Hogging the hot tub

Twobroschillininahottub · 04/03/2025 21:04

I'm a member of a spa local to me and go regularly to swim. Always relax in the jacuzzi/hot tub for a bit afterwards. I've never seen the like today- 2 men were in the hot tub for, I shit you not, an hour and a half. They were in there while I swam lengths for over an hour. No sign of them getting out and I saw other swimmers looking, clearly waiting for them to shift so they could have a turn. After over an hour of swimming I'm not caring, I wanted a rest so I got in (room for 6 people).

They stayed in there for another half hour!

AIBU that this is just not on and you move on to let people have a shot of the hot tub? There are plenty of other facilities like sauna and so on that they could have moved on to.

OMG so even their conversation wasn't right for you?

Case in point about posters being contrary.

I'm not looking to change the channel and watch another conversation for my entertainment. Amazingly all the women who use the hot tub manage to converse in a way that you hardly hear them over the bubbles. They also get out within half an hour.

These eejits were yapping like they were in a rowdy pub and stayed in there for an. hour. and. a. half.

You were in the bloody pool for as long as they were in the bloody hot tub! How is that perfectly fine but what they did was rude? You’re mad. Certifiable.

Most people use the pool for an hour or more. You need to in order to get a decent amount of lengths in.

Maybe you've never seen one before, they're quite a bit bigger than a hot tub.

They’ve done absolutely nothing nothing wrong

Oh it's definitely not up there with murder or anything.

It's just bloody rude.

mrsm43s · 04/03/2025 22:28

It's only rude to stay for a long time in the hot tub if its full to capacity, and people are queuing to get in. Otherwise It's perfectly fine to stay in it as long as you want. Personally I wouldn't want to stay in it for hours on end, but as long as there's still spaces available, it's not rude at all.

It's somewhat rude and entitled to think that other people should get out of a shared facility they are enjoying the use of because you want/prefer exclusive use of it.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 04/03/2025 22:29

Apart from you did other people get in with them at any point? If I was in a hot tub meant for 6 with only one other friend it wouldn’t occur to me to get out until the other spaces started to fill out. Once 4 or 5 people were in if I’d been in the longest I’d get out, but if I was in a hot tub with empty seats and nobody else joined I’d assume no one else wanted to use it and that I was therefore free to stay in.

Twobroschillininahottub · 04/03/2025 21:18

It seems very clean. The crazy thing is there is a much bigger hot tub like 6 times the size elsewhere in the spa, this one is just next to the pool. I got in just because I couldn't believe the cheek of them staying in so long.

It doesn't matter, surely? They weren't preventing anyone else getting in?

Yes just after I got in another woman also got in. They were still in another half hour after that.

Why not build a pool while you're having your bathroom refurbished? Then you won't have to wait for a bath. Unless of course your DH or DCs are in it...

What would queuing in a spa look like? It's not Disneyland.

People don't stay in for an hour and a half because they politely assume that others will want in at some point and that if you want to spend that long in a hot tub you need one in your garden.

Maybe one of them has a musculoskeletal problem that is eased significantly with the hot water and jets. Maybe they were old friends catching up and decided to stay in longer than usual seeing as no one else was getting in. The fact that you care says far more about you than them 🤷‍♀️

I think it's only on Mumsnet, where people enjoy being contrary, that anyone would say sitting in a busy spa hot tub for an hour and a half isn't rude.

But it wasn't a busy hot tub, 2/3rds of the spaces were empty! Had it have been full, it would have been rude, but it wasn't, so not remotely rude. How are you not getting this?

You got out, but said they were still in it 30 mins later...
So, presumably you checked the tub or you wouldn't know

Twobroschillininahottub · 04/03/2025 22:38

@mrsm43s

"Busy spa hot tub" meaning a hot tub in a busy spa

The spa was not quiet. If it was absolutely dead, fair enough. But the amount of people there would indicate it's not polite to park up in the hot tub for an hour and a half.

How are you not getting this?

I went to Trump Turnberry for a spa day a couple of years ago. Hot tub hogged by very trumpy men, exactly whom you'd expect to see in that place. Not sure why we went tbh! Easy to say 'assert yourself and get in', but what if you don't want to sit with the fuckers?! I could hear their booming voices from the pool which was bad enough!

How awful, having to share the space with other customers

Twobroschillininahottub · 04/03/2025 22:41

They weren't there 30 minutes after I got out.

I got in and they'd been in for over an hour already at that point. Then I was in with another woman for a good 20 minutes and they were still in.

I really don't understand the issue here. There were 2 people in a 6 person tub. Plenty of room for others. If people were choosing not to get in that's their issue. And the 2 people that were in there may have considered getting out to let others in had therenot been plenty of seats available that were not being used.

At my gym you just get in. People stay in there chatting for ages sometimes and others nip in and out and everything in between. Literally no one stands there waiting for it to be completely free. They'd be waiting there all day otherwise!

Twobroschillininahottub · 04/03/2025 22:42

Some customers are more pleasant than others to share space with. The considerate ones. Thankfully that's been everyone I've encountered until these two.

How are you not getting this?

Because regardless of the number of people at the spa facility, there were still FOUR FREE SPACES in the hot tub, so no need for the two people in the hot tub to get out. Its a space designed to be shared by six, not something that rude, entitled people should be expecting/demanding exclusive use of.

Twobroschillininahottub · 04/03/2025 22:43

Oh, that's the real issue! If it were 2 women discussing world politics would that be acceptable.
Clearly, NQOCD

Hi this post has been up for 30 mins now so could you please request it be deleted to make room for more people to post as you are hogging the feed. Other people want to make posts too. It's a shared forum.

This is a very good point. This thread has now been up for almost 2 hours despite the OP being asked to make at for other threads over an hour ago. The cheek of it!
