Husband told the bride her dress was beautiful

My husband told the bride her dress was beautiful, but when i showed him my dress idea, which was very similar, he said he didn't like it. He claims he doesn’t recall her dress being similar. Does it appear he finds the bride attractive not the dress?

Is the bride much more attractive than you OP?

Gymmum82 · 03/04/2025 11:02

Christ I’ve been to weddings where the dress has been absolutely hideous, sometimes I’ve wondered if the bridesmaids hate their friend because I’d never let mine look like that on their wedding day. I’ve still said you look beautiful. Your dress is stunning. Because that’s what you say

Peppermint tea please, no milk or sugar and you can leave the bag in.

Omg has anyone ever made a peppermint tea with milk and sugar?!? The horror

godmum56 · 03/04/2025 11:03

I have said the same to a bride whose dress I thought was awful and I would have been more truthful to a close friend....but I am neither male nor gay.

I prefer not to talk about it but yes, it HAS happened
It was back in the olden days when herbal teas were mostly drunk by people from forrin though.

Peppermint check
Earl grey check

I’ll see if there’s any biscuits in

NeverDropYourMooncup · 03/04/2025 11:10

If he did mean the Bride and not the dress, it was probably due to her not having a right cob on at the time.

She probably wasn't glaring at him in case he dared look in the general direction of a bridesmaid, either.

Flatulence · 03/04/2025 11:11

You're being unreasonable.

Not only is it the 'done thing' to tell a bride she looks beautiful, it's perfectly possible (and in fact happens all the time) that one person can look amazing in a dress but another looks dreadful.

Someone who is 45, 5ft nothing and a size 12 with a big bust and big hips is not going to suit the same outfit as a 20 year old who's 6ft tall, also a size 12, but without much in the way of curves.

Sounds like your fiance is polite but also honest with you - which is positive.

MightAsWellBeGretel · 03/04/2025 11:12

Yeah, because how do you think 'congratulations! Don't think much of your dress, though.' would go down?

Honestly are so many people in the wild getting more touchy and completely self obsessed at the expense of common sense and courtesy these days, or is it just on here?!

They won’t be back. Too busy fighting with the imaginary husband over an imaginary dress and imaginary bride.

Yep. I believe about 5% of threads on here now

Maybe he should have told her he didn't like it - bet that'd have gone down like a sack of spuds 😁
You tell the bride if they ask that they look good, not crap
Also, what are you showing your DH your dress idea for? Everyone knows you don't let him see your dress until the day, bad luck and all that 😬

ZookeeperSE · 03/04/2025 11:15

They're already shagging. It's obvious.
🙄

Serpentstooth · 03/04/2025 11:15

Anyone tried Lady Grey tea? Won't replace the original but I quite like it.

sciaticafanatica · 03/04/2025 11:18

I’ve been to numerous weddings and the brides choice of dress , is not my taste.
i still always tell the their dress is beautiful.
its just standard politeness at a wedding

Dotjones · 03/04/2025 11:21

Whether he finds the bride attractive or not can't really be determined by this incident. It's polite to tell a bride her dress is beautiful. The only people who should offer a neutral or negative opinion are possibly her closest friends who she is actively seeking advice from when choosing a dress.

Stealthmodemama · 03/04/2025 11:22

These are the thoughts that ran through my head in order:

1- it's something you say to brides even if it is not true

2 - Some clothes suit some body shapes better than others - one dress is awesome on one body - not on another

3- how long ago - fashions change

4- this woman is insecure that her partner does not love her - shes either a - insecure - b- has low self esteem - c - needs to listen to her gut cos the guy is a wrongun

The only person who can know - is you

AnneLovesGilbert · 03/04/2025 11:26

Is he her dad? Her brother? Her lover? I have to know!

Yes, it's lovely isn't it? Really like it at the end of the day.

Kylie83 · 03/04/2025 11:27

Are you the same poster that thought your husband might like the cashier because he smiled at her? Sounds rather familiar.

UpMyself · 03/04/2025 11:29

What dress idea did you have? Are you planning on wearing a wedding dress even though you have a husband already?

Oh I think it's grim.

It makes me think of ladyboys, too, which is off-putting.

MrsSunshine2b · 03/04/2025 11:30

Maybe he was just being polite because it's what you say to a bride.

Maybe that style suited her but doesn't suit you.
