several pairs and they get worn daily on holiday and also on summer walks! I'd post the style I get but I'm pretty sure all their styles would be just as comfortable.

These look like Ronald McDonald's shoes, with the toes missing.

Emanresuunknown · 11/04/2025 08:42

I'm sorry but anywhere you are considering wearing a summer dress, you don't need to wear awful frumpy walking sandals.

Because that's what they are - walking sandals, fine if you are hiking in summer wearing shorts and a shirt.

But anywhere you might choose to wear a summer dress you obviously aren't doing loads of walking, you can wear normal shoes that would go with a dress?

Surely nobody would put on a nice cotton summer dress to go and potter the shops or something, and put these chunky hiking sandals with it? No need?! It almost feels like a weird sort of virtue signalling like 'oh but I am outdoorsy!!!'

If only someone would explain to the Berbers and other hot country dwellers, that they've been doing it wrong for centuries. They need to get out of their robes (which are just dresses) and put denim shorts and a t shirt on. You don't feel cooler because you have more flesh on show, quite the opposite. Likewise you don't need part of your foot exposed. Many of us do put on summer dresses and walk all day. I never wear sandals, or stupid dolly shoes, though. Women's footwear, traditionally wasn't designed for practicality.

CarlyCoffee · 14/04/2025 00:46

they are hideous but they still aren’t worse than crocs. I can’t believe people (including toddlers) wear crocs.

CarlyCoffee · 14/04/2025 00:46

Also Birkenstocks are frumpy as fuck.

FrootScoot · 14/04/2025 07:47

I don’t see the point of them, they are both ugly and impractical IMO.
My walking loving parents and in laws scoff at me and DH in the summer for wearing walking boots. However we are merrily walking while they are stopping every ten seconds picking bits out of their sandals, putting socks on with the sandals to stop bits going in them or looking for places to clean their filthy feet at the end of the walk.
