To ask about shandals?

I love a shandal, mountain warehouse particularly.

BUT! Is there an actual sandal you find comfy for all day walking in the sun?

Which might look a bit better with a summer dress…

Well, no, I don't like them personally, but I'm still astounded that people actually wear crocs outside of their garden. 15 years ago that was literally a huge style no-no. So who knows, maybe in 15 years time we'll all be cutting about in our shandals. 😂

gattocattivo · 11/04/2025 10:10

My dad loves shandals….

ShowOfHands · 11/04/2025 10:11

I'd never heard of shandals either but Google tells me they're what I wear all summer.

I wear Teva sandals but discontinued ones that look a lot like the Teva Dozer. My first pair lasted a decade and I wore them hiking and trekking, washed them frequently and they were indestructible. I trawl eBay for them regularly as finding a replacement pair was difficult and they really are magical.

(I don't give a shiny shite about people saying they wouldn't be seen dead in them. They suit my lifestyle.)

BoarBrush · 11/04/2025 10:12

Skecher go walk sandals are the king of all sandals. Wear them 14+ hours.

Blarn · 11/04/2025 10:12

I have to admit, in the Summer I wear hiking boots when going for long walks. I've seen those hiking sandals but can't bring myself to wear them so just suffer with very warm feet and sweaty ankles.

I did once walk about 7 miles on a coastal path in some hard, completely flat, leather fisherman's sandals from Asos that were about £25. They were incredibly comfortable, no rubbing and the sole gripped even the most worn down rock but I think that was a complete fluke!

I instantly thought it was where Sean Connery goes on holiday

Yes, he was known for wearing Shandals in the Sheychelles 😂

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 11/04/2025 10:18

@LeaveTaking looking at those hideous things, are you sure you even own a dress??? really unpretty things!! hate crocs but even those are better than your ugly choice!!

I got these as I don’t want to always wear sneakers or trainers.
They’re very comfortable , however I have very narrow feet so maybe if your feet are wider they won’t fit as well ?
I got these as I have difficulty getting sandals and tan leather looks good with most of my clothes .
I also have some Skechers sandals which look a bit more sporty but because the straps are a bit stretchy they do eventually need to be replaced as my feet start slipping 😭

Andre 44-550 are eye-catching platform wedged sandals from Gabor. The leather strap that wraps around the ankle is decorated with a resin buckle and simply attaches with Velcro. The leather or nubuck leather straps hold the feet in place on Gabor&rsquo...

The flowery dress, trainers and denim jacket combo are crimes against women. If you need to walk outdoors wear trousers or shorts and walking sandals. Any sandal with a blackstrap are good enough for walking.

A goggle shows me some very different things.

The link to the ‘original shandal’ is a lace up shoe with the front bit cut out and leather round the big toe - errr they’re a no from me. But carry on OP!

The shopping bit shows normal walking sandals - which are really comfortable. I live in my leather Merrell ones in the heat. Brilliant for packing light as they work with dresses, shorts, linens and more. Walked around all day in the sun in them for years.

Interesting that closed toe walking sandals have a new name. I've rarely been able to wear them because I have a high instep and the shape doesn't work. I think a decent pair of practical flat, walking type sandals is a must. I don't think they are ugly, just sensible

ThinWomansBrain · 11/04/2025 10:20

I recently purchased some Convers Mary Jane's - really comfortable without being as hot or clumpy as trainers,
Still wearing trousers, but think they'll be fine with dresses

@LeaveTaking Mumsnet might be relieved to hear my shandals actually snapped. well all I can say to this is thank the bloody lord!!

FoxedByACat · 11/04/2025 10:22

I have some Keen shandals which I love - I just thought they were trekking sandals though. Never heard of shandals before.

Lots of talk about no toes, just for clarity these are what I wear. Or was wearing.

Oh.

I think I’ve found a gateway sandal to help me move from shandals. 😁

I imagine you wear them with walking trousers and a fleece with a wolf on it.

JudgeJ · 11/04/2025 10:25

IndigoDynamo · 11/04/2025 08:54

Or do you mean an actual Shandal?
https://www.shandals.co.uk/shop-als-collection

I thought I needed Specsavers when I saw the prices, £565 couldn't be right, could it??? Remind me of when my late mother had really bad bunions, many years ago, and Dad cut her shoes to make her comfortable!

DressOrSkirt · 11/04/2025 10:26

I don't know if they've been mentioned but I find my Teva Hurricane's comfy to wear all day including hiking.Teva Hurricane Sandals

I've just bought a new denim jacket, apparently they're back in! 😁

unfortunately for my mother inlaw she has to for her feet - Sometimes health issues constraint what you wear

Not in your coffin though! Surely you could wear high heeled leopard print winklepickers in there! Why would you settle for a shandel at that point.

Langdale3 · 11/04/2025 10:27

My kids had these for the beach when they were little! I’d never thought of getting myself a pair but I need to replace my knackered beach shoes and am now tempted….

ACynicalDad · 11/04/2025 10:28

I want a shandal as much as I want a shart.

Talipesmum · 11/04/2025 10:28

Completely confused why people are saying a dress is not suitable for walking around all day in a reasonably active way? Sure, not for climbing or clambering, but spending all day walking around on anywhere from footpaths to pavements? Dresses are comfy and for some, a lot more flattering and cooler to wear than shorts or trousers. And there’s no way I’m spending the whole day on my feet and wearing something more designed to look good than be comfortable. My tolerance for uncomfortable footwear slipped away in mid 20’s, after a few holidays slightly spoiled by blisters etc. I have got the worlds least tolerant feet, though, super wide and not at all pretty.

sparrowflewdown · 11/04/2025 10:29

I like shadals! I haven't got any but they can look cool.
